It's SO far from being a masterpiece. I reckon this tour won't happen too.

do people still care about Dangelo? I mentioned it to my buddy who USED to be a die hard Dangelo fan and he didnt care about this at all. It just made me start wondering if people really even care about him anymore. I suspect this will be another flop like the 07 also but good luck Jesse. Glad to see him working and not waiting around for a group of high egos that think they are bigger than what they are in the Time

I'm a D'Angelo fan but his new stuff would have to be pretty amazing to compensate for not having released new music in 12 years.

Bullshit, D'Angelo shows are recently sold out in Stockholm after about 3 minutes, and the sales are doing good in most other contries in the tour. D'Angelo will visit Sweden, Norway, Netherlands, Denmark, UK... I doub't this will be a flop. And D'Angelo when he released Voodoo was alot bigger than The Time has ever been, even though they have done alot more party oriented populist music to please the crowd in a dumbed down way. D'Angelo has worked with Eric Clapton, Pino Palladino, David Sanborn, Questlove, J Dilla, Dr Dre, Q Tip, Common etc etc... what else does he have to prove his talent? He is still relevant for changing the game in the 90s/00s. Been working on the low for the last years. Just appearing on a few hooks here and there. But I'm quite sure he will deliver now smile

I was exaggerating quite a bit. I love the Time. But I just feel people are favoring their every move just because they're from the early Paisley camp. But I really don't get the D'Angelo hate on this site. If one is really listening to Voodoo, one can clearly hear at least amazing musicianship and great vocals, on top of that a laid back sound that I bet many Prince fans was waiting for by Prince. It didn't have many stand out tracks (as in easy listening pop songs) though, cause the album is more like one fantastic groove with a few very great songs. Other than his posing on videos and cover art, this music is so far away from being comercial, that it must be something else making people love it. Dangelo is doing underground jazzy soul funk music, but crossing over to a wider audience with help from fantastic musicians, production and some fine sound engineering. I must admit that the first listen for me, it sounded a bit like the vocals was too lazy for me, and that the music was too laidback. Kinda the same feel I had about alot of jazz back when I was younger. But it had to grow on me.

I dig D'Angelo , but only hope his troubles is behind him : He's a great artist but is not the most reliable artist when keeping a touring schedule or appearances :::

Good luck to Jesse if that's where he feels more comfortable but can't think of Original 7ven without Jesse : Good luck to them all ::::

Get real. Jesse Johnson didn't leave The Time to do a week long tour with d'angelo in Europe. I don't know for sure of course but it would be safe to say he was unhappy with The original 7ven thing and the offer with d'angelo was a good opportunity that provided him with a decent pay packet for a minute!

Do we know which track it was yet? A track from the upcoming album?

Cheers

i don`t know for sure, but most likely it will be the track "blackhole sun"

(a cover of the tune by soundgarden).

it leaked a while ago, but created a lot of buzz the past days. it was recorded

in 2003 at d´angelo´s house. i heard it`s NOT on the new album, but we`ll see

if that is true. you`ll find this song on youtube.

Thanks Tony. I have got 'blackhole sun' now, quite interesting. Hope the new album contains funky songs like '1000 deaths'. Would make sense if the album was released in conjunction with this mini-tour but it does not seem like it at the moment.

Thanks

Honestly Jesse did the right thing. The Time are nobodies realistically. I like them but I like Prince too and both of their careers are over. At least with D'angelo he has a chance if he is as big as everyone on here says. I wont buy it because I hate R&B but I think from a business perspective Jesse did right. He wont be going anywhere with The Time because that project came and went already and flopped. At least this Dangelo guy will have a label push(or least it sounds like from what you guys say). Good luck to you Jesse. I hope you make the money you seek.

The Time performing on recent shows such as the Grammy's and Soul Train Awards, being often interviewed lately, getting a recent & expanded tv-special, and Prince's sucessful tour of last year in the US, Europe and Canada, all prove otherwise. "Nobodies" is a tired excuse to fit someone's point of view.

I kind of figured you were talking about Angie Stone but the truth is she was already in the biz long before DAngelo hit the scene.

She was already a star in the making. She was a critically acclaimed artist with

Vertical Hold before becoming a solo artist.

I didn't know Hamilton sung with him and i don't even know who Shelby J is.

D'Angelo didn't "make" anyone a "star". It's not like they blew up because of an association with him. Hell, NO ONE knows who Shelby is outside of hardcore Prince fans. And as you said, PD, Angie was already well on her way before D'Angelo debuted.
