Kinda it's been over for Prince & The Rev, but maybe the Rev has other plans

This is SAD but Prince & The revolution is the best band from my point of view that Prince has ever had but this is not a SCOOP....Prince & the Revolution is OVER since 1986!!!

I guess you could read that in two ways, either that the band will not reunite with or without Prince, or that the band would only reunite if Prince decides to join. In either case, forever is a mighty long time, so we can still hope. I'm glad I was there for the one magical night.

[b][i]Bobby is meaning that that night The Revolution performed for the 1st time in yrs would be the 1st and last & would make history. That was the (annual) show to start many more benefit shows in the future. LoveFREELY....

Maybe the 2nd annual benefit could feature FDeluxe and The Original 7ven (or 6ix)? That would be cool. The Census Bureau estimates that there are 2,518 American Indians and Alaska Natives currently living in the city of Long Beach.

That's what it said. I guess they (or Prince) decided that was a one-show pony. It definitely looks like they will not be performing under the name The Revolution again. "Not to be revisited." --Those are strong words. [Edited 3/4/12 19:27pm]

um...he also said.... Always and forever to be known as PRINCE and The REVOLUTION.
just sayin' | |
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I think that was just showing Prince respect as the leader of the band. I thought the more telling part of that quote was The band The Revolution belongs 2 history now. Not 2 be revisited. I could be wrong though.

Well if you want to stick by the "first annual" thing (that didn't work out for the Family Jamm btw) - I'd go with this statement saying that P. let them use the name as a one time thing, and if they do any more they will probably go the fDeluxe/Original 7ven route for their name.
I dunno, everyone seems to want to go cryptic with this one, so that's all I've got.

But it's a first annual FUNDRAISER....which means ANYONE could play. Not first annual Revolution gig. At least that is how I read it.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Thats not at all what its saying..its simply ALL LOVE..Prince & The Revolution is the band..be well all..Peace!!

hope that the bit about being friends is true as Wendy didn't sound too impressed in the post gig interview - the quote about 'our beacon...'etc. On every level, P not showing up AND showing his face was wrong. I don't care about the dinner before or any 'well done' messages he may have sent after. He turned into a prima-donna event and made it all about him in the run up and not about a great casue.

Oh yeah, that makes sense, d'oh me!
Well, I look forward to next year's show with Good Question headlining!

It was on Facebook. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

"The band The Revolution belongs 2 history now. Not 2 be revisited."It looks like this is one time thing. Unless Bobby clarifies. But since he didnt clarified I am assuming that there wont be a future Revolution. I got a gut feeling Prince is pulling all the stops from further events of the Revolution is ever going to happen and Bobby Z took the high road with that message. But even though I am an 80s babies us Prince fans feel cheated for not ONLY were too young when the Revolution were around but the chance of seeking the Revolution reunites is slim. Likely Prince is being Prince he pulled legal stops for that to happen beyond First Annual. I mean that doesnt stop Wendy, Lisa, Bobby. Matt, and Mark from doing the Fdeluxe route with new albim and name but the question is are going tthey going to do it? I know Wendy and Lisa are very busy with scoring projects and not to mention they are both rasing smaller kids I mean even Fdeluxe and Original 7 had a hard time getting things start by using different names, so I dont know. What a shame though.

Well, since it's for Bobby Z and heart awareness, maybe next February, we can just call them the Zevolution . . .

I was there and it was AWESOME!
That said, it's a little annoying to see all the Facebook 'hints' etc.
First Bobby posted his "Thank you Prince you are my best friend" a few days before the show. He had to know how that would be interpreted (and it was sold out so why bother trying to create more buzz?)
Then all the band members on FB started asking us to share and post a petition to get The Revolution a tour (I did that).
Then this message which seems purposely crytpic but seems to conradict the plea to post the petition.
And I wouldn't put too much stock in "first annual." The Family Jamm was called that and they kept saying that night but it was a one time only thing.
I wish both would happen again, don't get me wrong.
This whole "prince owns the name" thing is so annoying. From the various threads on Fdeluxe and the Time it's not even clear he really owns these names but because of his $ and power no one wants to go up against him.
Being a fan is not easy is it?

very interesting details GaryMF. that confirm what I believe Prince send Bobby Z a warning or something.
I mean the five members can still do something together every year though but still it wont be the same. Prince probably mad that the band members can still kick ass without his presence and got a good buzz through the Mn media.

BrownMark posted something interesting on his Facebook page:
All I can say is, The Revolution is one of the greatest bands in our history!!! The combination of talent and musical minds that create such an awesome sound should never be put to rest!!! It should live on as part of the history it came from. You don't put greatness to history until it's dead!!!! We're all still here The Census Bureau estimates that there are 2,518 American Indians and Alaska Natives currently living in the city of Long Beach.

Personally, I do not see Wendy and Lisa going on tour with Prince. Not because they wouldn't want to, but they would not put their very successful careers on hold just to do a tour with Prince.
They work contantly. They have contracts with the shows that they compose scores for. They just can't up and leave all of that. "So strange that no one stayed at the end of the Parade..." - Wendy & Lisa's "Song About" on their 1987 self-titled album.
