Keyboardist for Prince talks with us about his humble beginnings I thought the community might be interested in this video interview I conducted with Morris Hayes (Keyboardist and Music Director for Prince, and Keyboardist for The Time). I recently sat down with him to talk about his humble beginnings, as he shared a few defining moments in his career.

Thank you. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Very interesting profile of Morris Hayes. I enjoyed listening to him discuss his musical process and playing music. Thanks. "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

Morris is probably the one musician that has played the longest with Prince?

Very cool. Thanks for sharing! We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

It's not an interview, it's a friggin commercial for some useless software synthesizer product. I think it's bad form that you didn't fully disclose that fact in your post. "Interview", lol.

Every interview you read in every magazine is sponsored by someone. Also, softsynths are what most people are using to make music in the big leagues these days, so its probably not as "useless" as you think it is. A lot of the pianos you hear on today's records are rcorded via softsynth because you can get a better recording that way Mic placement when recording piano is very hit-or-miss.

Okay, so the product, is not necesarily useless. The world may in fact have need for yet another software piano product. Still the piece was nearly devoid of interview content and very heavy on product endorsement. This thread was nothing more than a bait and switch tactic to drum up pageloads for the advert.

Can't argue that. It definitely was a product endorsement. It did contain a little info on Morris, however. It is a little tidbit for the org, where people discuss Prince & Co.

It was clearly an "infomercial", but I'd rather watch that and learn a little bit about what he uses, than to hang out in other parts of the Org discussing shampoo & other things that don't make sense. Thanks for the feedback everyone! Morris is a very down to earth character, and we wanted to share this interview with you also, being as you're Prince fans. I am happy to know that you enjoyed the video. Yes, he talks about Ivory but it is educational and inspiring at the same time.

I generally associate "bait and switch" with selling and buying and I doubt that the average person on here would be looking for this product so that didn't/doesn't come to mind. Full disclosure for what? I enjoyed the interview (and Morris HAS always seemed down to earth and friendly so we like him! ) and I actually enjoyed learning about the Ivory II. Nothing wrong with knowing about something even if you know you'll never use it. Oh, and Morris has nice hands! Never trust anything spoken in the presence of an erection.

Thanks for posting this. Morris is one of the nicest people on the planet. He was that way in college and is still just a wonderful person. Loved the interview and loved seeing those old photos. Lol the 80's!!!

Morris is far and away Prince's MVP. Has been for a couple of decades at least. I would be intereste in a solo project from him. It would be far more interesting than some of the other solo things that have come from Prince employees.
