Condensate or Gaslight So now that both have been our for sometime, which one is ur fave?
Plz don't flame and stay respectful towards the artists.
My fave is definitely Gaslight so far. It really reminds me the original 3 W&L albums, and it's full of soul and very poetic. As much as i love The Time/O7, Condensate sounds a bit... empty to me. It's cool but it lacks... idk, whatever makes music deep, and I don't find it THAT MUCH funky. It might grow on me with time, though, so it's not like it's a definitive statement.
So, The Original 7ven Vs. fDeluxe: take a stand, radical man! A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

I really like the fDeluxe album, but the O7 wins this match for me. It's funkier and more fun! RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

Gaslight for me. Shows more growth, takes chances and is more engaging to me. Condensate is funk by the numbers but still a good CD, 4 of the tracks need to be recalled though. When go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all up in the house but when log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

Condensate easily, but I'm the biggest Time fan on the planet. Gaslight is more consistient meaning there isn't anything I dislike on it, but there is nothing I trully love and can't get out of my head like a couple of tracks on Condensate. Both great abums though

Condensate all the way.

Gaslight has the O7 beat. I really HATE to say that(no disrespect to FDeluxe), but i had high hopes for both projects and Gaslight was the only one to deliver. Gaslight has SO MUCH depth and maturity and takes a very slight glance back but takes considerable steps forward. Strong writing, production, arrangement and musicianship. Just a solid project. Last, it is very "live band" oriented. O7 lack the "live band" dynamic in a major way. Considering how much talent resides within O7, i just KNEW they would at least kick it live in studio and bring more depth and vision to the musical picture they were painting. Morris and his persona however kinda hinder the depth and vision that Monte, Jesse, Jimmy,Terry and Jellybean are capable of creating. NO DISRESPECT to Morris; he is great at what he does and the project is very fun, but if you listen to Jesse's album, Monte's production or Jam and Lewis' production and writing for other artists you will have pretty high expectations. Morris' persona tends to be a pretty narrow conduit. On the positive side I believe the live shows O7 will do will be incredible; they are and always will be a tight live band and I look forward to the live renditions of the new material. Last, i hope they continue to record and release albums. If i were Prince i'd be proud of the long life these concepts/side projects have had and the fact that the musicians have been able to support the legacy of the respective bands and independently build on that legacy.

^ anthonyspeaks a very fair assessment too. I hadn't really looked at it that way with concerns to the bands/Morris' persona being somewhat of a narrowing influence for the talent on display in the band, but I agree completely.
Couldn't say it more succinctly myself, but not being very succinct, I will go on to say: Gaslight was a complete knockout and album of the year for me. I'm still listening to it regularly, it flows brilliantly, there's a maturity and depth that was a welcome surprised to me. If, as a hugely talented and season artist of his stature and age, Prince ever stopped pretending to do those kind of 'in the club' tracks and made a record of a similar relaxed and mature stance, I'd shit twice and die. Lotusflow3r was not far off I'd say; nice pair of shoes, but it trod in something called MPLSound on the way to the market, peeeee-yeewwwww!
Condensate is OK for what it is, but nothing that wasn't expected and it does underperform at times - I think they stretched themselves a little too thin with 16 tracks or whatever it was.
I will say, I know the majority here feel the complete opposite, which is fine, I understand the deal there. I keep reading reviews intimiating that people are missing that 'Mutiny' moment on Gaslight. It definately does not have a 'Mutiny' - which is not a problem for me - but it's clear when the Condensate thread is double digits and Gaslight thread is 4 pages or something that Condensate is the favoured of the two here.

Gaslight ultimately. I love cranking the O7 cd in my car...LOUD. But I tend to listen to Gaslight at home at work AND in the car. Haven't istened to O7 outside the car. Not a knock aginst the O7 cd. I still REALLY like it, but it gets less spins in a variety of places. Also I want to see another Fdeluxe cd soon since I'd love to see how they grow their sound, I can let Condensate be the representation of these guys for a while since I think it is what they do as a band...I couldn't imagine them not going for this sound unless they let Jesse handle vocals on some of the tracks.

Both albums were far better than I expected. I also got both within a few days of each other. My first reaction was Condensate was the more enjoyable, but I would now pick Gaslight. Gaslight sounds like the album I would like from Wendy and Lisa, I was very disappointed with Girl bros/White flags. I think Eric is sublime on it.

I'm a far, far bigger Time fan than I am The Family.
But.... I think Gaslight is a better album than Condensate. |

Condensate, Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

Gaslight sounds like they all brought their experiences over the years to the studio and made a record. Condensate sounds like several of them are holding back on what they've done since the last record. Jesse especially. When go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all up in the house but when log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

Man, what a tough call.
Right now, I am going to say Condensate, as I can't seem to stop playing it. It a FONKY party album...one I have been waiting for from Minneapolis for a LONG time. One Step and Toast to the Party Girl are two of the most rockin tracks I have heard from anyone in awhile.
HOWEVER...I LOVE Gaslight as well...a truly exceptional album. Over the Canyon and @8 are my faves but I love the whole thing. I agree that its the W&L album they never made...better than White Flags and Girl Bros. I love both of those albums , but they are missing the funk, which Gaslight has in droves (Hello Eric Leeds & Jellybean!).
But idea...these two bands need to get on the road together. Can you imagine? Would be one hell of a show!.

Condensate. I wish The Family, oops F Deluxe well, but it's Condensate for me, hands down.
