What's with you guys? He is a wonderful keyboard player--at least he doesn't noodle around like Prince does on keys--he plays the damned thing, like on Elixir from Montreux.

He certainly outplays both Fink and Tommy Booberella.

You can do a simple search here on the org. There are so many that say that he puts them to sleep.

I do like Renato and havent heard any hate on him.

I don't care much for his "vegas style" playing. He's a talented player but he bores me. I don't hear much personality in his playing, just technical proficiency.

Renato is great, actually probably too good for a Prince band, where less is usually more.

I've never heard Doctor Fink ever do any great solos. Obviously Prince likes Renato, since he tends to avoid playing the keys himself.

Prince is 53 years old. Good that he has a more mature sound thanks to Renato. I just hope to hell he is not banging Allo.

Uhm, what about the synth solo on "Head"?!?!? That is a pretty great solo if you ask me. Much more exciting than most of Renato's noodling IMO.

U should look up some of Fink's work (with and without Prince). He is an excellent keyboardist. He has a Prince cover band and he plays a KILLER solo on "Head" and "When Doves Cry."

Renato is talented, but a boring Las Vegas act like some has mentioned earlier. It's technical stuff that is supposed to give you some sort of feeling that I don't get.

Watch the Head solo from Livesexy. He is mostly playing with that switch to make it seem more complex. He uses one hand and only has to play a few keys, not loads of keys like Renato.

There isn't really any "hate", just styles clashing. He seems like a "hired gun" rather than part of a band. He's a very talented musician. It just seems like he would do better playing behind Michael Bublé or somebody rather than Prince. I would say this is also the case for John Blackwell (and I love his playing). Its kinda been true for most of the line up Prince has had since Larry came along. I'm not saying they are connected; I'm just saying that Prince's choices in musicians seems to have changed.

I think that 'hate' is a big word, but i notice some people on here indeed not being very fond of him.

My issue with that is, that part of the dislike seems to have to do with his looks and (lack of?) charisma. I mean: people here are calling him too old (while he indeed is a lot younger then Prince) and find him 'boring' for some reason.

I havent seen him live myself, but judging from the video's i have seen of him, this man really can play. And i also have seen some great, funky solo's by him. He shows definitely more 'edge' then the unanynomous Vegas player some people make him out for.

And was Dr. Fink really that much of a 'personality'? I mean, after he did take his surgeons gown of i was seeing a rather every day life looking car-salesman... lol
