The original 7 (The Time) on Soul Train Awards

Prince has a reason to fear The Time now and back in the 80's. If anybody saw the Soul Train Awards will know what I am talking about. These brothas at 50+ years old are still rocking the house. Much deserved standing ovation at the awards show. As much as I love Prince, he is not rocking the house like The Time. The last time might have been the SuperBowl in 2007 and even then his Purple Rain solo was a little fucked up. SO Prince look at The Time for inspiration. Peace.

You mean Bon Jovi and U2. lol

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Sorry Friend that performance was the highlight of the awards show. They had the old timers ( Gladys Knight and the Pips, Earth, Wind and Fire and Bootsy) standing up and rocking their asses of. Those older artists aren't going to get up and rockit for some sad sack group. Notice there indifference with the other performers on the show. The Time are the real deal. Prince even said himself he was scared of them. He has reason those boys are bad!!!!!

Seriously???!!! I love The Time and their live performance is great but the same songs from 4 albums of material couldn't be that difficult to master and manipulate by a group of musicians whose talent far exceeds those songs. Condensate is a disappointment because of this; with some much talent in that band that album is so thin. Prince had reason to be scarred with The Revolution; they didn't have the soul and fluidity of The Time; they were kinda stiff and very much by the numbers, so to speak. The SOTT band and all incarnations of the NPG were all better than the The Time. These bands had alot more range, could go to many other places musically and were tight. With these bands Prince had the ability to explore jazz, improvisation and many other styles as well as further explore and develop depth with the funk, rock, soul and blues he had already played. He also worked with, wrote, arranged and produced for and performed with a variety of band configurations, which further developed his talent as well as the particular band he was playing with at the time. Prince draws from a catalog spanning over 30 years and possesses the ability to rearrange any and every song in his catalog live at any given moment. I thnk it's safe to say that at this point in the game, the only thing Prince should fear is himself. Again, The Time is tight but their catalog, as a band, is limited and Morris' persona further limits the production and writing abilities of Jam, Lewis, Moir and Jesse Johnson. Truth be told they could probably go more places with Alexander O'Neal but that's another thread entirely. The Time is great but Prince is on another level entirely at this point and The Time, as evidenced by Condensate is FAR from being a threat to Prince.

the difference is that Prince is still around(sort of) and The Time(Original 7) have already broken up. I guess Prince has nothing to fear anymore as they couldn't even get a tour off the ground before disbanding.

Did The Time, Vanity 6, Vanity or Sheila E win any Soul Train Awards in the 80's? Just curious.
