I wouldn't be concerned with sales when it comes to a classic band in the current music industry environment.
They will make their money on the tour. Now, if they were not able to sell out small venues, then I would be worried, but I dont think they are in danger of having that problem at all.
And yes, I would far rather that they stayed on a small label with a smaller marketing budget but maintain their integrity than to see them in a video with Lil Wayne and Drake just to try to make them sound "current".
I agree. |

It's like I always say, the older artists are not going to appeal to the young music buyers of today so stop making music trying to appeal to them. All it does is piss the older longterm fans off that might have bought it if it had songs that appealed to them.
You'd be surprised at "retro"-sounding their album is.There are no rappers on it and several tracks sound like their classic material from the 80s. |

Did you see my post in the other thread where I demanded that you get this cd and I would send you ten dollars if you don't like it?
That's how sure I am that you're gonna dig these tracks, Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise. |

Save your ten dollars honey. I heard the samples and as Men on Film used to say....."Hated it!".
As for needing to hear more than just the samples, I'll wait to hear some songs once they reach youtube to hear the full songs. My days of giving artists I've loved in the past a pass when they fuck up on new projects are over. Andy is a four letter word. |

All I have to hear is even the smallest slightest hint of something that sounds like the current music of today and that's enough to turn me off completely. A complete style change in music as a whole will never occur when people continue to support artists that make music that sounds like the current music scene of the last 20 years.
And as for me determining they've fucked up by hearing samples and not hearing the full songs, well, how would you suggest I make my decision? By buying the album? Uh...hell naw. If I buy it, hear the full songs, and decide they sound like shit, then they've made money for making something shitty. That defeats the purpose of protesting something if you've still given them your money. If an artist makes money from a shitty project, the next project will be shitty also. No, you've never steered me wrong but I know what I heard in those clips. There's gonna have to be some youtube videos of the songs from the album for me to hear in full before I even think about buying the album. Everybody told me I was going to like Chaka's album a few years ago and I only liked one song on the whole thing and it was a slow song....I think it was called "Angel". For an album called "Funk This", I didn't hear no funk whatsoever. Boy, was that a waste of money. Oh, and my idea of funk is not something midtempo to sit back and "chill" to. If it ain't ass shakable, I ain't got time for it.

I popped over there and listened to a few seconds of it. I didn't listen to the whole thing but when I heard the beginning with the drums, I immediately said....."I love it!".
That's just one song though. I gotta hear some more before I buy the album. Andy is a four letter word. |

Money ain't the problem. Hell, it's only 10 dollars. It's the principal of it. If it's good, I don't mind spending the money, but if it's not......
I'm just tired of artists from my generation watering their music down trying to appeal to today's generation. Today's generation has a whole radio full of bullshit if they like that type of stuff. People my age have to "search" for good music and when our artists start selling out to appeal to the younger generation, then there's absolutely nothing for us besides listening to our old records. Ugggg, every time I type the words "have to search for good new music", I want to barf because we shouldn't have to "search" for it. And then there's the artists like Ronald Isley and Charlie Wilson who go the neo stool route thinking we'll like it. Hell, I'm only 44 years old, I'm not old enough for a nursing home yet. Give me some hard ass shaking funk and save all that midtempo shit for the youngsters who have the taste of senior citizens.
