Jimmy Jam & Morris Day speak This was posted to YT on March 9, 2012. [Edited 3/20/12 14:20pm] You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. Hmmm No tour dates , but a few festivals & using the name The Time to tour as we all know Morris is already :
Thanks for this but thought he would've mentioned Jesse's departure : Wonder who's replacing him : " He's All Black, He's All White, Everybody's Gotta Jam 2Nite, Limouzine ".

^^The general public doesn't know who the individual members are or that the group even has an album out. It's not like Jesse Johnson is a household name that most of the viewers of this program would know. At any rate, maybe the fellas are talking to Jesse. Hunh, looks like Jimmy Jam was irritated by being asked the same old questions and he was throwing out the usual PR answers...until he was asked about Morris and then he had a smile on his face. So, I think they ain't dead as a group yet...but I won't hold my breath waiting for any major tour. Too bad. morris day and the time are always touring so it shouldnt be hard at all for the real time 2 tour at all.maybe they need prince 2 whip them in2 shape people try 2 blame prince 4 thier problems and seems as if they have em without him.jesse got 2 much damn ego he act like he was on michal jackson level or some shit he sold a few records yet but jimmy and terry sucess was way larger than his ever will be and they not acting like divas

They probably have to. Jimmy & Terry doesn't have as much need to perform as they don't need the money. I think they're the holdup as they're still producing other acts. I've heard they're supposed to be working with Janet Jackson & New Edition. Other than occasionally playing with The Time, Jam & Lewis don't perform at all. In one of the O7 interviews, it was said that Terry rarely picked up the bass until the group got back together in 2008 at The Grammys. well cant be true about janet cuz she has said several times she doesnt see herself releasing a album anytime soon maybe a song or 2 here or there but no full cd. i just feel if they werent ready 2 give there all 2 the project y even release it?? no 2nd single no full blown promotions. its a great product so they could easily tour and may it happen.they all said terry been the one over the years hounding and pressuring them all about bringing it back so im sure his bass not dusty

People say all kinds of things. Cher and Tina Turner said they were never going to tour again either. How many farewell tours have they done now? Prince said in the 1990's he wasn't going to perform the old hits anymore. Over the last few years Stevie Wonder has announced he was releasing several different albums (one gospel, one country, one jazz, a collabo album with Tony Bennett), that have yet seen the light of day. Sting said that he would never get together with The Police. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. I think Jesse has been vindicated with his frustrations. I wrote before that I was going to monitor the situation to see how long they keep the fans waiting for a show or a tour but we're headed into spring/summer now and nothing concrete has been published.

^^Jesse was probably sitting around expecting something to happen. The others never stopped working. Morris, Monte, & Jellybean were still working as MD & The Time and Jellybean was also performing with F-Deluxe. I'm not sure what Jerome is doing. It was reported last year that Morris Day and The Time was booked up till February, but now they've extended. So I still think they're waiting for Jam and Lewis to finish whatever they're doing. Jimmy Jam is with the Grammy board, so I guess he was busy with that. Terry is supposed to be the manager of the group, so it's his job to get the group work. Perhaps he was the one who told Jesse there were no gigs scheduled during the group conference. Good assessment. What a shame. Either way I'm still waiting and will see them. MD and The Time or O6 at this point.

"I'm gonna write slave on, MY jaw!"... Morris is funny as hell. And that interview does sum up the situation. They are going to continue without Jesse and there is some thought about releasing another cd.

if u listen and think of what they said that prince wouldnt allow them 2 record under the name but can tour under the name sounds like 2 me he trying 2 protect them from warner brothers having any financial gain from the record. i dont see how prince could have issue with morris when he invites them 2 his houseparties and let them open for him still on tours. in the end jesse was the issue not prince

The O7's record is under Warners. It's on a label called Saguaro, which is a subsidiary label of Time/Life. Time/Life is really Warner Brothers. WMG claims the songs from Condensate on Youtube. So Warners is making money reguardless of what the group is called. ok but we dont know how that contract is set up though under this agreement they might the rights and the masters which prince is all about these days and if they record under the time name they might not

Sure, if they're leasing the album to Saguaro, which is what other acts who own their recordings (Genesis, Motley Crue, U2, etc.) do. Genesis owns all of their master recordings except their debut album. They lease the albums to Atlantic in the US, which is a Warners label. But Genesis' albums specifically say they're "under exclusive license to Atlantic Recording Corporation/Rhino Entertainment Company, a Warner Music Group Company". I was surprised about the Time/Life connection since they're mostly known for compilation box sets of old hits sold on infomercials, not new releases. I think the sadness, is that Condensate proves the magic is still there with all 7 members. I have been lucky enough to meet five of the seven, and hate taking sides on this. I understand what they are all saying, and even though I consider Jesse to be even crazier than I am, The album has been out 6 months, and they still have only done a few shows since it was released. Jesse's comments about nothing happening seem to be true. The shows that did happen were very short, and full of medleys and shortened songs. The awesome Morris Day & The Time shows from 1997-2000 were something you just had to see, and it is a shame that band has hit the medley stage before really being old enough to justify it. I orginally felt Jesse was just being Jesse, but I think the real thing that put the nail in this band was that Jimmy & Terry could've got them all back together in 1996 or so to make another album, but instead chose not to. A new album every 5-7 years would've kept up more interest in them, and it's not like Jimmy & Terry were producing tons of #1 hits after 1995 anyway, they had the time. It's so sad. One of the greatest bands every have only 5 albums, when they should at least have 8. It also would've been nice for Jesse to sing lead on 2 songs per album, and have a 3-5 song set with the Time every night, especially now, so Morris could rest, and not have to get to Prince's level with medleys and shortcuts. Still, with things the way they are, I'm glad to have Condensate, and will just have to accept that it's better than having nothing at all.

I agree. We got an amazing album from these guys and that will have to be enough.A tour would have been great but it just doesn't seem possible.I'd be happy if these guys could get together every few years and record a new album.

Exactly. It might had been messed up the way he announced his departure on FB, but its not like his reasoning for exiting wasn't valid. I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Jimmy and Terry did try to get them back together in the 90's. They completed at least two albums on the group. One shortly after Pandemonium and another around 1998. Strawberry Lake, If I Was Yo Man, and GoHomeToYoMan date back to those projects. The Condensate tracks are new productions, but the songs were originally written back then. The same is true for Roleplayin and Sick, I'm just not sure if they were Jesse solo tracks, or Time tracks from the 90's.
Jesse was right to some extent about the group dragging it's feet, but... there was never any need to take his frustrations public and attack the other members the way he has. Especially when, he was dragging down the live shows more than anyone.

He did? I only thought he was saying that the group wasn't booking enough live dates or going on tour and that's why he left (I don't have an FB page so I can't go to his to read what he wrote). I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.
