Her father , Papa Escovedo, also said Sheila and P were enaged. Funny thing, I don't recollect her ever wearing a ring. I'M NOT SAYING YOU'RE UGLY. YOU JUST HAVE BAD LUCK WHEN IT COMES TO MIRRORS AND SUNLIGHT!

I thought it was cool that the episode acknowledged Sheila was the musical director of the Lovesexy tour. That's pretty awesome. I remember hearing that once before (not sure where) but I wasn't sure it had been officially confirmed.

That clip was from Dutch TV show "Countdown" in 1986 (hosted by Adam Curry) when Sheila was on to promote her then current single (and Dutch top 10 hit) "Holly Rock". Apart from that she also lipsynched her other Dutch chart hits "The Glamorous Life", "Belle of St Mark" and "A Love Bizarre".

Just to add, I think as fans, many get caught up in the celebrity-ism (if such a term exist) of musicians/celebs etc., and may forget that they are just as human as we are, with human needs, and what many fans wish a musician/artist could ‘bring back’ for our own memories and voids, may not be something that is comfortable or desirable for that musician/artist, in a personal or spiritual sense-as they mature- to present themselves in the same ways they once did earlier in their lives.
When Sheila spoke about how she reached a level of stardom to the point she felt like she went ‘outside of who she really was’, she said she realized she needed to take a deeper, look inside of herself, and questioned if the image she presented of herself at the time-to her fans, other musicians/artists, and the public in general-was the image she wanted to be viewed/remembered by or taken seriously as a musician. She said she started to feel ‘empty’ or ‘naked’ inside, as she put it, and realized maybe it was time to make a change spiritually and physically, and I guess to do that and find content and personal peace, that’s exactly what she did. She also said it was her decision, to wear the type of clothing she wore during the Lovesexy/Sign of the Times era.
It’s always nice to have a musician/artist take you away from a routine life with their music and enjoy their performances, but I think many music fans forget musicans/artists, are not some fantasy they could put in their pocket take home, and wind them up like dolls, so they could take us away from our own realities, and make them do the things some desire or fantasize about them.
I agree with some though, that Sheila E's 'Unsung' show was one of the best I've seen so far that did not end on a sad note. [Edited 2/28/12 16:34pm]

I just finished watching the show as well and I absolutely loved it! Very well done and I loved the fact that her family got a lot of air time as well. The old concert footage and family pictures were great, seeing a clip from the E-Train performing at the House of Blues in LA brought back a lot of memories of being there, completely in awe of the band and Sheila. Too bad that raw energy of those live shows was never captured on CD.
Best Unsung episode yet and I agree that it was refreshing that it was one of the few that didn't get you all depressed after watching it! (the Billy Preston one was the worst in that respect IMO)
PS Funniest tidbit from the show: to hear that in "Erotic City" Prince sang "f*ck" and Sheila sang "funk" [Edited 2/28/12 14:06pm] Just like the white winged dove...

What an awesome episode. Sheila E is simply amazing. I enjoyed learning about her beginnings and about her family's musical background.
Now we know why we all feel the magic between Sheila and Prince. These two really love each other. I don't know what's going on between them now but I believe they will kiss and makeup eventually

No you need to figure out this out it is Prince message board and yes people are going to like Prince and have positive comments. You seemed a little slow to pick up on this so I was just letting you know. After all reading is not fundamental for everyone.

with sheila's family album project going on, i don't think she could jetset with prince overseas. so the ending of the california shows in may 2011 & family obligations were probably the main reason for the seperation.additionally, if they are the love's of each other's life, it wouldn't be wise 2 have sheila on stage with a new love that he was dead serious about. it wouldn't be fair or comfortable for sheila 2 watch him falling in love with some1 half her age or for his new love 2 be crushed nightly with the magic between prince & sheila knowing their history. when andy is secure in her relationship with prince or if it doesn't work out, then i think we'll see sheila with prince again especially if he comes back to california for multiple shows.

Maybe Sheila was the woman prince should have been married too because she did say they will always love each other. I wonder what princes music would sound like if they were married and working together, I think it would be great, what do you guys think? but I really hate that they're not talking I wonder what happened maybe things started goin from professional to personal again.

I believe it too sis. We all have a falling out with people we love from time to time and Sheila and Prince are human like the rest of us.
She tickled me holding up her empty ring finger...that was so cute, Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

Hi L4, Just make sure that when you call Sheila, you offer her more than just a bag of 'Skittles' candy. Okay? (j/k I just had to joke with you on that. ).
No but seriously, I agree that some, not all of the "Unsung" stories, should be at least 2 hours long. If I recall, but not sure, in the past some were only half-hour episodes. [Edited 2/28/12 21:28pm]

if u have any of the lovesexy tour rehearsals u can hear it's sheila leading the band when p wasn't around man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

Lawd, you took my joke in a totally different direction, but in all due respect, I wish Sheila well. It was definitely one of the best "Unsung" episodes that didn't end on a depressing note.

They've known each other for over 32yrs. I dont think they need to make-up or give an apology, if that chemistry, is as deep as Sheila, her Family, and Friends said. They seem very close, doubt there still mad. But seperation couldnt her them two. They've seperated before, but united in the end. Plus I like watching Sheila do her own thing right now. Now as for kissing a fan could only dream of such a thing.
Your kinda thinking low of Sheila, She is a very strong woman, and she watched him all threw her & his career hook-up w/women, even when they were together. However Sheila & Prince will Never be a couple again, Sheila stated that it doesnt work for them & there better off friends. But I do get the feeling, Sheila was the woman Prince should have married, she seems in love w/ him. But I hope somone will put a ring on that beautiful woman finger, since Prince didnt. Of course Sheila is not going to come out and say it for fear of burning a bridge that can't be repaired with Prince, but what is the one thing that so many people who have dealt with Prince, musicians and others who have done work with/for him have a falling out over or issues with? There was an "issue" over her W2A appearances. Love or Money? The answer is pretty obvious.

Oh well it's not that serious to me. I'm over it. That's their thing. I'm still going to support both in their ventures. I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

I would love to hear/see that. I remember reading that on Wiki recently wondering if that was true. She is such a great bandleader when you see her perform with her band! [Edited 2/29/12 10:25am]

It had nothing to do with money. As I understand it, Prince had asked Sheila (and possibly the Escovedo family) to appear at one of his Bay area gigs. At the last minute, he sidelined the Es in favor of Larry Graham. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.
