I would like to hear more about the DVD actually, since it's only available in one US chainstore, it's going to be a while probs. till I get to see it for myself.

It's a very well put together documentary. They cover all of the basics of their history as well as give great stories of how the band was formed. They even got everyone's point of view on what was going on at the time.

There are segments where they are all sitting around a table (looks like in a restaurant) talking about the past and the present, as well as individual interviews. They also cover the projects they did over the last 20 years as solo acts.

They tell a few stories dealing with Prince, Alexander O'Neal, Vanity 6 and members of the Revolution throughout the documentary that are funny as hell. A few of them state things in the documentary that Prince said to them personally that have never been discussed in public (that I can recall, anyway).

Bootleg footage of the 1999 tour is incorporated into the documentary. I'm still wondering if Prince is upset about that. There is footage show of The Time and Vanity 6's set, but not of Prince's set.

To me, they don't paint Prince as a bad person. Even when they are describing the firing of Jam and Lewis, they didn't take the low road. Even when they were discussing the name change, you could see that Morris was highly pissed during the taping, but Jerome turned it into a positive.

I suggest you grab it.

Exactly. It is a real documentary. There's no whining or wimpering...just telling it from their pov in a very entertaining way. Well worth the price.

Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

Thanks for clarifying the dvd doc content. AsI suspected TO7 have plenty to say uther than about the name change. Some really bitter/ spiteful orgers are ironically undermining their positivity about Condensation rather than educating those of us who havent seen the doc on it's content. wink

No problem. smile

I plan to rewatch it soon.

I know a few people here are not into the album and that is understandable. No artist or group will ever satisfy every fan. I'm sure the O7 knew that when they were recording the project. I'm sure they're happy with it either way.

It definitely is. $11.99 is not a bad price at all.

BTW, I checked Walmart this morning on the way to work and the sales guy said they sold out of the 15 or so copies they had last week. I think that's a great sign. Especially if they can sell a few hundred thousand copies in this horrible music economy.

Why? Why would they need to use the same recycled name? Why would that not be reason enough to use something new? Only a few fans know who Flyte Tyme is and it wouldn't make one bit of difference in using it and using something new. Flyte Tyme did not have JJ in it...so, they aren't Flyte Tyme, either. Flyte Tyme is used by Jimmy & Terry on their productiions. Its not that hard. Its not that far-fetched, either. At this point, they are only playing to their fan base. Its not like they are going after the tween-agers.

Well by that logic there was no real reason for the hurt feelings (from anyone: fans/or band members) over not being able to use the name The Time either. See you can't have it both ways.

And I know the name Flyte Tyme is the name of JJ & TL productions I just wanted someone to acknowledge the notion that business is business. P didn't give permission to use The Time for business reasons. The bandmembers didn't want to use name Flyte Time for business reasons.

thumbs up!

Someone did. Did you ever read the interview with Dr. funk? O7 band member (morris day??) himself said just that... "We love Prince. LOVE. Business is business."

You don't know if that's the only reason. If you do, PROVE IT.

It doesn't take a genius to understand the simple math of the situation. He had no hand in the work on the new record, so he wouldn't make any money from it.

That doesn't mean that it wasn't personal as well as for business reasons.

If you have proof otherwise, please bring it forth and school us.

Finally got the CD and DVD and just listening through for the first time.

Anyone else notice that the synth riff that opens "Faithful" is very similar to The SOS Band's "Weekend Girl" - which was also a Jam & Lewis production? lol lol lol

Keep listening. You'll hear a few other Jam and Lewis classic keyboard riffs.

They really put their foot in this one. Jesse's a beast in his spots. At first listen I clowned the hell out of this release but after a solid actual active listening session (got to love road trips) I finally heard the genius in this. However Strawberry Lake is still corny as all get out lol. But they took it to another level with this one and even modernized the sound without sounding old and out of place.

Finally got around to watching the DVD.I might add they talk about the infamous food fight between the time and Prince (And the "Revolution"). A fight that the Revolution started and the Time won. Although the Revolution would say they won.

And I agree that Morris seemed a wee pissed about not allowed to use the name Time. I think there was a lot of politicking going on in this video. Morris was offered an album deal through Prince after Purple Rain. But the catch was Prince would executive produce,"We've been down that road before and I know what that means. So, no thank you".-Morris

I don't dislike the song, iut just seems out of place for a Time song to me. Very poppish. But as someone else stated elsewhere, the second half with the classic Flyte Tyme chanting is old school Time heaven to me. I just wish they weren't chanting "lets go! to strawberry lake!" lol

The fellas have pulled it off: a lighthearted, entertaining album full of Minneapolis fun(k)! Yes it is poppy, but the tunes are well crafted and there is enough funk around to keep me satisfied.

The Time are back as The Original 7ven and Condensate is a solid and very enjoyable comeback album. Lovers of 80's funk and rnb: don't sleep on this!
