Did Wendy Break Up The Revolution?

I have read on the "Parade" thread the major discussion going on about Wendy's infulenece in the disbandment of the Revolution. I suggest that you discuss it here and leave the people over at the "Parade" thread discuss the album.

Now, before you begin disussion on this topic and it turns into a "Wendy Bashing" v.s. "Wendy Defending" I want you to be aware of a few facts and consider them carefully:

1. Wendy was not the Revolution.
2. Wendy and Prince had formed a close friendship.
3. Prince admired Wendy's talent which is why he chose to
collaborate with with her on 4 released albums and
numerous professionally unreleased tracks.
4. Prince was so happy with the collaboration that he
credited her and made it known.
5. Prince did not collaborate with his band before Wendy
was hand-picked to join. He wanted someone to work with.
6. Wally, Greg and Jerome added no MUSICAL collaboration.
They dressed up the act and were dancers and clowns.
7. "D.M.S.R" only states ONE-HALF of the story. It is
incomplete information. You can't let it be the Bible.
8. NONE OF US KNOWS WHAT WENT ON BEHIND CLOSED DOORS. We
don't know what was said to whom and whose feeling were
hurt.
9. Prince wanted to move in a different direction. So, he
chose to eliminate those around him who would not be
happy in his new endevour.

Here is my opinion:

First, Yes, Wendy can be very outspoken. But think about your job ... if you just sat in the corner and did your work and never asked for a promotion, you would be working at the same place 'til retirement. You need to speak up in order to get what you want. When men do it it is considered Assertiveness, but when women do it --- they are a BITCH.

Second, Wendy and Prince were friends. Now think about your friends ... If you were in danger of loosing your friend to someone else, you would be jealous. People do strange things when they feel rejected.

Finally, The collaboration was wonderful. They sold millions of records working together. How would you feel if you gave your all to an employer and it proved to be fruitful and was actually getting better with time ---Then your employer decided one day that he wanted to go play with the boys and made it clear that he didn't need or want your imput anymore? I would be pissed and hurt. Anger and pain also make people react in ways that they never would.

So, can you consider Wendy a bitch in this situation? Absolutely! But anyone else in her position would have done the same. But you can not blame the break up of the Revolution on Wendy. Don't mistake her "nothing can come close" comment for cockiness. It was made with respect, pride and reverence for something great. Prince needed to move in a different direction, period!
That is why the Revolution broke up.

Now get on with life...

The Revolution broke up because Prince wanted to go in a new direction. Wendy didn't 'cause the break up, now I will admit her and Prince probably were't on the best terms, but had she been the problem, he would've just gotten rid o her, not disbanded the whole group.
Kepp in mind Wendy and Lisa also wanted to do new things, Prince asked them to stay for the tour.
Prince wanted to do something new, which didn't include Wendy & Lisa, the "pips", and Bobbby Z.
really the big argument going on in the parade thread was that Wendy got a big head, princ made her the star, ect.

true, but not all the time, sometimes gave credit, when she or anyone (ie. his father), did not help with writing

5. Prince did not collaborate with his band before Wendy

wrong, he collaborated with Dr. Fink, Lisa and Andre many a time

was hand-picked to join.

wrong again, Lisa instroduced them

He wanted someone to work with. I think this happened over time, not because he wanted someone to work with. First Ave. 1983 was Wendy's first live gig ANYWHERE

6. Wally, Greg and Jerome added no MUSICAL collaboration They dressed up the act and were dancers and clowns..true

9. Prince wanted to move in a different direction. So, he chose to eliminate those around him who would not be happy in his new endevour. .from what I am told, it was mutual, more so on W&L side. That's why Dream Factory never saw the light of day, Prince was bitter and never wanted it released (ask Thunderball).

Wait a minute. Don't forget about the relationship between Prince and Susanna. There was a lot of hurt goingon with that, and Wendy didn't like it

And we can't forget about the Prince-Sue thing, that probably was what caused some tention and the fact that Wendy got more attention (which made brownmark incredibly bitter).

5.true

6.true

you don't sound stupid, not everyone nows/cares about Prince's personal life

Prince and Susannah were a couple, they were engaged, they had a very turbulent relationship, they fought a lot, plus Prince wasn't too faitful, Wendy didn't/never liked it

Susannah was Wendy's twin sister(just in case you didn't know that)

1. Wendy was not the Revolution.
2. Wendy and Prince had formed a close friendship.
3. Prince admired Wendy's talent which is why he chose to
collaborate with with her on 4 released albums and
numerous professionally unreleased tracks.

That would be only 3 released albums Technically you can consider 5, if we really wanna go there: PR, ATWIAD, Parade, SOTT and CrystalBall. But I was going for the ones released by WB/PP.
4. Prince was so happy with the collaboration that he
credited her and made it known.

true, but not all the time, sometimes gave credit, when she or anyone (ie. his father), did not help with writing Really, I was not aware of that. I always thought something was up because "Computer Blue and "Father's Song" are basically the same. Thanks for that info.

5. Prince did not collaborate with his band before Wendy

wrong, he collaborated with Dr. Fink, Lisa and Andre many a time That is absolutely correct. I just didn't recall any circumstance where he credited them for collaboration. But I could have missed somethin.

was hand-picked to join.

wrong again, Lisa instroduced them Sorry I have to disagree here. Yes Lisa did introduce them, BUT, Prince himself, picked her to join the band. Lisa, did not just put her in the band. If Prince didn't like her, he would not have chosen her...NO MATTER WHAT LISA WANTED.

He wanted someone to work with. I think this happened over time, not because he wanted someone to work with. First Ave. 1983 was Wendy's first live gig ANYWHERE But, apparently he felt enough of a musical creative connection, because it did not take long for this process to start happening. It was her 1st album.

6. Wally, Greg and Jerome added no MUSICAL collaboration They dressed up the act and were dancers and clowns..true

7. "D.M.S.R" only states ONE-HALF of the story. It is
incomplete information. You can't let it be the Bible..true

8. NONE OF US KNOWS WHAT WENT ON BEHIND CLOSED DOORS. We
don't know what was said to whom and whose feeling were
hurt.
9. Prince wanted to move in a different direction. So, he chose to eliminate those around him who would not be happy in his new endevour. .from what I am told, it was mutual, more so on W&L side. That's why Dream Factory never saw the light of day, Prince was bitter and never wanted it released (ask Thunderball).I absolutely agree...It was mutual. Even Wendy and Lisa have stated that they were working on songs, without Prince, while they we in the Revolution.

Wait a minute. Don't forget about the relationship between Prince and Susanna. There was a lot of hurt goingon with that, and Wendy didn't like itYes that may very well have been the case. You can list many more speculated reasons, other than what I have listed. I was trying to stay on the semi-professional reasons for disbandment. AND YOUR SUGGESTION IS WHY I PROPOSED THE TOPIC. I wanted to hear other thoughts.

It was made with respect, pride and reverence for something great.Prince needed to move in a different direction, period!
