Hey! Just like you, I do not have any bootlegs or illegal DLs! I was sad for the demise of the digital garden because it was interesting information, I could look up what people were talking about, the dates of recording, etc., but I have never illegally downloaded. I still haven't heard all of 20ten because I can't be bothered to buy a physical copy off eBay for the prices I last saw on there. I've heard Laydown from his few performances of it, and NBA promo.

I like the Calm the best. The three songs all talk about sex in some way...big surpirse. She MUST not be dating/married whatever with P if that's the case since we know he's celibate. Interesting that he wrote The Calm and Superconductor with her though...

listened to those bits of "superconductor" and "yellow gold" (i've yet to find "the calm" anywhere)

they're not bad. not at all. but they're not special either. they're just kind of there. and that's it.

the 8 second sample for the song superconductor sounded more exciting than the 1.30 minutes

i've heard of it now, nothing in which is half as exciting as that snippet (and the snippet wasn't

that exciting to begin with to be honest, but it did sound kind of urgent)

I think the last I checked for it was two years ago! It was more expensive then.

And then seeing all the reviews for it over time, I just haven't bothered, ha ha.

I do love Switzerland, so I'm tempted to get it for "Lavaux," but then I've seen the lyrics and not that impressed. If it were about only Switzerland, and include every single canton, especially Appenzell region, I might've sprung for it.

A "revolutionary" way of distribution is badly-needed, the 6 snippets I've heard so far (more than half of the record) sound pretty unexciting.

Apology accepted. I agree with you that it would be premature for anyone to leak this now and unfair to Andy. If it eventually becomes clear that the CD will never be officially released, that's a different kettle of fish.

without lables, how do you expect new artists to record their music? Studio time is expensive! Not every young artist is independently wealthy or dating Prince.

I'm not crazy about the current state of the industry, but it is still paying to create most of that music people are downloading for free. Because some people are still buying it. But as soon as there is no profit in making records, then records won't get made--or, all records will sound like cheap demos.

Still I don't necessarily blame people for doing what is so fucking easy. If there was ANY obstruction to downloading, then I think people would be more inclined to pay again. But it's just so easy to get it for free.

no. it isn't. the fact is, both legally and morally, andy's music is andy's music until she releases it and enters into a contract for the sale of her material to you.

way:

you walk into a record store, grab an album, and run out without paying. the alarms go off, the security guard appears, and you are arrested for stealing. quite straightforward, and you have no defense.

now let's put it into 'file sharing' perspective. your friend walks into the record store, grabs an album, and runs out without paying for it. on the way out your friend drops the album on the ground outside the store. you see the album lying there, walk over, pick it up and run off with it. you have just stolen the album.
