It's funny because Prince had "Movie Star" laying around at the time, which seems like it would have been a strong song for the band. Prince has said that he wrote it for The Time, but I guess they never recorded a version.

Regardless to how many folks feel that Pandemonium was not a great release.....It went GOLD (500,000) on the strength of FANS that LOVE The Time.......I was very GLAD that they came back with a new record.......Awesome considering it came after ICC 1984. I thought it had some great moments and some weak moments but the STRONG moments out way the WEAK moments....These kats play hard and work HARDER.....I tip my hat to these hard working MUSICIANS we call The Time/Original 7ven.........

Love the album. Some songs haven't lasted the test of time but I loved it when it came out and still enjoy it. Kinda briefly talked about this cd in the DVD

Although i do like Pandemonium i think i enjoy Condensate more. Pandemonium hasn't dated all that well and seem kinda half baked. some of the songs are not so good versions of Prince songs, Databank is just horrible.

Pandemonium is their best selling album and will continue to be from the looks of things right now. IT is better than Condensate. IN fact, all of their albums are better than COndensate.
THe tour should be great though:-D

Of course this is just your opinion. Naturally it would be their biggest selling album due to the fact that both Prince and The Time having a bigger fanbase in 1990 than in 1983.

Pandemonium is proof of what a good album Condensate is cause I listened to it after Condensate and pulled all but three songs off my itunes. It's just a really weak album. imho... Space for sale...

I listened to all the Time albums in a row after I got Condensate and I think I like Pandemonium the most.
Knowing that it's Prince playing all the instruments on the first two albums even though Morris is calling out for Terry, Jesse, Jellybean, etc., kills a little of the appeal for me.

'Pandemonium' is not consistent. It doesn't hold together. There are a few great tunes but also several tracks that sound like throwaways ("Data Bank","My Summertime Thang",etc)."Chocolate" would have worked in 1982 but on Pandemonium,it sounds horribly dated. With the exception of "Jerkout",the Prince songs aren't very memorable. The album feels scattered and messy.
'Condensate' is a strong, focused album that holds together from the first track to the last.It feels like a complete album as opposed to a bunch of tunes thrown together.

I still love the Pandemonium album, SA. Chocolate doesn't sound any more dated than Jerk Out, and when shit is THAT funky, it doesn't even matter. It provides a funk base for the album, too. And, I like the songs that you mentioned as throwaways (Data Bank and My Summertime Thang - which was much better here than what was included in The Latest Fashion).
The best tracks on the album, to me, are:
Pandemonium Jerk Out Chocolate It's Your World Sometimes I Get Lonely Data Bank My Summertime Thang Blondie Donald Trump (Black Version)
But, I guess we all have our different tastes! If they actually had their shit together back then (and Prince didn't blindside them with the terrible movie that was Graffiti Bridge), this album could've really gone somewhere. It was much more "accessible" than GB.

Maybe Jesse says that these days, but I'm pretty sure that wasn't the case. An unreleased Jesse song which appears to have been recorded in the late 80's/early 90's surfaced recently, entitled "Crazy Love", apparently from an album Jesse had recorded called "Real Life Mode". And it seems to be NJS inspired, so we can surmise that the rest of the album was too.

What are you talking about?! Pandemonium is quite consistent! Besides it funks harder and had more edge than "Condensate". [Edited 10/31/11 9:26am]

'Pandemonium' falls apart after "Blondie",with a series of songs that are mediocre."It's Your World" is great, though.
'Condensate' is a stronger set of songs, with only one truly weak song ("Hey Yo").

"Pandemonium" is not a masterpiece, that's for sure, but it doesn't fall apart! "Data Bank" is a weak track, not because of the song itself, but the overproduction.
"Condensate" falls apart with every horrible chorus thrown in to make this thing more mainstream compatible. The album is either full of rehash or unoriginal efforts of sounding somewhat contemporary.

We'll have to agree to disagree the only songs on 'Pandemonium' that I like are "Jerkout","It's Your World" and the title track.

There is not that much of a difference between songs 1 and 9 on my list, I like them all so much. If you had said "Data Bank" was your favorite then we'd have a problem.

Jesse had produced some group in the late 1980's. I think they were called Kool School, or something like that. I think they were New Jack, but maybe Jesse didn't want that sound on his own records. Perhaps A&M had him to record this tune, and Jesse decided to nix it. Labels do make acts record songs time to time. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Ditto. For me, Skillet and Blondie, oh my! Whenever I want to listen to The Time, this is the first album I pull out. It is SOOOO much fun, has so much energy, and the songs are really, really good.
