Madonna's last two albums had a Top 10 hit ("Hung Up" in 2005 and "4 Minutes" in 2008).

$\4 mins was becoz of justin I already mentioned that and hung up was not a big airplay hit it merely did it thru digital downloads which is still possible but thru airplay is next to impossible and the digital download was carefully released just when the song was peaking on airplay.

About album sales prince albums still open high like someone mentioned about duran duran. madonnas album totallys r like 30% higher then prince although there is alot of payola for her.

I mostly go to the non-prince section and this is my first time in Associated artist what i noticed is that alot of prince haters hang out here and put down his every accomplishment. prince is doing incredibly well compared to anyone from the 80s.

No,I'm not a "Prince hater" I was just responding to your assertion that there aren't any 80s superstars who are still having Top 10 singles.I pointed out that Madonna's last two albums each had a Top 10 hit single.You can say it's because of other factors (Justin being involved,payola,whatever) but the fact remains.I'm not putting down Prince's accomplishments.I just pointed out that,in many ways,he is in the same boat as The Rolling Stones,The Eagles,and others.These are legendary artists who can still sell concert tickets,but you probably won't ever see them have a Top 10 hit single ever again.Nothing wrong with that.Their new music doesn't appeal to mainstream audiences.

Why do you have to put down other artists' accomplishments to make Prince look better? I've seen you do this many times before in the Music:Non Prince forum.Does it bother you that Prince is not as popular as he used to be? I think you care about this stuff more than he does,lol.

as i said madonna last sing wont have reached even top 40 if it wasnt for justin and hungup was not a airplay hit. now she is teaming up with nicki minaj and mia to get a hit that should do the trick. Digital hits like hungup will be harder this time around because the numbers required to have a digital hit have gone up from 2005 with only 60k downloads if my memory serves me right. now she is with live nations(clear channel) which owns most of the radio stations in the US.

Of course...look at what charts high...a crapload of crap. So who CARES about chart positions in 2011?? It doesn't tell you whether it's a good album or not. It tells you they have a lot of fans or do good promotion. Or a sponsor is buying up a lot of product to get the chart numbers;)

Let's see Prince's airplay...lol. Why not make THAT the big deal? Neither of them really are.

i finally looked at the u2 link they have not had much success with hits recently. I know their albums always open very high and sell the most. There is no other act from the 80s who sells that many albums. u2 has 17 top 40 hits i am surprised they didnt have more.

prince also had many hits if u include H100 top 40 and r&b top 40 he has had 55 hits.

if u include songs written by prince for others top 40 and r &b top 40 he has 52hits

and i f u add the 2 its well over 100 top 40 hits by prince. its just remarkable how good prince has been at generating hits. purple rain spent 24 weeks at #1 in 1984 no album since then has been able to cross the 24 week mark set by prince

What does that have to do with Prince in 2011? I KNOW all this stuff. I grew up a Prince fan. I knew trhe charts, I knew the times he was number one across chart genres... I'm not concerned about his past acheivements...I was there for that. I can listen to those albums. How bout one I can listen to now? I'ts been a good long while. Found plenty of music no one has heard of better than his recent material (imo) with some heart, soul and creativity rather than rehash. Sometimes people need a break and recharge.
