The rehabilitation of Apollonia's solo album God did I use 2 hate it back then, when I had it on a cassette that I got rid of more than a decade ago.
I eventually downloaded it, out of curiosity, just 2 see what I'd think now that my musical horizons have expanded a lot...
I'm listening 2 it right now and...
Holy shit!
I think it's fucking cool!
Not in the sense of a masterpiece, don't get me wrong, but perfectly nice light dance-pop, the kind I really dig! Just like I dig Vanity's second album... Fucking great romantic and silly pop!
So, my dear Apollonia... My apologies 4 the hatred your record inspired me when I was young A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

PS: It makes me wonder what I'd now think of Bobby Z's and Good Question's albums, which I equally hated and got ridden of at the same time... but un4tunately I can't find them on ANY goddamn P2P

I guess my musical horizons haven't expanded that much, because I still can't stomach it.
That voice. I just can't take it for long periods of time.

I think Bobby Z is cheap, but it's likely that Good Question's CD is pretty rare and expensive, IDK, I'd have to check it out. I just don't wanna bother right now because this is stuff I'd probably still dislike, and also living in Cambodia means I'd have to have them delivered to someone in France and wait months before I can listen to them, but maybe one day I'll do it...
Other albums I discarted, can't find anymore and would love to hear again are St. Paul's second and third solo albums and Eddie M.'s solo albums... And I still haven't been able to put my hands on The Day-Z's album and the Kahoru Kohiruimaki albums either, but I'm quite sure I'll find all this online one day anyway... I have to admit than I kinda enjoy these kind of dance-pop records: Martika, Nia Peeples, Sheena Easton, Elisa Fiorillo, Paula Abdul... Like I said it's not the music I dig or respect the most but I find it kinda funny and enjoyable once in a while A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

Her remixes to her 3 singles which all charted top 20 on the Billboard Dance Charts use to heat up the clubs in the 80's ::::

I found a few gems on there. I would highly recommend Lushus Daim and the Pretty Vain if you don't already have it.

Well no wonder I could'nt find her ( Lushus ) anywhere , I've been spelling her first name wrong : It's Lushus not Luscious I see ::: She had a song called I'm The One You Love that I liked back in the late 80's. Apollonia's album has the same kinda sound as Paula Abdul's Forever Your Girl and Lisa Lisa & the Cult Jam. My fave is In Your Eyes, I like the oriental vibe to it. There ARE worse female singers, Geri Halliwell, Tanita Tikaram, Mel B, Emma Bunton and Kelis are just some examples.

[Edited 1/11/12 10:32am] You should checkout a song on Maya Vik's album called "Oslo Knows". It samples the one you love to great effect. In fact that whole album is great if you like funky pop.

80s R&B flashback: "The One You Love" by Lushus Daim and the Pretty Vain (1985)
Love this song! I'm surprised that it wasn't a big hit.

The video for Oslo knows by Maya Vik which samples The one you love, or you almost could say it's a cover or interpolation, is that the current term? I highly recommend the album [Edited 1/13/12 11:39am] [Edited 1/13/12 11:43am]

A couple of listenable tracks but some really bad stuff on there. I'm going from memory. I should maybe revisit but I'm sure it will still mostly horrid, and I love 1980's funk pop.

Just listened again to Bobby Z.. Not as bad as I remembered either. Kind of sounds like a follow-up to Bryan Ferry's Boys And Girls (1985) and Bête Noire (1987), 2 great albums I wasn't familiar with before I got rid of Bobby Z. 10 years ago. I appreciate the delicate, aristocratic approach Ferry takes on these 2, and obviously Bobby Z. liked it so much that he tried to emulate it, not without a certain success.
I found the Day-Z's and Good Question as well, thanks to Romeoblu's suggestion. I was a lucky bastard because I got the 3 of them just a few days before Megaupload was shut down!!!

I agree that Bobby Z reminds me of Bryan Ferry, especially some of the vocals. Glad I'm not the only one who thought so!
Apollonia's album sounds a little bit more "Euro" dance compared to Paula Abdul, IMO.
