Maybe he should´ve shown up to see how it´s done. They played his own songs much better than he does these days. lol

That version of Mountains kicks Prince´s current version´s ass. Twice!

No seriously, I love what I´ve heard so far. It would´ve been wonderful if he had joined them, and who knows how, when or if they´ll ever have such an opportunity again but stopped expecting Prince to do anything expected or "normal" a long time ago.

It´s cool though, there seems to be no bad blood between him and them. That´s what matters.

I'm going 2 go against the grain, and say -

I am glad Prince did not pitch. If I was him, it would have been an awkward experience. He's moved on with his life, he's independent, he showed Love to Bobby while he was ill...and now, he's expected 2 get back onstage w/ a band he created and disbanded? no.

As 4 the "revolution", maximum respect 2 their skills. in this age of digital music and bimbo's claiming stages coz of flesh they expose and their fashion style, it was refreshing 2 hear the "Revolution."

But no - I say it again, I'm glad Prince did not pitch. I mean, the man is rocking his own tours - some of the songs they played r on his current setlist. 2 hv 2 force himself 2 do something because of sentimental value is not enough cause to force himself in2 a situation he does not want 2 b in.

& for those making silly comments like "they did it better than Prince," as much as we respect them, they were on a Purple platform, created by the Purple 1.

My opinion is that NO 1 can funk the purple jam like the purple 1 himself.

No justice, No peace

Reposting my thoughts/review from the associated artist forum:

-Overall: Show was hugely fun. Like old friends that you just pick up with as if no time has passed.

- Non musical highlight: the band giving a dramatic reading of their lines from Purple Rain. Revolution theater, I believe.

-Musical highlight: the Parade era material. I am not as in love with this era as some, but the band really poured it on for these songs.

-The white cloud guitar DEFINITELY was seen onstage being handled by tech people before the show. It was not Wendy's guitar. It was THE guitar. Personally, this did not raise my hopes of Prince showing up because he has not played THAT guitar style/color in years.

-Nostalgia aside, The Revolution is not as tight as any of Prince's touring bands. I love them forever, but they were a bit rusty. Don't get me wrong, they are fucking fierce still...just not in Prince shape. Forgotten lyrics and miscues abound. Anyone who tells you that they could whip Prince's current group are mistaken. They have more personality and character...which is what I went to the show for. That said...all that did was add charm and warmth. You could tell these people love each other, and they knew that we love them too.

-Lastly, the crowd skewed older than they typical Prince crowd. It seemed as if those who actually LIVED the pre and immediately post Purple Rain era were out in full force. Which makes sense. All in all, it was worth the price. Glad Bobby Z. is feeling fine.

ps. To the blondie that fainted during "Uptown", are you okay?

I know it's kind of an unavoidable discussion point about Prince showing up or not, but I really don't see any reason to be disappointed or angry. Presumably the band had his blessing to perform with the name and to perform the music he/they created after that meeting with Bobby reported in that interview, the band by all accounts kicked ass, everyone had a good time, money was raised for charity and the Revolution got to prove why they're held in such high regard. Bobby Z put together a wonderful thing!

Plus people got to see Dez rocking a trenchcoat/headband again.

Yep. They made light of the fact that Mark doesn't speak in the movie. So, he just looked at his watch and gave that "huh?" look. It was funny.

I just got back. ?uestlove was still DJing when I left but all the equipment was gone. I'd like to thank all the members of the Revolution and everyone else who worked to make this happen. It was an amazing, terrific, unforgettable concert. It gave me chills to see Wendy up there leading the group, and I also particularly enjoyed seeing the interaction between her and Dez. Unfortunately I didn't always have such a great view, so I hope the rumored DVD does actually come out.

As for Prince, what can you say? I assumed he wouldn't come until rumors started flying a few days ago that he might be here. All I can say is that if I were in Prince's current touring band, and I watched that concert, I would be nervous about my job security right now. Prince may not want to play with the Revolution for whatever reason, but if I had a choice between seeing another Revolution concert tomorrow and seeing Prince with his current flunkies, I'd defintely go see the Revolution. So there.

The charity from the beginning never stated nor advertised Prince being a part of it. It was about Bobby Z's intention to do a benefit for the AHA and show appreciation for those who supported him. The charity never required Prince's presence in orde for it to be successful. No one knows what type of monetary contribution Prince may have made to this charity, if any, regardless if he chose to not participate in the performance. He did meet with Bobby Z on a personal basis before the event, but there was never any statement from any of the Revolution members during the interview, that Prince would actually be there, although an invitation was extended to him.

On another note, I think at times, many fans compare Prince's music talent/skills with his former band members with this impression he can't make it without them, when he already has, long after the Revolution band members separated from him. I also don't see how any of them could be 'threatening' to him, music talents, when he has always been aware of their talents, and that never stopped him from pursuing his own music career in the past or in present day.

I honestly wonder if some fans just don't like to see him performing with new band members, if it's not the members of the Revolution, whereas they were never meant to be permanent band members in the first place. When he performed with them, his name stood apart from the band as "Prince and the Revolution". That right there spoke for itself. Also, he has invited Wendy & Lisa to perform on stage with him not too long ago, so if he felt threatened by their music talents, I doubt he would have invited them on stage to perform with him, years later.

I agree lol Here's a rule of thumb: Never expect Prince to do the "right thing".....the things that we really want him to do....the things that would get us all excited and make us lose our minds. If we don't expect these things,we won't be disappointed.

nod Really though. lol We should know him by now. lol

W O W . Thats was cold busted. I really don't care for all the delusional replies to this post I'm going to get about how it's up to Prince, or how dare we, the fans, or anyone for that matter, should "assume" Prince was going to perform. Your blind baby. Prince lost me after this stunt.- and yes, this was absolutely a stunt. This was disgraceful to Bobby and the entire band and the fans who were led like sheep. If it weren't for my respect for members of Revolution, I would read Prince out on all the unethical, crooked, downright awful things he's done to these people behind closed doors that would make everyone on here cringe. Shame on U, Mr. Nelson. I'm callin' the truth on this and tellin' it like it is, no more sugarcoating. Damn.

Love & Respect to the Revolution.

Prince, you never did learn how to love the right way.

Peace

The charity never advertised Prince being a part of the reunion for the charity, so I don't get how any 'fan was led like sheep' in expecting him to be there, when there was never any confirmation, from the beginning of that advertisement, that he was going to be part of that charity event at all.

I think those who were already are/were holding a personal grudge against him, is now using this opportunity that he didn't show up to this event, as an excuse to vent feelings they were already harboring, and his presence at that charity would not have changed those feelings in a snap over night. Even though it was a fact and reported, that Prince took the time to respectfully meet with Bobby Z and his wife, on a personal basis, and showing his support in that way. It was not required for him to actually be at the charity event, just because some fans wanted to have a 'glimpse' at Prince or hoping he performed. The charity event was not about Prince performing, it was about Bobby Z showing his appreciation to his supporters raising awareness based on his ordeal with heart surgery, and doing a charity event in support of the AHA, as well as some former Revolution band members, who agreed to perform for the charity, regarding Bobby Z and the AHA.

At least the good thing is, they were able to perform using the orignal band's name.

It kind of sickens me that he didn't show up. Not saddens, sickens. I've lost count of the number of songs Prince has written in praise of Jesus. But when he was offered the chance to do a work of charity--to raise money for people who are sick and suffering--he chose not to. Again.

Bobby Z did a wonderful thing putting this event together. But if Prince had gotten onboard from the beginning it could have been so much more. Prince & The Revolution: Live - One Night Only! They could have sold out the Target Center and made thousands if not hundreds of thousands of dollars for a worthy cause. Throw in a live DVD or downloadable album and you could have pushed those numbers even higher.

Prince would have done so much good by just donating a few hours of his time. But he refused. Next time I hear him sing about God, Jesus or "Love 4 One Another" I'm rolling my eyes and hitting the skip button--because he doesn't seem to understand any of it.

Oh pulease. It sold out anyway. It was for a great cause and we didn't need P to be there to draw focus away from what this was.
