Most of the fan reviews have been very positive. Fans who wanted a duplicate of the first album don't like it. I think it's a great album and both FDdeluxe and the Original 7ven have more than proved they are more than just puppets of the purple one.

yep.

I don't like because I don't like it. My view has nothing to do with their first album or Prince. I'm sure they are talented musicians but the CD very bland and forgettable and I could barely get through the second listen. Glad you enjoy it though and I wish them well.

Agreed....there's just something "off" about the album. A perfect example of this is Sanctified. The way the two of them sing their vocals, it's cringeworthy. Especially Susannah's "wicked". OMG!!! I think a better producer would have caught the poser vocals cause the song is a killer song and the instruments rock but it's the way they sing the song (uhhh, drunk aunt and poser uncle--come on down), it makes me wish Prince had recorded the vocals and forced St. Paul to mimmick him like the first album. Susannah is awesome as a background singer but as the lead---it reminds me of an American Idol contestant that hasn't found their voice yet, it just doesn't sound right IMHO.

That's my take on it all. I wanna like the album cause there's some nicely written tunes but the vocals just make it hard for me.

Space for sale...

I'm glad to hear that they are going to be doing some videos, they asked on their Facebook page which tracks they should do and I voted for Lover and Over the Canyon. Lover could be a hit if they find a way to get it heard.

Prince may be the purple Yoda, but Wendy & Lisa and Eric Leeds also sit on the Jedi Council.

My copy arrived today and I've just had my first listen. It was was far better than I expected.

I need a few more listens to really judge but my first impressions were that it sounded like the album I hoped White flags would sound like. An album that stylistically I was very disappoint with.

we waited all these years and they released the same time as The Time...kind of took the shine off it don't you think confused.....Album verdict: tried to hard to replicate a sound which was a one off to begin with.....keep it simple and catchy. im not pissing on anyone's parade but it just leaves me a little unfulfilled...sorry guys just saying neutral

Still listening to this daily, everyday I have a new favorite track, right now it's The Vigil. I have had this one and Condensate on repeat for weeks now, and still loving both smile

Listened to it about 5 or 6 times now, really like it. It suffers the opposite as Condensate, where i'd gladly lose 2 tracks off that if think Gaslight is a little short.

cool

I think it leaves you wanting more, which is always a good thing! I much prefer 10-12 tracks to 14=16+, things start to unravel a little most times with longer CDs, Gaslight is a great set for me, no tracks outstay their welcome - hope they do some more remix EPs too smile

I agree. The majority of albums are best around the 40 - 45 min Mark.

On repeated listens this is a sucess for me.

Highlights

Drummers and Healers
The vigil
Leeds line

thumbs up! absolutely lovin it!

I think they made a great sounding album, I am really enjoying it.

Hearing St Paul & Susanah's voices with Eric's horn is like meeting

up with old friends you haven't seen in 20 years.

I think it's amazing! I love all the horns, strings and real musical talent! The duets with St.Paul and Susannah are especially touching. The Melvoin family are damn talented IMO! Eric and co are amazing too.

This is REAL music....P should listen and learn...this is the kind of stuff I'd like to hear him do again....I know he can as he did in 85/86....so no good reason why he can't now!! Go on P!

YES YES YES! Musically, this album has a depth which reminds me of the music P used to make when he was hanging with these folks. I think the Melvoins, Lisa, Eric etc. were all such a big influence on the Prince sound of that time, and this album is a testament to that.

Not that it sounds retro, it's the musicianship. You can hear Eric's horn arrangements a mile off! It's his signature sound!

^ It's beautiful, it's on repeat on my CD player at the moment. I love all the complex melodies and harmonies, eg. Listen to the lovely piano ending on The Vigil...just beautiful, this is REAL music IMO.

After having this for a few weeks now and really digesting its ended up being one of my favourite albums of the past few years.

The star of the show is Eric.
