Gigolos Get Lonely Too Appreciation

I've always loved this song from the first time hearing it as a kid lol Contrary to Rumors Gigolos Get Lonely Too music The Time did a great job with this one! Almost thirty years later it still sounds great and just as smooth as ever pimp

I always thought this was the song that finally came between Prince and The Time. On the 1999 tour, the boys levitated to a high level of coolness-bringing a girl up on stage, setting up a table, ect-that Prince simply couldn't match with International Lover.

since Run & Them were saying "Here we go"

That was a fun song, very apropos for the money loving, soap-opera drenched 1980's. Morris Day was such a character!

Good lord man he wrote the damm song. The issues between this group were not about one song.

Yeah but the performance!
You know this is not the first time that Prince has wrote a hit song and someone else did a "fan's favorite" better job then Prince.

I feel for you ; no one compares to you ; much of the Time's releases

The Time really dud put on a tight high energy show.
Prince's set had some flat moments. Like the way international lover was an extended version and there were parts of that performance even with prince in that oversized bed that was a little slow. You could get distracted during that selection
Idont recall any of the Time's set that was slow. It was like "ready! Set! Go!"
And they didn't stop until the set was over. High energy dancing the entire act while skillfully playing their instruments
Reminded me of the good hip black high school / college marching bands

That was such a good concert tour

Here's a story...

For those that remember, Morris would leave the stage (to slip into something more comfortable) and Jerome would pick a girl from the crowd. Morris would return and say she wasnt good enough and have Jerome "throw her back" and pick another.

The reason I bring it up is because at San Diego's Street Scene concert in 1994 or 1995, we went in a big group to see Zapp and Morris. We all got separated and my cousin Donna was the first girl Jerome picked. Me and my cousin Mark (Donna's brother) were screaming "Noooo!" because we knew what was coming. Donna was clueless and Morris threw her back. A few guys standing around us starting screaming "Hell yeah...throw that ugly bitch back!"

Of course, my cousin and I were "detained" that night after kicking some serious ass. Boy my wife was PISSED.

wow, that was cold. I ALWAYS thought that the first girl was a planned decoy... relative, groupie, roadie etc. I didn't think they did that to a real audience member.

wow.

I have to agree. and it surprises me. Because I always think that the writer can ALWAYS sing/perforrm the song as well.

But imagining Prince doing that song. I love his high falsetto notes... the screams, etc. But that song is best when song "coolly", Prince is high passion... but never I would call him "cool".

And the lyrics.... "gigolo" brings to my mind someone who is cool, in control of his emotions, and you will never see him hurt, scream or cry. And those are common themes in Prince's performance of love songs.

so you are right... MORRIS singing that song is what makes it work.

Disagree Prince is the king of ballads and can make any ballad his own. Especially one he created himself. He doesn't always scream and sing in falsetto in all his ballads. R u even a Prince fan? I agree Morris does make this song his own. But it was written for him to sing. But don't say Prince wouldn't have made it better. All his ballads are killers..

I'm sure he will eventually. He has been adding The Time classic songs to his setlist one by one. As if to say I wrote these and these are my songs. Which he has every right to. He was the sole creator of these masterpieces. I believe he gave The Time his best protege songs. Besides Sheila E.

I wouldn't be surprised if he added more Time songs into his set either, because he can play a lot of those songs without much editing to fit his religious beliefs. I still suspect that this sudden interest in playing Time songs is more of a business decision than a creative one, but I can remember there was a time when I would have killed to hear Prince play those songs, so more power to him. I still don't think he performs Time songs as well as O7, but in fairness to him his version of "Cool" is sounding better than it used to.

The majority of his SIGNATURE ballads are sung with high passion. Not cool, or controlled. That is so not like Prince.

It is okay to disagree with my opinion. But to ask if I am a fan is a silly question. I would not be on this site if I wasn't. talk to the hand
