SUPERCONDUCTOR - best since The Gold Experience

WOW.

This record is totally insane and fast becoming one of my favourites.

The serious musicianship, the magical production, the feel good/heartbreaking stories/lyrics (especially the Prince-penned Long Gone and The Calm), not to mention...the melodies...(When Stars Collide, anyone?!). These attributes are not only tighter than any of his superior records of late, such as The Rainbow Children and Lotus Flower, they also flow so much more fluidly (speaking of which, don't you just love the start to Yellow Gold...DAMN...I also love the "latte on a cold day" lyric). There are just so many great Prince-ly musical references laced throughout this record, I don't know where to start, it is insane. I am getting the feeling I used to get when I first heard a brilliant Prince record back in the day. I love the similarities I get from The Calm borrowing from The Rebel's If I Love You Tonight mixed with a slower-bluesy version of Prince's It's Gonna Be Lonely. And don't get me started on Nothing More, mixing musical references from The Love We Make, Prince's rolling renditions of Creep and Shhh from his musical festivals (without the mad drumming or guitar epiphany)!!! And, lest we forget, who on earth is drumming throughout this record???!!! I swear I hear Michael B. and definitely John Blackwell throughout; it's pitch perfect. For the first time, I think Prince has outdone himself on wax with the "live" feeling he has thus far failed to convincingly create in the studio. For any Prince aficionado, this album seriously requires attention/reviewing and I have only just started. Let me go listen to If I Was King one more time...what a supreme feel good factor to this song...those HORNS at the end are just killing me!

Unfortunately, I am already suspecting this record will become a seriously underrated, hidden, gem, lost in the little known (for good reason) discography of Prince's associated artists. Surely, it can't just be me hearing this record in such elevated terms? It is f%c$ing brilliant.

love,

Spirit

Cosign, this is a gem. Perfect album, very coherent, deep, yet playful and breezy.

It's a surprisingly solid and enjoyable album, but the Gold Experience comparison is a highly disputable reach. confused

I'm really liking the album! I kinda wish Prince used some of the songs for himself though... Especially "If I Was A King"! I mean... Comeon! Andy Allo sings the song through the perspective of a guy, and kings are one step above Princes... But overall the album has great songs and nice production. I'll probably play the crap out of People Pleaser, If I Was A King, and Yellow Gold

it's an okay cd to me, it's not shake the best since gold experience though. maybe if prince himself were singing the songs it would make the difference?
