Still, she is right. Analog is a far superior sound to humans than digital, at least according to my communications professors when I got my degree. Also, from my 26 years of experience as a DJ, I have to agree with Ms. Rashida...

And who knows, maybe Prince got that opinion from her... Hmmm.

That's just like saying VHS tapes are superior to Blu-ray discs. Or that 1950s style film-reels provide better quality cinema than digital technology. Not.

Perhaps! What's funny to me isn't so much the opinion, but the phrasing. You expressed the same point clearly and didn't mention numbers corrupting the senses. I know I've heard Prince talk smack about numbers before AND in this same context!

Do you think in a few years digital music will be able to perfect its sound quality? or have those numbers ruined it for good?

I agree with this too...analog does sound better. I used to be a big fan of vinyl but eventually succumbed to CD when it got harder and harder to get my hands on proper vinyl. Go to any audiophile website and you will see plenty of people discussing the advantages of analog over digital all day long. It's almost as bad as the arguments about buying more expensive HDMI cables over cheap ones (it's all 1s and 0s after all!) Personally I use decent cables as opposed to the cheapest anstiest ones, but I don't go too mental, just a bid daft!

The equipment you are using is just as important as the media you play from...a bad turntable, amp, speaker combo will make vinyl sound really, really bad. Same goes for a rubbish CD player.

Everything is relative. Not all audiophiles are stuck on vinyl, as I am one myself. All many of us care about is how to make any music sound superlative from a stereo system, whether it's sourced from an MP3, cassette, 8-track, or whatever. Therefore, the format of the audio itself is immaterial. It's the hardware (decks/receivers, speakers, subs, amplifiers, etc) used to emit it that's important.

Indeed...and we can even get iPod docks with proper old fashioned (bet actually ratehr advanced) valve amplifiers!

I have friends who work for both Linn and Tannoy, so I have been in their factory test/demo labs which are both just outside Glasgow, Scotland, and heard what $20,000 speakers sound like, and a CD/amp/speaker stereo combo worth $80,000+...and I am happy to report that I can't tell the difference between them and my mid range setup. I can think mine sounds much better than the little Panasonic Micro CD system I also have, so it was worth the investment to me, but there really does come a point where I can't tell the difference.

I can remember the first time I watched Purple Rain on my new Yamaha/Tannoy based Home Theatre setup and I was stunned by the clarity of the instruments...there were soooo many more layers of drums and percussion that I had just never noticed before. So yes, quality of equipment is indeed extremely important (but you don't need to go mental!!)

No it is not like saying VHS tapes are superior to Blu-Ray disc. Analog sounds better than digital and P was not the first person to state this. It is unfortunate that Rashida is repeating exactly what he said but some of you should realize that P is rich, good looking and famous some young girls will jump over a lake of fire to get with him.

And I was one of the first to do it in Houston, back in the '70's. I mixed songs before anyone knew what mixing was. My tapes were a big hit on the streets of New York City.

But either I was born too early, or someone has really fooled y'all for the last 25 years.
