Am I the only one who thinks Andy Allo is so so ??? Not that I want to make any enemies, but I've seen her in Montreal and .... she's not that good.
Ok, she can play guitar well, but she can't sing !!! What's Prince's big fuss with her ??? Chatou

Could be ... But she's part of the band these days, no? Chatou

Seeing her recently in Halifax I actually had the exact opposite impression of her. She is an adequate, though far from exceptional, singer but a very poor guitarist.

that is very funny

Andy Allo is SEXY and nothing else matters...Haha
JK
Well she has a unique voice, her guitar playing NEEDS much work, but she compliments Prince. IMO. The performance of her & Prince "Take Me With U" uploaded recently on her FB page was incredible. They have such a unique union. Also her version of "We Can Funk" NOW "Oui Can Luv" is just awesome. I'm sure Prince is on the guitar of this song. BUT It's so good!
She's just sexy to me, that is the only thing coming to me! One of his better looking protegge's. Haha
Look at their chemistry: It's Button Therapy, Baby!

On the first NORTH SEA JAZZ night, they opened with Andy singing Jimi's FOXY LADY. Prince walked on stage playing his guitar to pieces.
That was the best thing I've seen the band do with any of the ladies singing.

I like her voice. Her Princely renditions of "Love Is A Losing Game" and "We Can Luv" on her facebook are beautiful. I'm not sold on her as a guitarist yet... [Edited 12/22/11 16:44pm] Toejam @ Peach & Black Podcast: http://peachandblack.podbean.com

I agree with most of this. While she is cute, when I saw her in concert it was not memorable. I think it has a lot to do with her being out of her element and Prince trying to turn her into a funk version of Betty Davis. Is any one else seeing this? I very much enjoyed her renditions she did but her image and energy doesnt match her songs anymore. It went from more natural to globs of make up and the high funk energy, which I dont think comes natural to her. She is more neo soul.

That's not even a picture of them but two separate pictures put next each other. I don't see any chemistry in this, sorry. They are both holding their hands in the same way. and Prince looks rather sad ...
I think she is starting to get from natural to "made" lately, which is not exactly a good path for her, or at least not something that will last for long. She is having too much make-up on, and shiny, glamorous clothing, not wearing normal loose pants and shirts as she used to when we saw her in previous footages. She is not herself and she thinks this is good for her, now...

Are you bloody serious? Actually, it's the exact other way round. She's a skillful singer (even though you might not like her style of singing, she hits the notes and knows what she's doing with her voice), but can't play the guitar at all.

Exactly. And I actually like her singing style, her voice sounds kinda fragile, I like that. Even though her singing did not add anything for me to the Budapest show that I saw. Her singing style doesn't really fit for big arena shows a lot IMO. With a very special thank you to Tina: Is hammer already absolute, how much some people verändern...ICH hope is never so I will be! ITA! I Think Andy is a beautiful woman - even without all the Prince-enforced, sexed-up dress code! I think she had only been playing the guitar for like a year or so for her first album, so I won't judge her as much there. She's learning. However, I liked her as an artist MUCH better before she hooked up with Prince. Her style was much more organic and yes neo soul. I even saw that one of her major influences was Erykah Badu. However, Prince is such a control freak, he's giving her the Prince brand instead of helping her refine her own.

I also really liked her version of We Can Funk, but again, I think that's more in the vein of her own style/interpretation than everything Prince has her doing in the live performances which in my opinion goes against the grain of the artist I thought she was.

I agree i've seen footage where she has a microphone and is singing in it but she's soooo shadowed by the back up singers and Prince Oh and did we ever figure out why we can never hear her play guitar on stage?

I like her. And nor because she's associated with Prince.
I rather prefer her solo efforts and Urban Street- Soul Princess vibe vs. this sideman thing she's doing with Prince. Every time I've seen anything she's done in the context of being associated with Prince I've found it to be generic and lackluster, not unlike any of his other protegee/ f**kbuddies. I mentioned on another thread about Allo that I hope she makes that tour $ rides the association for all it's worth PR wise, then gets on a horse and gets the hell out of Prince town as soon as it's feasible. She has a lovely organic quality to what she does that does not to be tainted by the Prince Mystique, and I believe that he's only going to be an asset to her career for so long, before he's completely made her over into something completely different and becomes a liability to her long term possibilities.
This right here, is something I could rock with for a minute. Her stuff with Prince, complete with the matching fringe stage costumes befitting a Vegas road show...not so much.
