Like I said in my earlier post: Duke leaves a legendary band to go tour with someone who might or might not even show the fuck up! But I'm not surprised considering he did work with Sly Stone at one point.

Big mistake D'Angelo can't even seem to get his new album finished.Something tells me that his tour will probably have problems too.

Michael Archer is putting his album out in 2030. By then, Jesse would probably not be able to churn much less strum or play his guitar by then and D'Angelo would be so old too that he could hardly get out of his piano bench...

I'm sure when anyone refers to wanting to be the next version of their heroes they mean at the top of their game....not a rock bottom

Sorry, but D'Angelos Voodoo was better than all of The Time albums. D'angelo did get some help, but did have a helluva lot more musical and creative input on his own music than The Time did. And The Time is basically either covering Prince most basic rnb funk songs that he didn't want on his own albums, while D'Angelo togethere with a few other acts defined the 90s/00s era of soul music.

Voodoo is mentioned as a modern classic in history books, while The Time is mentioned as one of Princes alter egos.

I love the two first albums of The Time, but first of all they were prince songs, not The Time. Next thing, they were imo great party jams with catchy lyrics thrown on top with swag. Voodoo has alot more dimensions to it and covers more than the funky fun of The Time, which is basically good throw aways of Prince, Dirty Mind and 1999. Prince thought it was fun to make jamming funk songs on the side, but knew it wasn't sounding ground braking enough for his own albums when he started discovering new styles. Actually, I listen to The Time albums more than D'Angelo because I'm studying the brilliance in Prince funk. His way of thinking. But from an objective point of view these albums are just fun listen with some sophisticated instrumental breaks here and there. Voodoo was a great album imo all the way.

And lets not forget as I mentioned that he was trying to be Prince what with the How Does It Feel tribute, the drum tack used from Parade on Africa etc...all revelaed by 2uestlove. AND lets not forget that this relase took everytghing out of Dangelo even though it wasnt too much there in retrospect. Prince Time albums put Voodoo to fucking shame in all aspects. oh well, we got different opinions. No reason to fight over it. If I really wanted to be gay and fuck D'Angelo, then why would I subjectivly choose to listen to The Time more than I listen to D'Angelo. I think both Tom Waits and Joni Mitchell is far better than The Time, but I still listen more to The Time. This is mostly because funk is in my soul, and I love the attitude given by Prince on Jamie Starr funk like DMSR, Lets Work, Head etc... Prince had several songs that sounded pretty much the same for himself, vanity 6 and The Time. and even though D'Angelo sounds quite a bit like a combination of Curtis Mayfield, Marving Gaye and Prince, he is still D'Angelo, and has done alot for the modern soul movement recieving great reviews, and reintroducing fantastic organic sound of real instruments in a time where music sounds cold as the south pole. Personally D'Angelo moves me more than The Time, but The Time gets more attention from me 95% based on the instrumental "jam" and break parts and 5% based on the whole image and dance routines etc, haha. It's just good old fun. And the beat is always easy to follow. I love how Voodoo has a very laid back drum beat on many of the songs, in a style that I've never heard done on any Prince songs. actually D'Angelo managed to make an album that I was hoping Prince would do. Nothing wrong with that. Prince is rarely being as behind the beat... he is more right on like Larry Graham. So imo D'angelo provided something that was missing.

But it takes a little while to get into for some, as it might feel a little slow on first listen.

Do not agree. VoodOo is over-hyped.

VERY much so and I 've said so when it first released. To me it was a huge let down, listened to it a few times and sold it to a used record store.

Voodoo really wasn't a favorite of mine either, not even close.
