I take it this means we probably won't be getting an official DVD. I wonder whether that rumor was based on the idea that Prince might show up for the finale.

The Census Bureau estimates that there are 2,518 American Indians and Alaska Natives currently living in the city of Long Beach.

I wouldn't say that. There was a crew there to shoot it. Not sure when that will see the light of day.

i've seen 2 different recordings surface so far...both are audience recordings. no soundboard just yet.

my big question about a professional dvd release is; will prince also allow this to happen? he was so gracious to let them use the revolution name for the gig, which was originally meant to be a one off. and considering his stance with the time and the family, it makes you wonder.

but will he be so kind as to let them release it on dvd knowing that totally goes past using the name for a benefit concert? considering he wants to keep such a tight rein on his own material, i wonder if he agreed to a dvd release as part of the deal since the whole show was made up of his songs. i guess as long as he gets his royalties on the songs performed, he can't stop them. but it would seem to me that if he was going to get upset about it, it would be smart of bobby z and the band to stick to what prince wants if they ever plan on doing anything revolution based again.

what do all of you think??

I don't know what Prince plans to do or what he may have agreed to do already. I suspect that Bobby Z. would not want to go against Prince's wishes if Prince is opposed to releasing the DVD. However, I see no reason why Prince should object. I hope there is an official DVD released.

It was professionally filmed so a DVD might be in the works. I'm sure that it would also be done to benefit Bobby Z's charity as well.

When eye go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all heart up in the house but when eye log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

He should object for the same reason he objected to The Family and The Time: complete control over the name = more chances to get complete control over future remasters/reissues of albums while things are settled with WB. Of course in The Revolution's case such rereleases would be less litigious (I can't see them claiming rights over Purple Rain, ATWIAD and Parade) but I guess Prince's lawyers might tell him "you never know"...

So how's the sound quality? I understand it's audience: is it listenable?

VERY listenable for an audience recording. Akashic Records did a nice job on the recording. Vocals & music are very clear, you do hear some audience chatter in between songs but I listened to this straight through with a nice pair of headphones and I'd give it a B+ for sound quality. With the technology of today, you really have to not know what you're doing or be using really outdated equipment to get a poor audience recording. Nice job on this release IMO.
