Andy should be thankful that she has a pretty face & a pearly -white set of chicklets in her mouth...her looks make up for her lack of musical integrity.
The music industry has turned into a popularity contest.
Not jealous at all,in fact it is rather amusing to watch people swoon over these poseurs.
Allo is a people pleaser for sure.
Keep smilin' Andy...all the way to the bank.
The bolded is the line I have problem with. Most of you had never heard of Andy before her association with Prince. She had a CD in 2009. Her integrity was not in question UNTIL HER ASSOCIATION WITH PRINCE. Prince is the one who tried to turn a coffeehouse acoustic soul singer into a funk mistress. Really all he wanted to do was hear himself through someone younger by his own guidance. We all know this. His ego hasn't waivered that much.
In the grand scheme of music, Andy ain't that big and even though her Prince association has garnered her more national attention, she still isn't really that popular outside of Prince.org. I don't think anyone here is claiming she is some massive talent. She is a singer/songwriter. She is the kind of artist that you would see doing an acoustic gig at a small club or poetry spot. THAT IS WHO SHE IS.
She has always dabbled in R&B and her songs are somewhat souldful but within the realm of what she does. It wasn't until Prince got her that she was formatted into a "poser" image. If not for Prince's involvement, none of you would know or care who she is and be so overly critical of what she does. She herself has never claimed to be more than what she is. Its the association with Prince that has led to this fan base-bred hype and consequently, fan base resentment.

When Andy started touring with Prince he made comments about her looks in interviews. He's the one who wanted people to focus mostly on her appearance. She was on stage posing with guitars and painting pictures. Andy claim to be his secret weapon so she put herself in the position to become collateral damage. She even tried to act like Prince, she was misleading and lied or didn't give straight answers in her interviews. She came off as silly. I didn't like the image she adopted when she became associated with Prince. I liked some songs on her first cd and I think her skin is thicker than some Prince fans here so I don't think she needs any longtime Prince fans trying to defend her. |

imo trying out new looks and styles isn't posing, it's a creative process called growing as an artist. and since andy is an actress, it makes sense that she would try out new themes for herself while in the process of learning new stuff.
maybe prince did shape her into something other than her former self but i betcha she is a better artist for having been there. and eventually she will go back to what it is she likes best, stronger than before for having tried something new.

Seeing all these ads it makes sense why I felt like I'd seen that girl before.
I've probably seen her face tons of times over the last few years, I can remember some of these
She's got that perfect "pretty girl next door"- type of face so why wouldn't she do these modeling jobs?
I seriously doubt that if any of you were asked you'd be like "No thanks, I don't want to make money off of anything other than my music!".

Artists doing commercials has been common in the US for eons.
When there are no albums, interviews, radio shows, singles, tours, tv shows, etc... the bills keep flowing no matter.

I guess I'm confused why her modelling for advertisements makes her less legitimate

Anyways, she had a career as a model just like Nicole Kidman or Sigourney Weaver did before acting.
So, it's not her other career options to me that make her less legit--it's her so-so talent.
I'm more annoyed that Prince put so much effort into launching her music career instead of focusing on his own. I can't blame the girl for trying.
Prince had a very good reason for putting so much effort into launching Andy's music career but she launched her own modeling, acting, and music career before Prince tracked her down.
I can't blame or hate her for trying. She was offered the opportunity of a lifetime. More people know of her as a result.
Prince wasn't going to put out anything of his own at the time. He became interested in Andy and hoped to make her an overnight celebrity. He wanted her to sing a few personal songs he wrote and Andy didn't do a bad job but I agree her singing and guitar talent is so-so. I think she does best when acting and modeling for advertisements. Andy appeared on a popular cable show called The Game before she met Prince. None of her Superconductor songs had a lasting effect on me.
She's a so-so singer, and I'm not even going to get into her 'guitar playin'
She's a so-so looking model, and certainly not that interesting a model. And, I have no interest in watching her act.
Like Bria, Carmen, Ingrid, and the ilk, most everyone on the org would be ignoring her had it not been for Prince. Certainly no Mavis, Maceo, or Kravitz. I would be surprised if we see much of her in the future. But, then again--I assumed the same thing about Kylie Minogue in the 90s. |

The difference between Andy and Carmen, Ingrid, Bria and the ilk is that Andy had a career before Prince. She was on a weekly t.v. show. Prince didn't make her; he just made her a more popular singer. |

yes, but I'm speaking about whether orgers would have cared who she was at all. Regardless of their past, people only care about these so-so talents because of Prince.
Andy could have released 10 albums, and 99% of orgers wouldn't really have cared. Now, I'm suspecting at least 10 to 20 percent have gotten hold of her Prince album. |

You speak as if the org is some standard or marker of popularity outside of the Prince community.
It seems to me that most orgers are out of touch anyway.
My point was that Prince didn't "make" Andy like he did those other women. She was already a tv personality. I found out about her music a little later and not long after, I saw an ad with her in it.
I still think that her resemblence to Professor Spalding is what caught Prince's eye. We know he wanted to "mold" Esperanza but Esperanza doesn't need or want to be molded and she's more than capable of her own music. Andy was right place, right time for him. Still, she too was already famous. |

Would that be out of touch like Prince?
Andy was at the right place at the right time for him and I think Prince is main reason she won enough votes to perform at the Pre-Party for the Billboard Awards. Eyejester voted for her 77 times but since Prince is being honored she probably was going to win regardless so I don't take any of it, Andy Allo or the Billboard voters who voted her The Next Big Diva, seriously. It's hard for me to take much of what Prince is involved with seriously. I'm very interested in finding out what he's not involved with. |

I get your point. And, I'm not denying that she wouldn't have a career of her own.
But, Sufjan Stevens is an up and coming musician. But far fewer threads are started about him because he's not a Prince protege. I'm speaking specifically about orgers and the stuff they rattle off on threads. Andy would barely be on the org radar if not for Prince.
I don't mean to imply that orgers are somehow a standard candle for which the rest of the musical universe can measure a person's success. |

We're basically in agreement. While Andy was not as popular for her music, she was a television personality before Prince. The org might not have ever started a thread about her, but she is well known in certain circles. |
