Morris Day & The Time came to my neck of the woods last night I'm kinda surprised that there wasn't a single thread here mentioning it. There was an advertisment in my local paper that they were coming for a concert. The promo was "from Purple Rain to the Poconos"...
Although what it ended up being was that they were the headliner of the 6th annual Northeastern R&B weekend. Three acts came before them. Seeing as I was probably the youngest person there and one of maybe 5-10 white people in the whole damn place, I hadn't heard of Harry Melvin's Blue Notes, Evelyn "Champagne" King or Heatewave. I knew a handful of the songs, though.
But once Morris Day was in the house, the rest was all but forgotten about... at least in my mind. Other than Jimmy Jam, Jerome Benton and Jellybean, none of the other original members came. Afterwards I kinda recalled hearing that Jesse was off doing his own thang.
Where they held the concert was maybe 15 minutes away from my house... and along with the demographic I mentioned, I was probably the only local person. Everyone else came in from New York, Connecticut and just about everywhere else. Then again, they aren't a really well known group. At the end of the day, the details didn't matter. What did matter was that Morris Day still got it goin' on and I felt like a kid in a candy store because I recognized every song they did. The same couldn't be said for the majority of the other people there
For my full review, check out this link to my blog. http://dreamypoproyalty.x...t-for-you/ But in case you're not up for a long read, I'll post the set-list.
sorry I didn't come back with more pictures, but I figure... getting the most out of the show was the most important thing had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone

I read your blog, awesome review. As far as the lineup goes, though, I believe the only original bandmembers touring with Morris Day and The Time are Morris, Jellybean Johnson and Monte Moir. Sounds like it was a great show, though, I wish I had been there.

Yeah, the fellas pretty much do the same show every place they go. But, if you've never seen Morris & Co. before, they put on a really fun show. "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

I was there too!!!! forgot to check here for others, it's been a while. I joined here 2 years ago when prince was playing nyc and i wanted to find out about possible meet-ups, but i was/am too weary of meeting people through the net. I always wanted to post my story about getting into butter for a aftershow and shaking hands with the man!!! This is actually my first post, but since it's almost 2 months later, nobody's gonna see it. I was one of the minorities (white people), but if i saw 20 there were probably 40-50 representing. I could argue that my friend and i were the 2 of youngest people there, but i don't like to argue (yeah i do!). My review will be short. Morris kills it, crowd sits for most it (very upset by this). I get asked during the first song if i would like to go on stage and do the bird when the time comes (no pun intended). I say yes, but my friend and and end up walking around changing spots so that guy probably never saw us again. After the show, fernwood wants $35 to get into afterparty, to which my friend and i refuse, so we go to a bar right next to it and..... Morris walks in within 20 minutes. Not the afterparty, but the bar where a few fans are hanging out. My friend and i got him and his bodyguard hennessy shots and thanked him for coming here and the great performance. I can't believe I've said hello and shaken both of these guys hands now (living a dream!). He said no to pics, but we went back to say goodnight when we were leaving close to 2am. I feel bad that the original poster wanted to meet him and yet he was hanging out 100ft from the venue. I laugh cuz I shoulda told him how much i loved him in ford fairlane!!! Add chocolate and jerk out to the set list because i have video of both!
P.S. How do you insert a picture??? that insert/edit thing is weird. can you tell i'm new at this [Edited 12/21/12 19:21pm]
