You're forgetting one thing: Nostalgia.

There's a niche market out there full of people like me, who grew up in the 70's and 80's who crave for the days when music was good and will still go out and support these acts. They may not sell records that much anymore or play on the radio but their live act is what keeps them going. Morris Day has made a pretty good living with the Touring Band and I can only imagine if the O7 would have taken this project on the road. Personally I think JJ and TL just didn't have the time to take away from producing and Morris didn't want to steer away from the old stuff too much and then ther was Jesse. Who knows really.

That tends to work more with classic rock like The Police, Paul McCartney, Stones, or Van Halen. Kool & The Gang are opening for Van Halen, not the other way around. Still for the most part, the veteran rock acts are really successful with touring, less so with any new albums they release. Also, the other groups didn't change their names, even if they don't have the same members like Journey and The Temptations. How many people know who The Original 7ven are?

Not necessarily true. I've seen Kool & the Gang flood a music festival minus JT Taylor

and i'm talking with part of the audience being people who would normally go to see

the acts you've just mentioned. I had never seen that many people at an outdoor

music festival and it seemed like the people would never stop coming and it

was only topped barely by Ray Charles the next night. I've seen Cameo and PFunk

pack them in too. These outdoor music festivals are starting to become more popular

among old school R & B acts. Charlotte has been one of the host cities for the Soul

Food music festival the past few summers and it has been phenomenal. I'm waiting

now to see which acts are booked this year. Wonder 505 actually makes a good point.

Maze is a veteran R & B act who hasn't recored a new album since 1993 and their

shows are always a sell out so don't sell some of these acts short.

I agree. Heck my Mom saw Dionne Warwick last year at the Hard Rock Cafe in Fort Lauderdale and the place was packed! and so was her concert in New Jersey.

Maybe they could have gotten some attention if they did like Carlos Santana, Charlie Wilson, Lionel Richie, Tony Bennett, and other older acts and put some rappers or young singers on it.

I've had "Condensate" since it came out. I played it once and went back to Wale, Wiz Khalifa and Curren$y. I thought it didn't stack up against the other four albums, and if it did, I'd have decades to get used to it. Last week I accidentaly played "If I was Your Man" and LOVED it! That made me listen to the whole thing again and I've played it nonstop ever since. Once you memorize it, it fits in seamlessy with the other The Time albums. The music is up to date, more or less, but I don't think kids would like it or listen to it. That's the key to making the Original 7ven relevant again. Today's youth should look up to them the same way I looked up to James Brown even though the bulk of his music was released way before I was born.
