You wont regret spending money on this .... The album is the bomb! She's not only an excellent bass-player, actually I am very surprised how good she's doing the vocals on here ....To me, this release is as important as those of Fdeluxe and The Original 7ven ... some 34 minutes of superb Funk magic ... Larry, Jesse, watch out!

Ummm... no it isn't... she's only been down with Prince for like 5 minutes. She is the strongest member though of what I consider to be Prince's worst band ever. So I'ma check it out. If it's good I'll come back here and eat a slice of humble pie.

So far it sounds like some fake-azz Neneh Cherry tracks.... Still listening though.

Ok it's not that bad. Weak songwriting, heavy handed pitch correction in some places, but it's good for a self-produced record. It's real music, she has a fun attitude and everybody likes a horny talking pretty girl who can play bass. So... I'm buying a copy. biggrin

Well, I dont care much about the lyrics since my first language is not English but I know that I like my music raw, funky and with lots of handmade bass, some may say it's old school funk, tho it does not sound old fashioned to my ears. And for sure Ida may not live up to the history of some Fdeluxe or Original 7ven, musically in any case ...

John B - weak??? In what reality?

Morris? - he knows Prince better than any of them, and what sounds he wants, not weak at all

Cassie - maybe you havent heard her play live, but to me, she's proved her chops and THEN some. She's played things I think better than what Renato could do, and plus she has a great voice.

The girls, when they're singing together sound like heaven. He's never had backup singers that harmonized as well as they do, my only complaint is when Shelby takes the mic solo. She sounds better with the rest of the girls.

How anyone could say this line up is worse than Josh, Cora & And Twins is completely beyond me.

Change it one more time..

Whoah, pump your breaks kid, you are going too far. When Prince has enough faith that he can do shows with ONLY John and Ida as he did with Josh and Cora, then we can debate that.

Question. When Josh & Cora had been playing with P for over two years but he wanted to put on REAL shows in Montreaux where were they??? Thats right, he dumped them in a heartbeat and brought in a lineup he had real faith in.

It doesn't take much faith to put someone on for an aftershow. He lets lots of stuff go down in aftershows that he doesn't in main performances.

I'm not saying theyre not talented, but Cora was and never will be anywhere near John's league and Josh can hold his own, but Ida's much more well rounded on the bass than Josh, as well as being able to hold her own with composition and arrangements. The woman studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Music for christ sakes. Sorry, but no, I doubt there's any doubt in Prince's mind whatsoever who he has more confidence in as musicians.

Change it one more time..

To sum it up: They don't play well together. You are absolutely right about Cassie. She's good. But the group, from the boots I've seen, the final results are mostly dreary. There are some songs when they really play well. But other songs where GOD only knows what they are up to. They play so many covers though and then Prince wants them to play practicaly any song from his entire catalog on a moments notice, it just may be that they don't have all the material well rehearsed.

I lived in Helsingor, Denmark. The Royal Danish Academy of Misic ain't Juliard. It ain't even Berkely. That is not denegrating Ida's skills at all,she has mad skills and some nasty chops, and I am a big fan for years. BUT even she will tell you she has respect for Josh Dunham as a bass player. Get off this fan site and go to a musicians site and you will see where they rank in the industry among their peers. Look at their body of work outside of Prince. Josh was famous before Prince. Ida is famous because of Prince.

Oh I certainly wasnt saying its Julliard, Berklee or the New England Conservatory. That goes without saying. I'm saying two things, one she's well rounded as a bassist and 2) moreso than Josh. Read any of my posts during the time they were part of the band and any would should you that I liked both of their playing and defended them here on many occasions, but no, Josh wasn't well known before Prince. He wasn't even well sought after at all. And the only reason he played with Prince was because of Cora. Thats just a fact. But after he joined he proved that he could hold his own with Prince. He deserves all the props in the world for that. But thats a different discussion.

Really not trying to derail this thread, it is about Ida and her new album. (Best Wishes) But your statements are just wrong. Was not sought out by whom? Josh Dunham toured and recorded with Pattie Labelle and Joe Sample among others, and Darryl Jones called him personally to cover for him on the Rolling Stones tour for a few shows. Because you were not aware of him before Prince, does not mean that he was created by Prince. For session bass players, this is the norm. You take a pay cut to play with Prince. Everybody knows that. For some, it is worth it in terms of exposure, experience, and the other intangibles. For others, it is not. For example, Randy Jackson was largely unknown in the gen pop until American Idol. But the man has had a hand in selling over 200,000,000 records. Pop quiz, who is LaMarquis Jefferson?(No google, that is cheating) It is all show business, but not everyone is out front. But then again, isn't that the nature of the bass player anyway, hahaha.

Well, please dont mind me, but when I signed in here about 6 months ago, I truly believed P fans are kind of cool and openminded .... Since then I had to learn the hard way that this place is nor better or worse than any other, you are surrounded by lots of hateress, arrogance and intolerance ... Sometimes this leaves you frustrated, like life itself, but then you have to fight it, because turning around and walking away wont make it any better.

Cause we care about the music only, and Prince cares for it too, he doesn't care for fans. It's very easy.

A studio musician for Patti & Joe Sample. Really impressive. confused lol.. However you wanna spin it, Cora's the breadwinner in that relationship and that's been the case for a long time. End of story.

Anyway, I've just streamed her album and I'm digging it so far. I wonder how it compares to Rhonda's album, I never picked that one up.

How the hell do I respond to that? You just mean.....

I like it better than Ronda's. It is a lot more playful and fun, although Rhonda has a more traditional tone through most of album. Which leads me to the question, the both play Fenders, but Ida has modded hers with what looks like a Darkstar bridge pick up. Prince must like the sound, because I saw in a recent photo he has his modded the same way.

My bad. Wasnt my intention to say anything in a mean-spirited way. I guess Im just a little opinionated.

I'd pick this album up if I hadn't already purchased Meshel's album last week. One bassist/songwriters album a month is enough for me for the time being.

I'm the opposite.

I have both of Rhonda's albums and love them. music

I think I need to listen to Ida's a few more times... I was highly disappointed. neutral

Yes, but that's alright with me considering that she's a bass-player and not a trained singer ... And I dont listen closely to the lyrics, English is not my native language so I dont mind but I do understand that it's kind of nasty, isnt it? .... I really love these old-school-jams on here and the ballads are simple but effective, have lots of fun with the album tho I seems to be the only one ....
