Just listened to them. So far, none of them stand out. They sound like they are rejects from a Morris Day album, and not the thick funk of The Time.
This is sad because I was really excited about it. I'm going to get it and give it a listen but to me The Time rocks best when they are blending rock/funk and not doing ballads. The ballads are usually the weakest parts of their albums... at least to me. The expanded version of my book PRINCE and The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions 1983-1984 was released in November 2018. It seems to be a little bit over the place, but unfortunately nowhere near as good as "Pandemonium". What a pity!

Doesn't sound good. Disappointing.

trendin dosen't sound so good as a snippet but it sounds good in full. it's really too early too tell if the album is good or not..

I think some of them are quite promising. I've learnt never to trust a snippet. The trendin snippet did nothing for, but after hearing the full version I started to take an interest in the new album.

I like what I heard "If I Was Yo Man" sounds like a potential single.Very excited about this project!

Cadillac! That's the one! Put it out ASAP!
The snips sound pretty good. I also like the tittle track, but if any of these tracks are going to be blasting from teenagers cars it's Cadillac. For sure. [Edited 10/3/11 13:52pm]

Sounds inspired by LL Cool J's "Going back to Cali" All the clips sound very youthful. I hope that's not going to turn off the older fans, it sounds very poppy. The album sounds like its going to be really good. [Edited 10/3/11 15:57pm]

wow, Strawberry Lake is pure Purple!. Love these samples and you can sense that there's a lot of grooves and strong hookes in a lot of these trax. In many ways they have done what P has managed to do since 2004's Musicology i.e. go back to their original basic sound and try to modernise it or as we tend to say give us the P-Lite sound!. However on 1st impressions it sounds like they have been more successful in mixing the old time sound with the sounds of today. Do you really think that if they released C.O.O.L or Jungle Love today it would stand a chance?.
As always good luck guys.

I wasn't expecting the time of 1981. If this was a new band and I heard it I would certainly give it a shot, not just dog it for not being something I had expected. Sounds like something OutKast might try to do in places with a little more old school depth from the snippets.

Fuck this album.
I'm not buying this and I won't even waste my time downloading it.
I figured that Trendin would be the worst song on the album, what a complete failure.
As soon as I heard "Hey Yo" I just fucking knew a disasterous listening session was in store.
Caddilac is the only track that interested me.
You're so glam, every time I see you I wanna slam!

from what i heard its not what i expected but i do know for sure its not bad but i could do without the jesse johnson guitar shit they suck on rock songs.strawberry lake sound like something prince would do if i was your man sounds good so im really gonna buy the album no matter what cuz i been asking for it since 97

I'm ready for this CD! I'm not feelin' "Hey Yo" but out of all of the tracks I heard there were only about three that I didn't like at all (FROM THE SNIPPETS). For what its worth, I didn't really care for Trendin' from the snippet but after hearing the whole track, it was a much better song than I thought. A few were just okay (from the snippets) but the funk rock tracks are gonna kick ass! A couple had STRONG Sly & The Family Stone influences. I heard some James Brown influence in there, too. This is the album for the grown folks! I say bring it on!

do you hear any usher in some of the songs ??? seem like i can tell they were produced by jam and lewis cuz i can hear something i heard before in a few

Overall, It was a good move that this is not labeled as a The Time album. It does not feel like one. Good move by both Prince and the folks from OG7.

Interesting comments from those who listened to the previews. Since I pre-purchased the album, I'm going to wait to hear it in full before I make any final judgements. "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

As I already said, I'm buying multiple copies on GP but I honestly like what I'm hearing so far. Not every song but I really like what I've heard of Faithful and Strawberry Lake. #Trendin' is definitely growing on me since I've heard the whole thing. It's a fun song. There are a few others that I think can grow me.
I don't know if I like Cadillac and I have to deduct a point for them making me ever even say such a thing. I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

Looking foward to this album. I think its only fair to review this album when we hear the COMPLETE VERSION.

Very poppy, very mainstream with a little bit of updated funk in there.

i was expecting a maturer funk sound in a similar vain to jesse johnson's 'verbal penetration'...instead i feel they are chasing a younger audience...morris day is no usher or kanye west..............??
in my minds eye i was dreaming of extended funk jams....Bitches Brew track lengths (10 minutes minimum)....old school vibes with a contemporary twist.....what we got? pop music. holding something together that is falling apart

I think, with this album, they have a more 'mature' funk sound. They don't neglect their past, but they seem more interested in moving forward. This is funk in 2011.

I'm really feeling "Sick" I found myself going back to that one. So far Trending and Sick are my favs. Can't wait to hear the full tracks!

Yep Yep! One minute they want peace……
Then do everything to make it go away.

I know what you mean. I felt that way about Jesse's Verbal Penetration because the samples blew me away and i would play the hell out of the samples til i got sick. Can't say i feel the same way about this album yet but i look forward to it and it is some songs i am diggin like Strawberry Lake, Condensate, If I was yo man, and one of the rock funk tracks. After a few more listens i'm feelin Role Play a lot too. If I Was Yo Man could easily be the next single. I'm actually lovin the first half of the cd but when you get down to the last six there is nothing that actually excites me but a couple are okay. Morris can give Hey Yo back to Neyo. [Edited 10/4/11 22:00pm] Don't laugh at my funk
This funk is a serious joint
