Looks like their doing "Jungle Love".
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Yeah, does anyone what songs they played? RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
It's a medley including #trendin. At least that's what they said it was going to be a few weeks ago.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
ehhh? Medley!! Yuk!! Can't sell the new cds by playing a medley. The people will just ignore the new song and focus on Jungle Love and The Bird. Prince and The Time are definately the same as far as promotion. They always do it all wrong!!
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Well go put on a suit and dance & do all the promotion urself.... will ALWAYS think of like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that wasn't of this earth, would not have been that surprised. R.I.P.

The promotion is sort of like they aren't confident enough to take the stage with material that audiences aren't already very familiar with. You can look at the pictures and see it's the same tried and true routines. Not that I won't enjoy seeing them again, because I will be jamming when the show comes on.. But with a new album I was hoping the stage act would get an overhaul too. Oh well, Hello Grammy!:

FromAtlanta Music Scene blog:
Hearing Morris Day bleat the opening of “Jungle Love” was cool enough. But watching him and the crew formerly known as The Time break into those sliding dance moves and charge through a medley that included “Cool” and “The Bird” was an early reminder of how fun and funky R&B can be when done right. Even if they got up there and did three songs from Condensate,it wouldn't make a difference in the sales.I keep saying this but some of y'all don't pay attention: The only artists who sell alot of CDs these days are young acts and certain rappers. When was the last time you saw an 80s funk band have major success with a new CD? How many decades has it been since that has happened?

- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Yep... nothing GOOD could EVER happen. It's not possible. There is no need for any musician to ever do ANYTHING once they are over the age of 30. They will SURELY FAIL. HAHA. SoulAlive has figured it all out,

I love the new CD, but I hardly think anything could make it sell. U2 barely sold a million of their last album with tons of promotion in the US. Still, U2 never resorted to medleys. Medleys are short cuts taken by those who are lazy. It kills me to see the Time do this. I thought Prince was crazy to do medleys, but he's crazy anyway. At least with Prince's Lovesexy era medleys, the groove was out of this world. By the time the 1997 Jam of the Medley of the year tour hit, the shortened songs had little focus or effort.
I think the Time will still be half decent with the medleys, but it is still playing a weak hand. Medleys are almost always things old washed up artists do. The Time may be old, but they don't have to act like it.

I'll be watching this award show. Last year's show had some nice performances.

They need to start playing the new material. This isn't making me want to see the live show when they begin the tour. When go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all up in the house but when log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

For the most part funk was never a really big seller. It wasn't mainstream, it mostly sold to the black audience in its heyday. There were a few that had some Top 40 pop hits in the late 1970's when it was lumped in with disco. But the majority of funk acts didn't cross over. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

So now it's medleys that's the problem. Oh and age too. Next we'll get laurarichardson in here to say they are too black. They should all just curl up in a ball and die because they aren't 21 year old rappers. Give me a break. They are working their plan and I believe the best is still to come.

Most people at award shows just want to hear ur classic stuff anyways since they are not die hard fans. who will remember the new stuff unless radio supports it after the one show. Medley is the only way u can capture any audience appeal. Dont blame anyone for playing medleys

It's funny how the O7 is getting a pass on not playing their new material when "others" get ripped to pieces for doing the same. The music is good and this is the time to be promoting it. If they're not touring till 2012 then that's a long time to ask people to care about this project without them pushing it. Doesn't help that Morris Day & The Time are still doing shows either. When go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all up in the house but when log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

Paul McCartney still releases albums and he doesn't perform any of the new songs in concerts. At least half of the show are Beatle songs, when at one time he avoided doing them. Most older acts tend to only perform their hits. According to the set lists I've seen, Michael Jackson wasn't doing anything from Invincible in the This Is It show. It was basically the same songs he was doing on previous tours. The majority of the audience is going to hear the acts popular songs. If they try to do a new song, that is bathroom break or snack bar time. As far as the Soul Train awards go, how do you know they had a choice in what they performed? The producers of the program might have chosen the material. The Soul Train Awards audience is probably mainly younger and don't know the old songs, so it's new to them. So Prince should be playing the hits at his shows as well(which he does) and not be judged by it so harshly. Yet he gets bashed for it on here all the time. See, now I like it better in your second post when you said "others" instead of Prince. At least in that post you pretended to know and care about any artist other than Prince. #putdownthatpurpledrank

Did I state something untrue about the comments made on this site regarding setlists at Prince shows? When go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all up in the house but when log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

How does O7 get a pass? Pretty much all of us have been saying that we want to see them put some new stuff into their setlist? So again, where's this mythical "pass" of which you speak?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
They only played one new song at the Minneapolis gig and seemed bored except for Jerome according to the reviewer and now they're doing medleys. As for that mythical "pass" see reply #22.
