Condensate will not go up. the first week is when all hard core fans buy albums and after that is all downhill. next week it will drop by like 70% . then 50% and then 30% it is the standard trjectory of most albums. And this will be no different unless radio plays them consistently and oprah used to have a huge impact on sales too. I have been following the album charts weekly since the 90s i know a thing or two.

No promotion until this week, radio airplay just last week. That is pretty good. Imagine if this was being promoted weeks leading into the release, radio play since september or at least early October.

Next weeks charts, I can see it being higher as more people know about it this week compared to last, not to mention Jay Leno.

Record labels don't expect every album to be Thriller. Thousands of albums are released every year and most of them don't sell much. The big albums pay for any little niche record such as Hawaiian folk tunes or spoken word albums. It's like a movie studio isn't expecting an "art film" to make money. They have Die Hard 58 for that. The major labels sometimes release albums to fail on purpose for a tax writeoff. In this case, a small label doesn't need to sell a lot to make a profit. Exactly.Record labels (and the artists themselves) do not have unrealistic expectations about sales.I don't think anyone involved with this project expected it to sell like Thriller

It wasn't an indie release. It was released through Sony RED, which is the distribution arm of Sony BMG. As I understand it with RED you get the distribution of a major but you're doing your own PR/marketing. So you'll be in the stores but it's your job to let people know that!

It definitely has the Soundscan barcode. Not sure how many it sold though. But I bought it and I like it, so that's what counts to me

It would if it's released as a single. Unfortunately unlike the 80's radio stations don't

play random album cuts. The majority of them have a set list pre programmed.

You may be fortunate at times to have a radio station that will take requests during

a certain hour or guys like Micheal Baisden or Tom Joyner to help get these old school

r&b acts exposure.

If it was a huge album being promoted than I could see the sales falling. But most of the promotion is coming now and weeks later

The TREND is for albums to drop hugely, but there have always been creeper albums that don't do well when they're first released and then slowly become sellers a year or two or several years after they're released. Think of Maxinquaye, any of Nick Drake's albums, any of the VU albums, a lot of the Kink's albums, The Man Who Sold the World (Bowie's pre-Space Oddisey albums didn't sell well until the later 70's, 80's), Jeff Buckley's Grace, A lot of the early Funkadelic albums didn't sell well but are considered classics today...

Im not saying this will happen with this album, because i dont personally think the material's strong enough but one never knows when one releases an album if something will resusitate it. Sometimes if a band tours enough albums can gain traction and start selling.

Pre-Soundscan, it wasn't that common for an album to debut high, then fall off. Most gradually went up the chart. The few that did debut high, kept a steady pace, and didn't just drop off the face of the earth in a couple of weeks.

they dropped completely out to the top 200 soundscan numbers this week. the lowest seller at #200 only sold 2108 units last week. The project is a wrap.

The promotion for this wasn't on point. They aren't toruing as of yet either. The video was a step in the right direction as was the Leno gig. The problem was that most people didn't know about either of those things and they were very vague leading up to the CDs release with the cryptic messages on the site. They've only done the show in LA and they're doing a signing in Minneapolis this week(not sure if there's a gig also). Their next tv appearance isn't for 3 weeks or so. I think once they hit the road it'll climb up the charts.
