Best album of 2011

I'll be checking out this podcast. Just listened to the album three times yesterday and watched the DVD. Very interesting insights into the history of the band.

I love this review!! They really analyzed the album....song by song.I agree with just about everything they said!

i recomend listening 2 this podcast while having condensate in background low as the fellas give their track by track review

Enjoyed the review. Great album and documentary. I will add one correction (in case the Freedom Train guys are reading this thread)... Sue Ann Carwell is not/was not Ta Mara. Margaret "Margie" Cox was Ta Mara of Ta Mara & the Seen. Carwell is black, Cox is white (just to clarify). Sue Ann sang in Enterprise with Morris, right before The Time was created. I believe she recorded a version of Prince's Make It Through The Storm (I've seen her mentioned as P's first "protege"). Her connections with Jesse go back to that time in Enterprise. Jesse produced more than half of her 1988 solo album "Blue Velvet" and all of her most recent album "Blues In My Sunshine" from 2010. She is the main bkgd vocalist on Verbal Penetration as well.

Boring, because of everyone sharing more or less the same opinion! This album is much more controversial than some might think. Way too much calculated pop in there. Melodies and choruses I don't want to hear from a funk band like "The Time". Bad taste in order to sell.

Great info Sue Ann Carwell was basically Prince's first protege.In 1979,he was working on an album project for her.Songs like "Wouldn't U Love 2 Love Me" and "Make It Through The Storm" were written for her album.I don't know what happened but the Prince-produced album never materialized.She did release an album in the summer of 1981,featuring the single "Let Me Let You Rock Me".I recall a 1988 interview where she talked about the early days of recording with Prince.She mentioned that many of the Vanity 6 ideas (lingerie,camisoles,etc) were ideas that SHE came up.

You hit the nail right on the head. There are a few tracks that are surprisingly wrong for The Time and smack of old guys pandering to the youth-dominated pop market.

If you can't hear the real funk in tracks like "Cadillac","If I Was Yo Man","Role Play" and the title track,then I don't know what to tell you.

Condensate is some raw, old school funk. It's there.

I like Strawberry Lake...thats the best song imo.

I'm disappointed because I was so psyched for this album.

The funk isnt funky enough, and it sounds like unreleased versions of 25 yr old stuff. Meh.

People need to update their hearing aids!

Here's hoping for an O7 2012 tour date announcement in the near future! I could go see Morris Day & the Time again but I'm holding out for OG7!!!
