Family Jamm 2003 DVD In the light of the recent Family and Revolution reunions, I was watching the "Annual" Family Jamm 2003 fan-made DVD, and I noticed that some parts where missing from the recording, like the performances of Apollonia and Patty Labelle. But the main missing part is half of Sheila's set, including her Morris Day impersonation (which I really would like to see!)...is there a more complete version of the DVD available? BTW, I noticed some camera crew on stage during the concert...was it officially filmed?

I've never tried to track down the DVD, even though that whole show was one of my favorite concerts ever. That whole night was one great performance after another.
My understanding is that it was all professionally filmed and Sheila planned to release the DVD to further raise money for her foundation, but Prince wouldn't allow it. I don't know why there would be some parts missing from the bootleg DVD. Maybe some parts of the recording weren't captured well, or maybe the bootleggers only got part of the show.

Thanks Efan, great to hear you were in the audience then and enjoyed it! Would be great to have the official release one day!
@paulludvig: I don't think the recording came out as an "official bootleg" (with silkscreen disc-print, printed cover sheet, dvd-menu screen, etc.). It is just something that is circulating, probably brought to us directly by the person who filmed it....

yeah my version doesn't include everything either but i have the audio of the show which is in full man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

There was a crew videotaping the entire show and some of it was cut together, but it went no further than that. I can guarentee you that the version that is floating around had nothing to do with the crew that was taping it. There were others in the audience with cameras.
If a bootleg DVDs of this get sold, then the bootlegger should be sending some of that money to Sheila for her charity. It only seems fair. The only video I know of that is circulating was shot by a fan and only shared with a few people. It's missing exactly what the OP said.
The person who shot it was a huge Sheila fan and sadly passed away a few years ago.
When I met Sheila back around that time somehow the topic of the video came up and I had told her I had it and she asked for a copy so I made a VHS tape of it and set it to her.
She was very cool about it.
I wish the whole show woudl come out. I have the audio of Sheila as Morris doing Jungle Love and I lvoe the arrangement (I try to copy it when I play the song live!)
I was at the concert and no recording video or otherwise could ever fully capture the magic of that night! [Edited 11/15/11 22:20pm]

Agreed. That was an amazing night. I am sad that it was called the 1st annual Family Jamm show, and yet it seems like it was the only one. I think that they didn't make as much money as they hoped, but I can tell you as a fan of the music, seeing bands like The Family, The Revolution and Madhouse was great. Jill Jones, Apollonia and Sheila E.'s band were great and it was just fun seeing all of them back together again. It was a very fun show. I was surprised at how intimate it was. Carmen was a cool MC. I did not know there was a DVD floating around. I will have have to find this fan-made DVD for my collection.
