Morris Day, Jesse Johnson, Jimmy Jam, Terry Lewis, Garry "Jellybean" Johnson, Jerome Benton and Monte Moir revitalize the sound of Minneapolis Funk! In their first new album together in 21 years, Condensate features 14 brand new but instantly familiar Minneapolis funk songs by the band formerly known as The Time. From their origins in the 80s as Prince's first pet project led by the cocky protégé Day, this playful, brash group delivered groundbreaking funk-rock dance grooves.
Now, for the first time since the 90s, the original members of The Time have reunited as The Original 7ven to deliver an inventive and unapologetically funky album! Condensate has all the old magic and swagger of earlier years and asserts funk-tastic confidence perfectly suited for today's audience. Endlessly entertaining, this new collection of 14 grooves puts the "fun" back in funk!
The album name Condensate is taken from Morris Day's tongue-in-cheek comment, "I don't sweat, I condensate."

You know what? I'm gonna lower all of my expectations on this one. I'm preparing for the worst but hoping for the best. "#Trending" almost sounds a little TOO much like some of this current crap R&B, but that's from only that 30-second snippet. It could sound totally different in the context of the full song.
BUT, I know I've been let down like this before, so we'll see just how "funky" these funk jams will be. But like you, I really am just glad this shit is FINALLY coming out.
Who else thinks this is it for them; that they're completely done for good after this? |

16 songs so it will be short songs. None of those CLASSIC jams they made the Time. To me that was their best when they had those extended jams. I hope there is some of that. All 3 to 4 minute songs will be disappointing to me |

Would like to see production and writing credits for this. Hope Monte and Jesse got to write a few songs. Are there audio clips available yet? |

Man, can anyone just focus on the new music that people claim they've been waiting so many years for?! Sheeesh! "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

I talked to Jellybean after the Fdeluxe concert in Oakland and asked him about "See Thru". He said it is not going to be on the album and he doesnt understand why. He was pissed because they played it live in Vegas and then they aren't going to put it on the album . He blames Terry Lewis and told me to ask Terry why it isnt on the album. I guess Terry Lewis is calling all the shots. I also asked him if he produced any of the tracks on the new album. His response was "No, are you kidding? With those other guys in the group." "See Thru" was such a jam too! Funk rock at its best |

SURELY you are not trying to imply that Jam & Lewis have never made any quality songs? Please don't embarrass yourself in that way just for the sake of trying to be a contrarian. |

jimmy jam and terry lewis are without a doubt amongst the most talented and successful song writing / production teams in the history of soul music. their music also heavily defined the minneapolis sound and influenced countless contemporaries.
100% on point. holding something together that is falling apart |

I hate to break it to you,but guess what? Prince didn't invent music. He's not the only musician on the planet who has talent. There is life after Prince.Stop sippin' the purple Kool-Aid and come back to reality You mentioned "good quality music" but these days,Prince doesn't always come up with music that fits that description. |

Yes but also this is the first thing they've done as a group without the hand of Prince so if it's shit, people will be saying 'they got no talent without Prince', we'll have to wait and see. Morris's solo career didn't exactly set the world alight.
I hope it's great.

Every guy in this band has talent....with or without Prince.Their talent has never been in question. As for Morris' solo career, his first two solo albums did well and of course,Jam and Lewis are one of the most successful production duos of all time. These guys have talent and they have had plenty of success without Prince. |

I'm not saying they don't have talent, they killed it live, but this is the first band album without Prince's hand. that's all i'm saying. I really hope it's good. after all from the snippets people are still dissing it. She Believed in Fairytales and Princes, He Believed the voices coming from his stereo

What do you expect of an album with a nonsense title like "Condensate" - from a group called The Original Sevenven? We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves. |

Morris Day: "I don't sweat, I condensate" I'm not saying it's a great title, but that's where it comes from.
I like "The Band Formerly Known As The Time" sub-title - that's funny. |

As I said in another thread, why not just call it "Ignant" and be done with it? We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves. |

But Jimmy and Terry are part of the Original 7ven and therefore that makes what they bring to the table relevant. Jesse will bring his producer's hat to the table as well. You don't stop being who you are when you are part of a team - you bring your skill sets to the table. All of them are capable of writing songs and all of them have done so. They have all also matured over the years, so why in the world would they not be able to bring their polished skills and acquired knowledge and apply those things to making the record? This isn't 1983 and time isn't frozen. A lot has changed since they first began.
I hope this record will reflect that change. |
