Hey there and Happy TG by the way. I don't see why anyone would feel that way when we all have different tastes in music, and I really do like 20ten better than what I've heard from Gaslight. Gaslight just doesn't do it for me, and it's not a negative opinion of the band, the album just doesn't make me want to say, 'Hey let me go put on some Gaslight music and groove to it!" 20ten is cool with me though.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
No, can't do that. It is what it is, and I thought you were 'bright/intelligent' enough to understand that not everyone has the same tastes in music. If you like orange juice should I like it too? Absolutely not. I'm sure the members of FDeluxe are aware that not everyone will be moved by their album, but some will. If you like 'Gaslight' then that's fine, but don't expect everyone else to. Nothing wrong with being honest about what type of music or which musician's/artist's music you don't like. Members do that all the time here. I like 20ten, and you will just have to live with that. Now stop messing with me on this most beautiful day. [Edited 11/24/11 10:06am]

It wouldn't surprise me if it is. Don't care one way or the other. This has been Jessie's stick since Shockadelica. I think he loves fucking with the media and Prince. I don't believe it's anything personal but that's Jessie. Jessie says what's on his mind. I remember long before the Pandemonium reunion Jessie was on the radio talking shit saying that the Time were gonna reunite and if Prince tried to fuck it up he would kick Prince ass. When all is said and done, The O7 delivers. You know what you're buying and you get what you paid for - a great show with interesting and entertaining people performing the music. A new record means a few more new songs in the set. That's a good thing. That's what the people want.

my cousin and i have been mpls fans since 84 and have gone 2 a lot of concerts 2gether, gotten involed with all the proteges etc. he handn't gotten the new album condensate yet so today being thansgiving i grabbed him and pulled him 2 my ride. i played snippet of each song over 2 mins long. the minute he started hearing song after song and his head started bopping, the smile on his face, the funk was hitting him. he turned 2 me and said "thanks man i'm picking this up 2morrow! if only prince would do something like this again"
man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

Considering they don't don't have an extensive catalog to draw on is it too much to expect them to play tracks like 'After High School' or 'OnedayI'mgonnabesomebody' every once in awhile? Not a change in style but a change in song choices. When go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all up in the house but when log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

I've seen them play both of those songs. You obviously don't make it out to a lot of Time concerts.

The one's I attended they didn't. It was the same setlist everytime. I wasn't exactly about to start traveling to see more of the same thing. When go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all up in the house but when log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

Every once in awhile is what you said and that is what they do.

^^^I guess I should've held out an chased them around the country for that rare experience of a setlist change. When go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all up in the house but when log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

I don't even think it's that rare. I think you like to speak of things you know little to nothing about. If you did see them, or most any other act, you have to know if you are seeing the full show or an abbreviated version. If there are a large number of acts on the bill or if the show is free then you most likely got the abbreviated show and wrongly assumed that was all that EVER happens.

All shows I attended Morris Day & The Time were the headliners only 2 of the shows had opening acts (Sandra St.Victor and a rock band who's name I don't remember). So there were not a large number of acts on the bill. Unless you consider 2 to be 'large'. So assuming the full show was repetitive after seeing it 3 times was enough for me. Or do you feel I should have attended more shows to form my conclusion? I've seen Morris Day and The Time play both of those songs. You got the abbreviated show. 2 acts on the bill means less time for the band to play. And back to your original criticism, you said "is it too much to expect them to play tracks like 'After High School' or 'OnedayI'mgonnabesomebody' every once in awhile?". Ok they do.

You said: "is it too much to expect them to play tracks like 'After High School' or 'OnedayI'mgonnabesomebody' every once in awhile?" They do play those songs sometimes. I guess you never make mistakes though, so I shouldn't expect you to just admit you messed up and move on.

i am not going 2 add fuel 2 this fire ..okay maybe a little bit but ummm T remember what i told u during the NYC gigs of the W2A about how the setlist seemed like the same thing over and over and u disagreed with me. but now ur saying the same thing about the time and thier setlist. i'm in agreement with u about i haven't seen the time live since i knew what the setlist has been however over the course of time they have added more of their songs to the list as opposed 2 when i had seen them last. and hopefully with this upcoming tour they will add more from condensate. but seriously bro, u can't say now that prince is really doing anything different in his setlist then when we saw him at the garden man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

In the famous words of Morris Day: Oh Lawd!!!
I'm assuming some of you have seen this interview with Morris, Jessie, Jerome and Jimmy Jam:
http://www.myfoxtwincitie...nov-4-2011
Someone else posted this on the Roger Troutman on Video Soul thread and I found the interview (though long) very interesting yet hilarious at times. It's obvious that Jimmy Jam and Jessie are more vocal than their counterparts, but I can appreciate their honesty. The part where Jessie, I believe, brought up a memory from the past where Prince told Morris not to do the "Bird" and how Morris would respond and just say "yeah yeah" then when the Time got on the stage, the first thing Morris would do is the "Bird". I could just imagine the fights they had with P back in the day. I also didn't know that The Time had a screenplay (already done or in the works?) but Prince intercepted and then it turned into Jimmy Jam's description (hilariously done) of what became the awful "Graffiti Bridge". And then the discussion of how in the world that happened in the first place (Prince intercepting THEIR plans)...and Jessie responds "The way it always happens".
But off the topic a bit, while watching the interview, I somehow had this urging feeling for them to bring up Alexander O'Neal and how all of that went down...the real deal. Not that bullshit Alex said on his "Unsung" episode on TVOne. [Edited 11/27/11 13:49pm] I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

I never mentioned Prince. What I said was since they had a smaller catalog it would be easier for them to play more obscure track every now and then as opposed to a hits set every time. The Time actually play more to their hardcore fanbase whereas Prince(depending on the size of the venue) does not. I'm not disagreeing with you about Prince playing songs repeatedly. With a smaller catalog it's easier to keep things fresh and surprising without alienating your audience. - E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
^ Unbelievable. Surely you understand that if they have a smaller catalogue statistically they have LESS 'obscure' material to choose from? Perhaps not... "Never argue with a fool, they will lower you to their level and then beat you with experience."—Woody Allen

If you have 35 songs in your entire catalog and 17 of them are extremely popular and well known, what is to stop you from mixing the other 18 into your set randomly? Morris saw fit to mix some of his solo hits into the Time set. Why not the less played non single tracks from their albums?
