I saw the PR Tour twice. I remember the Next Time Wipe. . . bit. I had bleacher seats so I couldn't see it that well, but I remember it that she would "tie the guy" to a chair, and say "do you want to play with my timbales?" Funny enough I have heard people admit as much when it comes to onstage sexuality; the shock and wow factor stays on stage and when the lights go off, a lot of folks just chill the heck out a bit.

I remember the stick comment too!!! (Good grief are we showing our real age or what? )

So perhaps there were switches . Sometimes the paynus grab, sometimes the oral innuendo.

The oral thing was subtle, though, like a head dip movement---but WHOOO WHEEE the implication! Back then that was kinda shocking for pop music. I think until then the only time people were exposed to women being racy onstage were in smaller, boutique audiences like Millie Jackson (and occasionally Etta James).

About the poor guys tied up: you know they never did seem to be just ordinary guys from the neighborhood; seemed like they were always kinda cute, which at least made one think they were aat the very least scouted out beforehand. You never saw anyone getting up there that looked like the local plumber

I was way up in the bleachers so I easily could've missed the head-bob thing. I was very naive back then (I just turned 18) and I remember being SHOCKED when I saw the 2nd date a few months later on Long Island and realized she (and Prince) said the same banter "lines" at each show..... like back then I thought it was actual stage patter not scripted

well again, it wasn't a bob- it was a dip - and that was enough back then!--but yup, I felt the same way finding out people script their shows!!!

Did I mention I was even younger than you when I would tag along to these concerts ? There would be times I would sit with my little teenage face löooking like this,

We thought we were so cool getting to go to these shows by ourselves. I'll never forget my mom being irritaed because one of my Jackson features in Black Beat Magazine described one of their shows as "sexsational! " Now after seeing how she was all up in arms about that, you can be sure we weren't telling her about Prince, Vanity, Sheila E. or anybody else's show. We always made everything sound really safe and kosher, and it helped tremendously that the only song my mother really knew from Prince was "Still Waiting"

In her 80's heydey as a protege, Sheila used to have an audience participation bit in her show for the song "Next Time Wipe the Lipstick off Your Collar" (You old skoolers remember that don't cha?) Unsung was genteel enough to refer to that moment as "steamy", but in actuality what really took place is that Sheila would drop her head in a captive audience member's lap to er, um, simulate fellatio. Oddly enough, by this time I'd grown used to seeing Prince humping beds and faking orgasms during his song "Do Me Baby" or "International Lover" (for his 1999 tour), but when this chick would take some poor slob from the audience and drop her head in between some strange dude's legs, it was definitely a moment. This was something I, or likely a lot of people had never seen before in terms of pushing the envelope at a pop/r&b concert for a woman, and you could just hear people gasping. The year or two previously I do remember Vanity turning around to show us her ass in her thong teddy, encouraging the dudes in the audience to chant "Vanity is nasty", but somehow Sheila E.'s bit trumped that in a New York minute.

Not her finest moment onstage perhaps, but the rest of Sheila's show would be so kick ass, it was somehow easy to overlook it. The folly of youth, I suppose

But yeah, for me it was clear they weren't just talking about clothes.

Lawd knows I tried to go past this post without reacting... but now reading it a second time... I just can't resist. How do you know this? and at the thought that this is a true story... and that you know/heard that it is true. Damn. It was cool when I thought it was simulated. Kind of icky to think as a teenager I watched some man "beat off" onstage.

I was 14 and saw Parliment. My mom had a fit because George wore a diaper onstage.

the next year I saw Prince. She never even asked about Prince, since I really wanted to see the Time and presented the concert as a "Time" concert. But to tell you the truth, I didn't know how risque Prince was onstage. And man oh man... I was 15 watching Prince put his hands down his pants and gyrate his hips. and hump the mic stand, and the piano, and the floor, and the air. (sort of like a air guitar except I guess you could call this an air fuck.. )

and my mom to this day never knew that the Parliment concert was child's play compared to Prince.
