ICE CREAM CASTLE

What are your fav tracks on the album....presuming you liked it in the first place.

What about the deleted tracks that ended up as either B sides or singles on other albums, e.g. Tricky and Chocolate? Wise choice or creative mishap?

Discuss pepsi

Chocolate (which I love) was released on pandemonium.

I really like tricky too. It's pretty quirky but really lighthearted and fun just like most of The Time material.

Quick side note Does anybody know which album Morris Day's 'Love Sign' was on? Did Prince have anything to do with this track? It sounds like something he might produce at that time.

Wasn't that a single? 12 inch, not released as part of an album. I might be mistaken.

I'm curious as to what people would make of the music to Chili Sauce and and If the Kid Can't Make you Come if they were instrumentals.

Jungle Love

Murph Drag

Shake

Love Sign

The Character

I think it is an amazing album, but too short. The Bird, Jungle Love and My Drawers are all great songs and the rest are fairly good songs.

The expanded version of my book PRINCE and The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions 1983-1984 was released in November 2018. (www.amazon.com/gp/product/1538114623/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_bibl_vppi_i0) or www.facebook.com/groups/1...104195943/

It's not terrible, but it's a very lazy album. "Chili Sauce" is an overlong skit so it's really only five songs. My favorites I suppose are the singles "Jungle Love" and "The Bird", but the original versions on the First Avenue bootleg are better. The title track isn't bad, but lyrically makes more sense if it was sung by Prince. "My Drawers" is the track that has the most life in it. Listening to all of the album now, it's so clear the magic was gone. It's my least favorite Time album.

I agree with everything you said nod There's a laziness to this album. It's not nearly as vibrantly funky as What Time Is It?.When Jam and Terry were fired, the magic was definitely gone.

"My Drawers" is as good as it gets.

You know what might have helped this album? If "Chili Sauce" (a filler track) had been removed and replaced with a great tune like "Chocolate" or even "Do Yourself A Favor".

My least favourite Time album (What Time Is It? being my favourite), but I still think it's a solid effort. My Drawers is probably my favourite track followed closely by If The Kid Can't Make You Come and Ice Cream Castles. Not such a big fan of Jungle Love or The Bird....they're pretty weak in comparision to staples like COOL or Wild and Loose.

Btw, wasn't Cloreen Baconskin a b-side to one of the singles off the album or something? Now THAT'S a track haha!

Not my favorite.... I haven't listened to it since 1984. Now "What Time Is It?" still gets love from me every couple of weeks. And I agree "Chili Sauce" is too long and drawn out.

I agree the firing of Jimmy & Terry is what killed the band, but the funny thing about that is they had hardly anything to do with the first two albums. Which might be why Prince fired them instead of just reprimanding them. He probably thought, "I'm the one recording all the music on the albums. These guys are replaceable." confused

"Replacable" until he put them on tour and they played his music live better than he did. The Time to me are a live band that can't be replicated. Yes Prince wrote all their music, performed it all on the albums (bar singing and drums), but they were DYNAMITE on stage. And he knew it.

But, it's supposed to be Morris' group. Shouldn't he be the one who decides who stays or who goes? Why did they have to only tour with Prince anyway? Why couldn't the group perform with other acts of the period?

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

The Time is Prince's group. He makes all the decisions. The end.
