I still think one day, several of his past 'friends' are really going to hammer him hard, and the details will be hilarious.

Oh yeah, eventually the books will come. Either Prince will pass on, or someone will finally stand up to his lawyers.

Uh, she is such a hater!

Why is she still talking about this?

Why doesn't she just move on with her life?

If she is so ungrateful foir what Prince did for her, why did she record his songs?

If she's supposed to be so religious now, why hasn't she forgiven him?

She must still think about him, since its been almost 30 years and she's still talking about him!

Seems like Prince was just kind to all of the wrong people. He gave them careers and this is how they thank him?

Did I cover all of the idolworshippers' general comments?

Here's the answe key:

1. Not really. She never said she was mad about any of it.

2. Because she was asked.

3. Seems like she has since she is into the church rather than doing Vanity 6 reunion tours.

4. She never said she hasn't forgiven Prince for anything. In church, they call it testifying, or telling the truth about your life.

5. Again, she was asked - just like most of his former associates are, right before they are criticized for talking about him, which is stupid.

6. Seems like he couldn't have branched out without them, either. YOu can't claim production credits without someone to produce. He'd look pretty silly singing a song called Nasty Girl.

Seems like all was not as peachy in the purple kingdom as it appeared to be.

[Edited 5/26/13 6:12am]

Where have you been? Vanity was the first person from the Purple Kingdom to express are dissatisfaction 30 years ago however, she always leaves out the fact that she did not write anything, play one instrument and had a rep for not working very hard (drugs) . Even Alan Leeds described her as being very street and unhappy. We all know P is not saint or a bag of candy to be around. She is not saying anything new or interesting.

[Edited 5/29/13 10:12am]

Was SHE the first, or Jam & Lewis???

Hmmmmmmm????

I just recently read something about Prince that was really outrageous, but of course it has since been removed from the site. Anyway, I don't know what we need to know about him that we didn't "learn" from his songs and his quasi-autographical film debut. But, I'm not gonna lie. If I'm still alive when these books come out, I will probably be one of the first hundred to read them. confused

Yes, we did know that she was not happy with her financial situation. She did not give a dollar figure but she made mention that she was not happy with her pay while in Vanity Six. In addtion, she has talked about P running around on her. As far as P being a dick for not paying her enougth we would have to know what his expenses were back then and you have to take Vanity's contribution into consideration. After all he did just replace her with Appollinia and keep it moving.

We knew about her unhappiness with the financial situation and Prince being a whore, but we didn't know the exact dollar amounts. That detail is new. The tiny amount she was being paid by Prince is absurd. $250 a week which was not increased for going on tour, and then the $5000 offer for Purple Rain? Clearly the rest of hollywood viewed her as worth more than that as she made $300,000 for The Last Dragon. Prince wanted to keep Vanity (and the rest of his associates/proteges) beneath him by not paying them. Unfortunate associates like Jill Jones didn't have other options so they stuck around and put up with his BS but luckily for Vanity she did and I'm sure Prince was surprised/pissed about it.

I guess this is why she said she left the group because Motown Records offerred her more money. It sounds like Prince was pretty much paying her slave wages for her to move to Motown, where she recorded good records that they barely promoted.

Vanity is my all time favorite Prince woman that he christened. She was the most beautiful sexiest woman that Eye had ever seen at the time. She just oozed charisma....A documentary is well over due of her. Eye would love 2 c a "Unsung" Of her..Her energy is magnetic & hypnotizing still...Like someone else said she set the bar on what a Prince woman exuded.. She was a trailblazer & open the doors 4 Madonna coming out in garter belts & fishnet stockings...

She was fine ok... biggrin

Prince was "cheap" with all of his proteges. The guys in The Time were being paid $200 a week even though they had hit records and got alot of great reviews for their performances.I can imagine that all of the others (The Family,Mazarati, etc) probably weren't making alot of money, either. What's really sad is that,he wouldn't allow them to pursue other opportunites that would have brought in money for them.Morris Day was offered the chance to write and sing a song/duet with Evelyn Champagne King, but Prince refused to let him do it.I can certainly see why many of these people left.

None of them still wouldn't have had the careers they had if Prince didn't christened them into the universe. They learned from the best. They still can't get him out of their minds today after over thirty years even Vanity still talks about him..Wendy & Lisa even accepted an email song from Prince 2 add to it. They would come back to him in a heartbeat..

Careers, be damn....unless you're into the whole "starving artist" thing.

Prince probably figured that he didn't need to pay them properly, because he was doing all of the work. Didn't he basically give his proteges prerecorded songs (vocals and all) and all they had to do was follow the bouncing ball. Now, if you are serious about your craft, how could you consider that an honor? Why would you want to go back and work with someone who obviously only has you there, because Warner wouldn't allow him to do it all under the name Prince.

Honestly, imo, working for Prince only works when you are Prince.

all this happened 30 years ago so it doesn't matter now anyway. Its just something interesting to read in a book. They all signed the contracts and knew how much money they would be making. Thats why Alexander was fired because he wouldn't go for it. I think Morris got paid more because he was in the studio with Prince doing the Time albums

Denise met and was with Prince before he became so huge so I'm inclined to believe she never had a non-disclosure agreement lol People forget that 20 years ago she was offered a lot of money to release a tell-all book about her life, including her time with Prince and only changed her mind because she realized it went against her new-found beliefs. They wouldn't have offered her millions for her story if it didn't have something damaging about Prince in it. I'm sure after Purple Rain, Prince had more leverage with future associates but in this case I think he just got lucky that Denise hasn't spilled a lot of tea to the public lol I really hope that "in-the-works" documentary does show up as I'm sure we'll learn something more about her point of view when she was working with and dating Prince.

There will probably be no tell all book about Prince and his shenanigans until he's dead and gone, and the way he lives his life, that probably won't be happening any time soon. Let's see, he's 55 now. He doesn't smoke, drink or do drugs. He's a vegetarian and gets plenty of exercise doing concerts Hell, barring any accidents or diseases, bro man could live another 40-50 years. Uniless there are expiration dates for those confidentiality agreements, don't hold your breath. And even then, some might be reluctant to speak out in fear of retaliation. Some might still hold hopes of playing with him again, and if they spilled any negative beans, their asses are done.

I tend to believe Prince didn't want to pay Vanity, but I don't understand how he could call the shots on how much each cast member received. Wouldn't the producers of the film make that decision? Even Prince himself might not have received a whole bunch of money initially unless he had a contract share of the net profits. He really didn't start making big money until the release of PR correct?

Thank you. The voice of reason. Even Lisa said that no one had good deals back then even P deal with WB prior to Purple Rain was not that good. All of the protegees from the beginning of P's carreer think they were ripped off when the money was not as much as they think.
