i'd love to type a review...however this is my first time so hopefully its not too much or too little. feel free to ask about anything that i may have left out.
i've seen sheila perform 7 or 8 times before and this show was very different from those before, in that, she had a dj spinning before, after, and during wardrobe changes....thats right, wardrobe changes! 3 of em.
first outfit being very typical for her now days...a sexy sparkly type dress with leggings and 6" (maybe higher?) heels. she also entered in a cape. then she busted out a vintage jacket and thigh high boots from the romance era (pointing out that "yes, i can still fit it"). her hair was long and curly for both of these looks -- then she pulled out the wig worn in the photo above (i was hoping it was actually a new hair cut) to top off the painted on white sequins dress that she wore for the finale......oh, can't forget....she also wore a long fur coat of mink (or something, lol)
if i remember correctly she opened the show with love bizzare, followed by olivers house, then holly rock.....from the e family cd, nothing without you, and of course, i like it!!! zina came up in a teeny tiny skirt that peter michael joked around and covered up with a towel.....she sang the "blue skys.....sunrise...." part. peter & juan performed... pops came up later on for a quick jam. lynn mabry made a quick appearance too! background vocals by sy smith....the rest of the band was her same band. ledisi came out and sang.... as did karl 'something' from santana.....another woman (keyboardist) from sheilas original band long long ago. i can't remember her name, sorry. glamorous life (officially) closed the show.....although they also broke out into other old school jams here and there...wait for it...WHEN DOVES CRY!!!!! Accapella, on the beat box drum, then the dj hooked it up. Erotic city instrumental also happened. Man, what a good night!.
several times the audience was invited up to dance.....one guy got really wild and nearly knocked into sheilas timbales in which she kindly escorted him off stage.
i don't know what else to say really......it was a phenomenal night and definitely in my top couple of shows. it was just really chill and fun and laid back!! lots of crowd interaction. the dance floor was cleared and people were given the option of seated tickets or dance floor tickets....i was on the dance floor since it allowed me to get right up close!
like i said....ask away if there was anything else. it was a great night!! [Edited 12/14/11 19:50pm] [Edited 12/15/11 3:30am] | |

Here is my recap. Karl P was in the original Sheila E band as well as Susie Davis.
Love Bizarre (entrance in Sister Fate cape!). After the breakdown, very laid back, jazzy feeling, letting the band take solos. Can't remember if Lynn came up during this or later but naturally when she did her improvs in her rich voice it blew the roof off! Oliver's House (great arrangement with hot synth Horns!) Nothing Without You I Like It (with Peter Michael on lead vocals, Juan in drums, and Zina(!) on background vox) Costume change (maybe the Dj d school dancing set now). Peter Michael does all the dances to Poison, Stop the Love You Save. Hot!) Entrance in hot pink version of Romance 1600 coat and matching thigh high stiletto boots ("For 20 thousand I BETTA still be wearing it!") Holly Rock with Oakland Stroke extension including the dance. I'm not sure but I think this is when she went to the percussion box on the floor (I forget what it's called) and she and Peter Michael jammed on percussion. At some point they were doing the beat to When Doves Cry and the DJ mixed in the record and the band also played. Now maybe this when she called up Karl Palazzo (sp?) from the PR Tour band and Santanna drummer and eventually her dad and Juan and Susie Davis from the PR tour (keys) and they all jammed culminating in a cool bit where all the Escovedos took turns doing timbale solos while walking in a circle. At some point the band did a bit of Erotic City (no vocals) I feel like I'm forgetting something. Maybe they brought the cake up now? And Ledisi sang Happy Birthday to Sheila but I forget when that happened. Probably more Dj stuff. Then Sheila comes back out onstage in white dress and white fur coat draped over her ("bring me the White one... The white one!". She didn't say that really). And sporting a short hairdo like in the promo poster. Y'all have seen the pic by now. Hot! She did a great version of The Glamorous Life and an encore of America. I had to leave to pick up my car since the garage was closing. I don't know what happened next. I did get one of the original PR tour t shirts so I was happy! Btw I caught her drumstick when she threw it in the audience. But then someone literally stole it out of my hand a few seconds later. Not very cool whoever did that but I hope you enjoy it since you wanted it that badly. (trying to let go of negativity here!) I'm so happy I got a t short since I probably couldn't afford back in 1984 when I first saw Ms. E and Prince live which literally changed my life and encouraged me to play music. All in all Sheila managed to top even her last concert which seems impossible. And bringing out the old Marie France costumes was BRILLIANT!!! "for the nostalgia" as Mariah would say. I saw Sheila at Yoshi's SF twice last year. Ya'll who go should have a ball. "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

You're welcome! Yours was great too. It's Karl Perazzo btw I had it spelled wrong. He was in the original Sheila E band and plays for Santanna now.
