Vanity vs. Apollonia $ir nasstee is back N the place on Prince.org,Rep'n that Rude Boy, sportn that Purple, old school Prince era 1979-1989 got an old school question 4 dat azz . Who had/has the most talent/sexxxy'R and beauty-wise 4 their HeyDay, in thier prime Vanity or Apollonia?
Looks beauty and all around body I would have 2 give it 2 Apollonia, she has curves , when she purified herself aka "Got Bucky Naked" (In Bernie Mack voice) in the waters Lake Minnetonka that did it 4 me, there was a new Sheriff in Town after that scene.
Talent, hands down Vanity she could sing somewhat circa Nasty Girl and Under The Influence. Her acting was at best mediocre but she was in more than a few movies I am sure it was more looks than acting chops, yet she did her thang over-all . Yes she was very sexxxy/beautful as well .
Both women can still get "the Bizness" 2 this day, both were sexxxy, beautful and talented in their own unique way. And just str8 up fine as hell!!!
Note: "The Bizness" is a registered trademark of Nasstee Groove Production, so Prince don't try 2 use what's mine....buddy. Lol

I say the same, it's almost like she is the mold that all the others have to come close to * Vanity is naturally just beautiful Very sensual and sexual

There is a fire to Vanity that no other Prince girl has, not even my personal favorite -Mayte. If she could have sang like Jill she'd be raking in the money to this day. Prince seemed like just a gig to Apollonia, she didn't seemed as smitten by him as most other associates. There came a time when the risk of remaining tight in the bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom. Anais Nin.

There was a certain something that Vanity had that wasn't present in any of Prince's other flings. And, I agree that Prince's "type" seems to be inspired by Vanity. Apollonia is pretty, but wasn't she casted in the eleventh-hour to play Vanity (role), solely because she resembled her. Don't get me wrong, but isn't comparing Vanity to Apollonia the equivalent to comparing Dorothy Dandridge to Halle Berry or Selena to Jennifer Lopez? In all of the above, I'm going to go with the originals!!!

THIS is another reason why I dig on Apollonia. She seemed a bit more level headed and not deluded by the mythology surrounding Prince. While many people hate on her because she wasn't really a musician, I honestly don't see Vanity's vocals really being super dynamic either. I guess her dancing might have been better? But you wouldn't know it watching The Last Dragon.
I get she might have been the more "charasmatic" one, but I think perhaps we can attribute at least some of that to the amount of blow she was doing.
I'll admit I'm biased. I think Apples was my first female crush. But there are a few other reasons I can articulate why I have and still do prefer Apple's body of work. "I mean I always figured you were a trip at times, but now I'm beginning to believe you're a freaking vacation." -2elijah

I don't think Vanity was deluded... either. She was just a 'real' person in his life Apollonia was just an actor like the people that played the Kids parents. * In that respect they can't be compared, I think. * Apollonia will go on years later and 'benefit' from being in Purple Rain, her whole 'popularity' is only connected to Purple Rain. She will constantly call him a tyrant though. * Vanity was the real deal.

Can a brotha have a preferance? Vanity snapped out of it. Apollonia didn't drink the Kool-Aid in the first place. Even if she was "just an actor," that doesn't diminish her work or my appreciation for her. She was a singer before Prince. She may not have had the chops that the others would have appreciated, but again, I don't listen to Vanity because her "crooning" does anything for me either. To be fair, I do listen to Nasty Girl more than Sex Shooter, but that's more because I just prefer the tracks production. I liked the song before I knew who vanity was. Insert and other female vocal over it, I'm pretty sure I'd still probably like it. And let's not get into acting chops * Sure, in that respect they can't be compared, but again, I don't think that Vanity's involvement in Prince's personal life makes her any more... I guess attractive with regards to my preference to her. * If the remark about Apollonia was to diminish her, the same can be said of Vanity. Her whole break was through connection of Prince, and like Apollonia (I guess), she will constantly call him a tyrant. So that observation is non-unique to Apollonia. * And as far as her being the "real deal." :: shrugs :: I don't know what that's really supposed to mean, or if that's supposed to persuade me for my preferance over Apollonia? I don't think being a badass for the sake of being a badass is inherently something that is desirable. Was she badass? Was she nasty? Maybe? Were these traits a enhanced or a result of drug usage? I'm sure even Minister Denise Matthews would say so. Are these types of traits desirable for me? Probably not. And I'm ok with that. And to be fair: You have your reasons for prefering her. That's Kool and the Gang. I have admitted to my prejudices with regards to why I like Apollonia (first female crush and all). I don't think subjective taste makes for a good "vs." That's why I more think I'd prefer to approach these things by saying why I prefer, rather than why you/or anybody is wrong for their preference, even if I do fail at that sometimes. Of course U can have a preference * But we're on a discussion board, come on, expect that people want some fun back n forth 'discussion' lol I'm not fighting with you, it really isn't that serious, * Apollonia did good for the place she came in as far as the movie was concerned. I did like her in the movie. But the live shows were not. * Have you heard the V6 version of Sexy Shooter? which one do u like if you did? * I mean I think one of the things that made it work and Prince and other said similar, was that soooo many people in the movie where 'real life' people in Prince's life, that's what I sorta meant by 'real deal' * I'm not trying to persuade anyone to love either, we are just talking about these 2 'characters' in that place in Erotic City. Hey Morris Day they said was hi most of the time on set too, and he took the show ..

Cool * I'm all for discussion, trust. And I agree. It's not that serious * I can't speak for live performances. I wasn't there. I was just born and all. But I agree. She was able to deliver with little to no preparation for the role and put up with some gangster shit. Who fuck will jump through a sheet of ice for the shot? A dedicated performer that's who! * Contrary to my general... I guess... comparative youth, I do know a teeny bit-o-history about Prince and Proteges. It's not exhaustive by any stretch of the imagination, but yeah. I have listened to the OG version of Sex Shooter. I prefer the instrumentation and backing track. I don't particularly care for the vocal performance though. And again, to me, this is because I don't personally think she was really a great singer. So when she's doing little flourishes, I'm just not digging them. I think I said something like this earlier about about Apples earlier. That she was a singer before Prince. Let me rephrase that: I think she may have sung and could sing. But she probably wasn't a "singer" (as others may qualify her). And I think the same for Vanity. I think that she may have been familiar enough with her voice and could sing songs, but I don't really think of her as a singer. As I don't really think of The-Dream as a singer. Or of Diddy as a rapper. * I dig what you are saying. That their actual history and chemistry offstage helped with performances? * Kind of a double edged sword, right? We applaud performances based on artifical stimulation, so it creates a positive feedback loop. Good stuff though. I mean conversation-wise. "I mean I always figured you were a trip at times, but now I'm beginning to believe you're a freaking vacation." -2elijah

I'll weigh in.
Comparing the albums--Apollonia 6 beats Vanity 6; can't say I care for any post Prince work that I've heard (limited), so Apollonia wins here. Not her doing--part of the competition is clearly not really even either one of the two women's vocals, but involve Brenda or Susan. Most important of all, I just like the songs better, I think--as well as where Prince was musically when he produced the thing.
That said, I prefer the Vanity 6 "Sex Shooter"--but not because of the vocals. I like that extra riff in the unreleased version.
If I allow myself to be pulled into a discussion of personal appeal/hotness: Vanity. Far and away. [Edited 5/31/13 17:47pm]

And probably a derail, but if Vanity was the mold, Sheila broke it. She was like the fully realized protoge prince girl. She was ride or die, charasmatic, SEXY AS FUCK, and very musicially talented. To quote OldFriends4Sale, she was "real." "I mean I always figured you were a trip at times, but now I'm beginning to believe you're a freaking vacation." -2elijah

oh stop . it's really only beating a dead horse if the people discussing it are the same people over and over . this is a new members joined Dec 2012 . this person could be a new fan to the whole scene and this is all new for them

Is it true that Appollonia was dating David Lee Roth, at time of PR, but had to break it off because Prince wanted her to look like she was his? That's the story I always heard. And then (I think on Vh1's "I Love the 80's) Apollonia said that people wanted to believe that she and he were a couple.

Vanity was the real deal. Her "nasty girl" persona was genuine. If she had stuck around for 'Purple Rain',she and Prince would have sizzled together on-screen.There was real chemistry there.Plus,a second Vanity 6 album would have been amazing! The original V-6 version of "Sex Shooter" is a masterpiece. It would have done just as well as "Nasty Girl" if not better."Vibrator" is the type of over-the-top sex song that Apollonia could have never pulled off.
For the most part,Apollonia was just a replacement, filling in for the real thing.Near the end of "Sex Shooter" when she demands "all the nasty people sing it!",it just sounds forced and silly It's like she was pushed into being something that she is not.But it worked, for a little while.

Having heard the V6 version of "Sex Shooter",plus "Vibrator" and rumors of "G-Spot" being considered for the second Vanity 6 album,it's interesting how things changed when Vanity left. It's like Prince attempted to tone down the X-rated sexiness because he knew that Apollonia wouldn't be able to pull it off.He began handing them "safe" pop stuff like "Manic Monday" and "A Million Miles".He was even gonna include "Take Me With U" on their album. These songs are so much different from the outrageous, edgy stuff that we heard on the Vanity 6 debut album.
