is someone going to post it on here, or where we can find it? It seems like the press for this is being done in secret for some reason. Considering the age of Morris and the fellas,I'm surprised that radio is playing them at all "#Trendin" was the Most Added song on R&B/urban stations last week. That right there is an accomplishment!

I agree, I expected this entire project to not make any appearances on any charts.

If this doesn't start getting some media coverage, then I am betting that the 2012 tour will be much smaller then planned. I hope not because I want these guys to succeed with this. The Time is one of my favorite groups and this is an amazing album. The expanded version of my book PRINCE and The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions 1983-1984 was released in November 2018. I saw them mentioned in JET but I don't think it's an entire article, just a small write-up....

I agree, there should have been more pre-release 'build up' for this album.Morris did an interview in September (or late August?) and he was asked about the album. He just said it would be "out in October" but gave no other details This project needed a little more press and attention.

And to someone earlier who said its the most added song on R&B radio, that would impact next week sales. It should have been added 3 weeks ago. PRINCE: Always and Forever

Outta curiousity, does anyone know how many CDs Jesse's "Verbal Penetration" sold, first week and overall?
| |
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
^^^I think Jesse's album was an independent release, so might not have charted, as sometimes independent CD's don't have the Soundscan barcode. Albums sold only on a website (ie. TTD/Sananda) also are usually not tracked. [Edited 10/26/11 15:49pm] You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. I don't know why anyone is surprised or disappointed. Who pays attention to Soundscan besides the industry? Since when have they been the measure of what constitutes good music? In this day and age, most good music gets ignored by the press and industry, much less a group that last put out an album 20 years ago. But the radio is playing them, and as long as the band tours behind this album at a venue near me, I'm there. Yeah, when The Time was 1st active, there was no Soundscan. It doesn't track all sales anyway. TV has very very little affect on things anymore, that was years ago when everyone went on OPRAH and their shit shot through the roof, even towards the end OPRAH had very little affect on records. I have to say, as its been said, WHAT DID U THINK IT WAS GOING TO DO, in all honesty what did u think a band that hasnt really had a record since 1990 that wasnt even that big of a deal then, and now that band is in their early 50's? NEWSFLASH, this album did what was expected, and now touring and further appearances will enhance and might stir up some longer life to the record, or it might just fall off totally, BUT DID U LIKE IT? if YES then what the hell does it matter? the game is up peeps, our favorites really dont sell anymore, my fave artists have had great records still and yes that havent sold much, the new DD, didnt do much business but its a great fucking record, a few years back RICK SPRINGFIELD released his amazing Venus in Overdrive it debuted at 28 sold about 20K that first week, amazing numbers for him his highest debut since the 80's, the album was great, then it fell off about 3 weeks later doing almost all its business those first few weeks, so people just accept it and listen to some good records, new DARYL HALL amazing, no one cared to buy it for the most part, who gives a crap. I cared to buy the new Daryl Hall CD because it is great music, not because the general public thought it was. Joe Q. Public these days doesn't seem to know what good music is. "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

John Oates has a new solo album too. I haven't heard it, but I saw it in the record store. Exactly!
What I don't get is why people take this stuff so personally. It's like they need validation or something. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Anybody, what spot did they come in at?
And also, to a few saying the charts don't measure how good the album/artist is, I'm not arguing that. But when artist put out albums, they wanna sell some records. If the Time or anyone esle didn't care about record sales, they'd give their music out free. PRINCE: Always and Forever

Releasing an album cost money. They have to pay the bills for making it, manufacturing CD, video and then marketing it and even the promotion of travelling is costly when u have 7 guys going around to different cities. They been working for 3yrs on it
They r in the business to make money and then split it 7 ways.
Apart from jam and lewis others r not independently wealthy
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
The label pays for that, not the artist. Morris and them are not paying get disc manufactured and what not, that's the labels job. PRINCE: Always and Forever

The label has to make a profit they dont do anything for charity. if this album only send up selling 20k how will the label make a profit

You can't make money of you don't put the word out. It might end up selling that without the label backing the product. PRINCE: Always and Forever

Television still has major influence over the public.
What the hell were you thinking to type that out?
+
I'm surprised this album didn't sell less.
People who would likely be interested in the music don't even know it exists at this point.
An article in an irrelevant magazine and a couple of internet interviews aren't what I would consider "publicity"
Has anyone heard trendin on the radio at all?
I'm doubting it gets any play outside of the TwinCities metro area, and even then it must be limited.
You're so glam, every time I see you I wanna slam!

this project will probabally get shelved very soon. I hope not but why should they do it if noone is buying them. Most Prince fans didn't even buy it.
