Can we please remember WHY this show is taking place before all the "hopes crashing down" "without Prince who cares" bullshit??? A group of FRIENDS performing together in honor of one of their own who survived a near death event is a HELL of a reason to celebrate. They were amazing at the Family Jamm in 2003 and I'm sure they will be again at 1st Ave.

Prince may be the purple Yoda, but Wendy & Lisa and Eric Leeds also sit on the Jedi Council.

But that's the same approach as people who go around snapping up domain names.

What does it matter to him they ARE The Revolution/The Time etc...he is neither in the band or trying to reform a band with that name - pointless

You don't hear the grounds keeper of the city park in Paisley, Scotland getting all huffy

Exactly.

Most people posting probably won't be able to attend anyway, but if Prince not being there is the only reason you won't go, then don't go and shut up about it.

There's no need to disrespect the event.

I'm still shocked that Prince can lay claim to the band names The Revolution, The Time or The Family. They're more or less everyday words - not like Pearl Jam, Nine Inch Nails or Radiohead.

Granted, most band names are just combination of words anyhow . . . but it seems that the livelihoods of the bandmembers could be brought up in court.

Christ...you think people would get it by now. You can trademark a name for certain uses. Apparently he has "The Time." P diddy and the Family actually own the rights to the Family for music. You can look it up. Paisley Park has entered a "bid" for it...but it is pending and has been for a while. So Primnce does NOT own that. However- if I recall reading correctly...it doesn't mean he couldn't create a problem trough the court systems...and I think the ex Family members didn't want to go through all that plus decided to respect Prince's wishes.

http://tess2.uspto.gov/bin/jumpto?f=doc&state=4008:9baeld.3.148 is cancelled

http://tess2.uspto.gov/bin/jumpto?f=doc&state=4008:9baeld.3.149 is abandoned

http://tess2.uspto.gov/bin/jumpto?f=doc&state=4008:9baeld.3.151 also abandoned.

I saw nothing that was registered under music for just "The Revolution"

I was about to say damn near the same exact thing!! The so-called "new" ain't nothin' but "the old", only not nowhere near as good!!! The "new" ain't doin' nothin' new put pissing on the legacy of the old.

LONG LIVE THE REVOLUTION (or whatever they may be calling themselves)!! Life is too short, as Bobby now knows, so it's good that they get together to do this as soon as they can.

i think it would be sweet if prince attends for a one-time gig (i honestly would like to believe he would be interested in this reunion or show support for the event since it's for a good cause, even if he performs just one song) mushy

Maybe if Prince reads this, it will mess up his plan to be unpredictable. You may be Dead On It. Better delete this post so he'll still be unpredictable. fallinluv

Oh stop. It isn't like he has not reworked several songs over the years, this year being Little Red Corvette. He can't rework "every" song. And speaking of Controversy, he has reworked that.

And to Wetdream, that comment is also uncalled for. We all know everyone would attend a P and Rev concert as fast as they can, even those who are crtical of former Revolution bandmates. Not cool to call them "old gits." Don't act like these other unreasonable Prince haterationers lol.

If you're talking about the Purple Rain-era Revolution, without Prince it would be The Original 5ive . . . Wendy/Lisa/Brown Mark/Dr. Fink/Bobby Z.

Actually, it was established a while back that he has absolutely no rights to "The Family" yet would start legal trouble anyway... The band members simply didn't have money to fight (even if they would ultimately win) and so had to use something else.

Maybe, if he isn't there, the other bandmembers wouldn't object to having the concert taped and made publicly available? He's the one with the hangup about taping, right? It's an important historic occasion and there should be a record of it.

The Census Bureau estimates that there are 2,518 American Indians and Alaska Natives currently living in the city of Long Beach.
