Vanity or Vanity 6...what happened to the album? Refresh my memory, people. I can't remember if the album was called Vanity or Vanity 6. For some reason, I don't remember the other girls being on the cover of the album. Anyways, when this album came out, I didn't have much money, so even though I decided it wasn't that hot, I kept listening to it and it grew on me. When my album broke into many pieces, I never replaced it.
Was this album ever released on CD.? When they shoved CD's down my throat, I never replaced this deliciously bad album. But, it holds a lot of memories for me and I think about it often. Is it out of print? How can I get it?

Hi, there were official cd's printed in the US and Japan around the late 80's-early 90's, and some copies are still available:

Thank You!!! I will thoroughly check out all of these sites. I do remember that the album I'm looking for was on the Motown label.

You are thinking of Vanity's solo albums on Motown, either Wild Animal or Skin On Skin. Neither of which were ever released officially on CD.

No official US CDs. Any that you see are bootlegs by knobheads trying to rip people off.

Vanity 6 was released on cd stateside by WB back in the day. Nick Ashford was someone I greatly admired, had the honor of knowing, and was the real-life inspiration for Cowboy Curtis' hair. RIP Nick. - Pee Wee Herman

That's it! It's Wild Animal,. I just discovered a site www.ioffer.com/i/165444903 that has both cd's. Except that they were calling Wild Animal a cdr. Anyone know what that is? I sent them a note asking if these were original releases or some bootleg copies, as Mong has stated.

They are copies, not originals. A CDR is what you buy at the store to burn music on at home. [Edited 10/29/11 14:58pm] "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

Again, 1984's "Wild Animal" and 1986's "Skin On Skin" have NEVER been released on CD. Anything you find on the net or anywhere else are bootleg vinyl rips. "It's not nice to fuck with K.B.! All you haters will see!" - Kitbradley

It is amazing how one can read something and twist the words to suit what they'd like to believe. Sextonseven also said neither were ever officially released on cd. Bummer! Thanks kind people for helping me!

Actaully it was in the late 80s. I have one here too. I bought it and the tape from a record store when I was in high school around 1992.

So, it was available but is no longer. That sucks! I only find sellers wanting to part with vinyl or cassette. I'd consider an old, fragile casette if they weren't selling it for $30.00 People don't want to part with their Vanity. Who knew it'd be such a commodity.

You're welcome
Some cheap cassettes from her "Skin On Skin" album are available:
Not seen yet a cheaper cassette of "Wild Animal" though
You could also consider the following since it's not certain if or how soon those Motown albums might be officially reissued:
- buying those available cd-recordables which you saw online. The price is imo not that high and affordable, compared to the prices on musicstack: Vanity - Wild Animal (although Musicstack sells them as an LP-CDR package, but still)
- buying the vinyl copies of both Vanity's albums would be another option, and then copy them on a cd-recordable, or have someone else which you know who can do that for you. At least then you can be sure to have a decent-copied sound quality, instead of the cassette(s)?
- or download the albums from one of the few available links online

Yeah, the Vanity 6 album was on cd, but you have to be careful now because people like to sell so many bootlegs online. The other two solo Vanity albums I don't think were every released on cd. I have Wild Animal on vinyl.
The only songs I listen to on it are "Pretty Mess" and "Mechanical Emotions", because she sounded high as hell recording that. And, Motown was wrong for releasing it too- lol.

Are Wild Animal and Skin On Skin really worthy? How do they sound like? And the 1988 Apollonia album?
Any opinions on these three albums?

I recently sold a copy of the "Vanity 6" CD on ebay that I found in a used record store a few weeks ago. It sold for $30, which is the going price for the disc right now. I've seen it for under $30 on amazon.com. I remember just a couple of years ago, that title was going for over $100. "It's not nice to fuck with K.B.! All you haters will see!" - Kitbradley

That should provide for a very entertaining response from the ole gal. Just be warned, she'll try and save your soul from hell and eternal damnation for even wanting to listen to that CD. "It's not nice to fuck with K.B.! All you haters will see!" - Kitbradley

I wonder how sales are for Vanity? I would actually be interested in reading Vanity's autobiography, but based on that horrid excerpt, she needs a really good ghostwriter.

You can listen to her on youtube. I listened to wild animal yesterday, sounds just as good as the stuff that's playing today.

I'm gonna give you my honest opinion
***'Wild Animal' is a mess. The tunes are so poorly written,it becomes comical after awhile Nobody expected Vanity to be a great singer but on this album, her vocals are horrid. She spends much of the album screeching and squealing but never really attempting to 'sing'.Still, there are a few good things about this record."Pretty Mess" is one of those songs that is so bad that it's good, lol. It's incredibly silly and outrageous, but also alot of fun.The superior "Mechanical Emotion" boasts a hot Minneapolis-styled groove, with a cameo appearance from Morris Day on the chorus. The melodic "Samuelle" shows potential but again, the lyrics are messy and unfocused.
***'Skin On Skin' is an improvement. This time around,Motown supervised the recording sessions and paired Vanity with skilled songwriters. The result is an album filled with 'real' songs. The first single "Under The Influence" is Vanity's finest solo single. It's sexy and intoxicating and notice that her vocals here are actually decent. There are a few other good songs, such as "Confidential".The rollicking "Animals" sounds alot like Prince's "Let's Go Crazy".

I'm actually almost finished reading Blame it on Vanity, and it is quite an interesting read. She has a colorful and vivid way of telling a story. The things in the book range from absolutely horrifying to uplifting and inspiring. "Get up off that grey line"
