The Original Sevenven??? O_O I'm sorry but that's what I read: "7ven" = "sevenven". And don't go tell me it's a "style thang". "Se7en", like the Fincher movie, ok: it does make sense (V = 7). But "7ven" DOES read "Sevenven".
The Original Sevenven?
Nonsense, I just don't get it
Apart from that, i'm fucking glad they're back A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

I hear you ! | |

I was thinking the same thing - which is why I will say again that the name is terrible. It is too trendy with the use of a digit and when read literally it makes no sense.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

You guys are really being assholes about this name thing. Really. Its annoying.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
it's okay the stupid name isn't a refection of their music.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
What's stupid is having an overwhelming desire for things to fit in designated boxes and a desire to police people who don't follow those "rules". The same people who bitch about things like this are the same people who endlessly point out misspellings on message boards or take type-os and bitch about them forever as if they were deliberate. Its pathetic. Everyone with an ounce of sense gets it.

The way the fellas are throwin down on this cd I care less than a damn what they call the group, Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

I couldn't give a crap what they call themselves. The record is (mostly) great.
However, I'm also not so much of a fanboy that I can't acknowledge the name is not really legible the way they in10ended (see what I did there).
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I think their name, And fDeluxe, are both kinda iffy but you try finding a name that hasn't been taken! At least it's easier to find than the time or the family on the Internet!!
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I don't get it either. | |
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
and i read it just fine...lol
| |
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Whatever they're called, I'm supporting it. They could go under any number of names, and it wouldn't make a difference.

Be cool, dude, willya?
I ain't bitching, just saying I don't get it and I'd like to know why they thought it was a good idea, so sue me! I definitely was into the thing (and I kinda am one of a VERY few), so it ain't about fitting into boxes, it's about trying to sound cool without making sense
Peace, dude. A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

....so you thought changing ones name to a symbol with no pronunciation was cool...but something that nine out of ten people are going to read just fine is troublesome for you. I'm sure if Prince decided to call himself 9RINC3 you'd think that was awesome.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
No, I'd think it would be pathetic if Prince'd call himself 9rinc3, though at least it'd make sense in a phonetic way. The symbol thing was cool because (as far as I know) it was a first, and it was quite an insane thing to do. Daring things are cool in my book. On the other hand, Prince had named another band The Family and I always felt such a name was ridiculous (Fdeluxe sounds much better IMO), so don't start telling me I'm a "worshipper" or such bullshit.
10 out of 10 people read 7ven fine, but fact is that even though everyone understands, it reads Sevenven, so they're The Original Sevenven and that's how they should be called when people talk about them, period.
Now, as said before, I'm just glad the dudes are releasing new music. I love and respect The Time/The Original Sevenven, they're astonishing musicians and both their group and solo efforts have brought me tons of joy, so this is by no means an attack against them.
I can love The Time and say their new name's spelling sucks, the same way I can love Prince and say the covers of most of his albums are ugly. A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

This reminds me of back in the day when the mainstreamers got their panties all in a bunch over urban culture's re-defining of the word "bad" to mean "good" under certain circumstances. For years, uppity, queen's english quakers shit their pants every time anyone used the word "bad" to mean good, citing that "these are the rules, therefore it must be this way" and for years urban culture just laughed at them and said "you ain't up on this; thats how we know you are corny" and kept it moving. To this day, in conversation, when someone says that was "bad" in a certain way - THE MAINSTREAM even knows it means that it is excellent. Artists bend and break rules. Its expected. Its part of being creative. Get over it...or not...it still changes nothing. Oh, when it comes to personal identifiers like names, rules of grammar take a backseat to social politeness. You pronounce people's names as THEY identify, not in the way that YOU choose. That is rude. This ain't "The Time" - its the Original 7ven. The Time had Prince's hand in their work. The Original 7ven don't need dude.

I'm very confused! My iPod call them the Original Sevenven but I know them to be the Original Seven. Who can I believe? When go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all up in the house but when log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
why do people care about the name? Does it really matter. If it bothers you that bad don't support them. I love that new cd and the music should be all that matters. I dont care what they call themselves as long as they are making music. If the name is that big a deal go back to Prince. The Original 7ven does need the negativity that comes from Prince fans. They don't really deserve that. Suppot them or not but please quit making a big deal about the name. Who cares really?

Well-said.The new album is kicking my ass right now,I really don't care what they call themselves
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Kicking your ass? I've waited an entire week to hear it and I was not let down. My son even likes it. I think too many people on this board have jaded musical palates IMO. I don't give a rat's ass what they call themselves, either. Good music is good music! Thanks! I will never buy anything from Best Buy online again! If I had gone down there in person I would have had it on Tuesday. But who cares--I'm grooving to the O7 and loving it.
