Please tell me how often The Time have transitioned into Cool for a brief moment only to return to the song they were playing before?
I would have to guess never (I could be wrong here), seeing how Cool is arguably their most popular song and they always play a full version of it live (albeit a shorter 'radio cut' version).
They stole that from the song 100 MPH, which was crafted after all ties were severed between the group and Prince. Riffing on Cool during that song was a staple of Mazarati's live performances.
Swagger jackers.
+ Watching it again with headphones on I could hear Terry's bass a lot better and I still liked Morris' vocals for the most part. The close up on the backup singers shortly after the one minute mark was just laughable imo. Like, who the fuck are these bitches?!!?! We want Jesse! Although he did look a bit uninterested when he was visible. I can't blame him, I wouldn't want to be there promoting that album either.
Dude you seriously need to lay off the crack

You dog Prince for his latest music but praise Condensate? I searched the threads, no one talking with vigor over Verbal Penetration and that was an album with FUNK blues and meaningful lyrical content.
I don't blame Jesse, I'd keep my hat down while playing with these dudes too. Monte and Gary are cool as hell and respect their talents.
Wasn't there a song on the CD that actually said my faithful is not your faithful? I can see it doing well in today's 'charts' because it belongs in the same bin as the other garbage on the airwaves.

Just watched it and thought it was a good performance. not great. But I thought Princes performances (for comparison sake- he is a GREAT performer live) were mediocre in pats...but he had several nights to ge tthe really good ones he had. If you guys ever watch SNL or any of the shows where nads come out and perform- often the first is so-so (even with god performaers) and the second is better. At a concert you have several songs to get yourself into it PLUS you are playing to your crowd or have time top MAKE them your crowd. I was playng it safe a bit - sound was good on my system tho I can always bump the bass and Monte's solo could have been louder. Overall it was solid and if I had never seen these guys or had not been following the since Purple Rain I would have been blown away. We know far more than the average listener about what these guys CAN do live. Jesse was playing rhythm- you rarley see focus on guitar nles it's a lead on the teevee. Def would like to see other songs live from the cd. |

I'm not trying to compare, but Prince's performance of Fury on SNL was white hot (actually all of his SNL performances were great). Actually, I can't think of one Prince performance that was not better (much better) than O7's Leno performance. Even Prince's Leno performances were much, much, much better, and I think that as Prince performances go, the Leno shows were on the lower end. Prince is just a better performer. But then again, I think he's the greatest performer. He even knocks these youngions out of the water. |

I dunno where you've been but VP got tons of love around here when it came out. I'm still playing it too.
My thing is that I appreciate each artist for what they bring to the table without feeling the need to make endless comparisons for no reason....Prince included. I love most of the songs people dog Prince about because I like that whole introspective, contemplative vibe he sometimes gets into.
People bitch about one artist having too many facets and then they bitch about the other artists not being faceted enough. How do y'all ever enjoy anything?
It's pretty simple for me, either I like something or I don't and I am loving the fun, party vibe of Condensate not to mention the kickass grooves the fellas put together. Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise. |

Like I said, this was one damned song and I don't know of any act where people have said they had their best performance on Leno for chrissakes,

i know right and it's not a diss on maceo but 4 real pricne's live performances have been so boring 2 me of late. take a look at his last tv appearnce on Lopez tonight, "new" song but umm that song was from album that isn't even available in the states a YEAR later! and for those that bitch about the time incorporating "cool" ummm no beefs about prince doing the beautiful ones then a cover tune after that? but it also proved that prince as a live performer these days is someone that does nothing but one new song, relying on classics and cover tunes and doesn't give me the sense of excitment of seeing them live. now as 4 the time/o7 now i'm jonsed about seeing them live. i haven't seen them live since 96 and despite how many times they have come around my area since then, i didn't want 2 bother because it would be the same songs over and over, but now there is new material and when i hear this album condensate, i'm visioning them doing these songs live. man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81 |

The other poster said The Original 7ven were too old to be doing the lyrics on the album, and I replied that Al still is doing the same type of songs he has always done. He has a new album too. I guess some folks think that someone of a certain age is supposed to be some old fuddy duddy singing "deep" songs about the problems of the world or something. If they want that, there's always U2 albums. That's not the O7's job. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton |

Morris did a couple of songs with a more serious message on his Guaranteed album, and it didn't do anything. The Time did It's Your World, and maybe even Onedayi'mgonnabesomebody could be a message song. But they're a party band, not a message group, or some kind of afrocentric poetry Jill Scott type of act. If you buy a Johnny Mathis album, you know you're getting romantic songs, not hair metal. I'm not one of these Prince die hards that tries to discredit the Original 7ven. In fact i
think their new cd is better than Lotusflow3r. I'll also say that some of Prince last tv
performances was lame but maybe he toned it down for television. I saw him live in
March on tour and P bought it. He had everyone standing. I know the 07ven live show
would be money too on tour. Hell the touring band with Morris was tight last year when i
saw them live so i know damn well the Original guys gonna bring it. Don't laugh at my funk

I don't know what you're talking about! I have my church choir working on a gospel tinged version of If The Kid Can't Make You Come. We taking it to the Lord up in here!!!
ahhh damn that is some straight up chillisauce right thur!! i should start the sermon with "i guess u heard of my reputation i've had my share of fooling around..."
I never thought One Nation Under A Groove would be made into a religious song, When Doves Cry either. Hammer and Kirk Franklin did just that. I'm but I don't put it past anybody to do that. |
