Jesse Johnson was completely ignored on Leno

Did anyone else notice that?

The camera would always cut back to the nameless backup singers before it reached him.

The only time he was clearly visible was during the ride over to Monte's solo.

+ I can't say that I didn't appreciate it, but stealing gimmicks from other paisley acts wasn't very "original" to say the least. (Transitioning into Cool = Mazarati's schtick!)

You're so glam, every time I see you I wanna slam!

The only reason it cut to Monte was because he had a solo, and Terry wasn't gettin' any shine either.

Agreed. And was it me or was the mix all messed up? Couldn't hear the bass, guitar or background singers properly; couldn't hear Monte's solo either.

They should have played Trendin straight up without the C-O-O-L break; that alone prob threw off potential buyers (all confused about the sudden change up).

That's nothing unusual for the Tonight Show. In many cases, the cameras mostly focus on the singer.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Leno's studio audience probably isn't familiar with Cool anyway. Maybe they think it's part of the song. razz

Terry had a few close-ups during the act.

Plucking away at a bass that seemed to be unplugged lol.

Monte's keyboard was 'so low' that it completely drained all of the excitement out of the solo.

I guess that's what I'm sayin'...to me the change up wasn't a smooth trasition from Trendin, so to non fans it must have been musically confusing.

Okay so I wasn't the only one who had a problem with the overall mix. And yeah Terry didn't look like he was really playin...looked very strange and I couldn't hear the bass at all (i had headphones on)

Don't think it would be confussing to non fans cause they don't know #Trendin or COOL.

It was a terrible transition. I thought that they were going to just play COol and I was actually glad to hear it but they went back to Trendin (it did sound better than the album version though). It was abrupt and all it did was show lame Trendin is next to a classic like Cool.

yeah they dropped the ball on that performance. The song they were playing when they came out was SMOOTH!! Then it went into Trendin(which I do Love) but it sounded aweful. Maybe that song is not a good one to play live. I hope they play something different on the Soul Train Awards or BET awards(whichever one it is) in Nov.

Did you join in July just to crack on associated artists? Sort of seems like it.

It wasn't bad at all, I liked it. There's always a bunch of whiners and negative people on this site, you shouldn't be surprised by that. lol

I thought it was great! Morris looked fantastic! It's messed up that Jesse didn't get much air time. That the breaks with live tv. The only bass I could hear was coming from an Oberheim synth. Jerome was the most energetic for sure! The break was cool. Why are folks so critical? just enjoy that the fellas are back togeter for awhile and doing their thang!

Agreed.

It's times like these that I'm so grateful the internet wasn't around during the 80's because sometimes people's opinions are flat out annoying. I thought the performance was great. I cringe at all the "they should have" or "what they shouldn't have done ..." they are legends, they are living out their musical legacy while we all chat about it on here.
