Soundboard: FBG/Anony - The Bird - First Ave '83 [img:$uid]http://i906.photobucket.com/albums/ac268/squirrelgrease2009/Bootlegs/Anony002-FBG42-Promo-1.jpg[/img:$uid]
Recorded from the soundboard. This Bird has been set free... Reminder, as per org rules, don't ask in this thread where you can get it.

Very, VERY cool!
I knew SOMEONE had to have the soundboard to this BECAUSE of the fact that some of the audio was used for the album. I'm just glad that things like this are finally starting to leak out and see the light of day.

Soo... even a crappy version of this hasn't exisited before?

Not sure. I do know I've heard (and have) the Bird track - in soundboard quality - where Morris says, "Hold on, hold on! Why y'all beatin' on shit?!" Not sure why the rest of the show never saw the light of day until now. I'm just glad it did!!!

Yeah, I'm not sure if another full version of this show is circulating openly. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Tah answers my question. I have that Bird recording, too. That's why I was asking. Mine may be soundbord, but it's fairly distorted.

the last minute or so of the Bird seems to be a different (also excellent) quality? Is this from that other source?

Yeah, it sounds really really good at the end there! All of a sudden the recording gets room-sound!

Great job on the art work

This release is all from the same source tape, but with that mobile recording studio on-site that night, I don't know if certain things were done on-the-fly, or what the deal was. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

This is a interesting show for several reason:
1. This show was actually a couple weeks after the imfamous First Ave show by Prince and The Revolution and like that show, this show was recorded (mobile). Some overdubs was done (after the show) on the "new songs" from that set to possibly appear on The Time's Ice Cream Castle album. The album version of "The Bird" did come from this show and the Purple Rain film version of "Jungle Love" came from this show as well. Only like 2 and a half minutes of the First Avenue recording appears on the movie but, it's longer than that and it's funky. This show was recorded weeks prior to the making of the film Purple Rain
2. The introduction of the new incarnation of The Time with new members St. Paul aka Paul Peterson, Mark Cardenas, Rocky Harris. Jimmy and Terry were fired by Jamie Starr (Prince) and Monte left the band soon after. A few of weeks after the First Avenue show, Rocky was fired as a member of The Time and was soon replaced. Rocky would go on to work with Jesse Johnson on some of Jesse's early solo albums along with Mark Cardenas.
3. This was just a great show by The Time despite the feelings of Jesse, Jellybean, and especially Morris at the time of this show.
The cover and booklet is great and with some EQ (turn a channel up a bit), this recording sound even better. Chill Sauce!

omg prince completley stole that line from morris during collection time "u took did u give" that's on the family's album during mutiny
wow! man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

Yeah, that was the first thing I thought of too, but maybe they were both saying it behind the scenes as jokes way back then, but Morris was the first to spit it on the microphone. Who knows. I just know I laughed my ass off when I heard him say that shit!

The animated gif reminds me a little of that horror film from the 70s The Car.

I listened to the whole show for the first time today. Nice to hear the Purple Rain version of "Jungle Love" in its entirety finally. I always liked that one more than the studio version. And where did that Jesse guitar solo on "The Bird" come from??? Very cool.

It does, now that you mention it. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

I don't know, but it's tasty. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

This is a bit AMAZING isn't it?
Can't believe a) this isn't even the classic line up, and b) they more or less split after this show.

I was lost for words when I first heard it, as far as "Jungle Love" from First Avenue. That version is great. I bet the full performance of "Jungle Love" (that was cut from the Purple Rain film) is the vault somewhere. I bet that footage exist along with many others. You can see more footage of it in the music video for that song. As for "The Bird", I like that performance as well. That solo Jesse did was cool. [Edited 11/10/11 8:28am]

imo this release doesn't get the attention or praise it deserves, just because it isn't a Prince-bootleg. But in terms of setlist and historical value, I think this almost matches the first Anony release. Busy doin' something close to nothing

Could the vocals on Wild & Loose be any more out of tune? Must have been a problem with the monitors on that number.

Just to clarify--this is the second Anony release? The first being the Prince 84 birthday show?
