Mixé à (Mixed at) Paisley Park Studios: Peter & The Electro Kitsch Band

HELP - What does it exactly mean when an album is mixed at Paisley Park Studios, technical wise, musical wise?

I have this album from French Funk Artist extraordinary PETER & THE ELECTRO KITSCH BAND, PETE Á L'INTER, it has that magic purple vibe all over, sounds exactly like an early 90's Prince production. I could swear he layed his hands on it since it has been mixed at Paisley Park ......

Has anyone more information on this project?

Mixed usually means that the separate tracks that make a song are put together, using different volumes, eq and effects. To do that u need a mixingboard. So Peter and the kitch band probably used the mixingboard and other equipment in Paisley Park and maybe also PP's inhouse engineer. That does not mean Prince worked on the tracks. PP was also a commercial studio, so everybody that could pay for some studiotime could rent it.

Paisley Park is was it is ... a recording studio.

Hence, a lot of cds are recorded and mixed over there.

Oh, I see, thank's a lot Spooky for that value information. Appreciated!

I wished I could give you a listen to the whole album, maybe you would understand my thoughts then. The P influence is indeed overwhelming, same vocal arrangements, rhythm & beats, instrumentation ..... Seems to me like that purple vibe came out of the PP mixingboards automatically these days in 1991.

That makes me wonder if there ever was another album mixed at PP with such a full Minneapolis sound, except Prines own ... Would he really tolerate copy cats at his own studio? eek

This album (which was a complete commercial failure) is indeed AMAZING, I'm really surprised that I ain't the only one remembering it.

It was indeed mixed at PP (by Tom Garneau IIRC???) and Prince had absolutely nothing to do with it (everything had been recorded and put together in Paris), it's just that Peter was a HUGE Prince fan and that, as most young musicians, he tried to emulate the artist who influenced him the most. I suppose the french label wouldn't pay the expensive cost of recording at PP, but could afford a (shorter and cheaper) mixing session. Let's also remember that at this time, Paisley Park was THE place to be for recording musicians.

Back in 1991, this album was (and remains) a total revolution, an absolute UFO among the French musical scene, the funkiest record EVER released by a french artist, and on top of it, most of the lyrics were hilarious!

Get it if you can (http://www.discogs.com/Pe...se/1095121), any Prince/MPLS Sound fan would love it!

Here's my fave from the album, funky as hell: http://www.youtube.com/wa...u6729oVaGI

This one was one of the weakest tracks of the album musically speaking, but it had very funny lyrics: http://www.youtube.com/wa...ZYrmwxI0rU

Peter Kitsch released a few other things later, but he had learned from the bombing of his experimental album, and mostly released commercial crap ever since in order to survive, though his 1996 single ABC pour casser was really cool, once again with very cool lyrics: http://www.youtube.com/wa...jXjG1sNvyQ.

Peter can be found on Facebook, Myspace and probably Twitter too.

Merci beaucoup!!!! Finally I got the answer to all my questions. I was wondering since I bought this album back in 1992 or so if there's any kind of P input, cause I couldnt believe how an artist can have this purple touch allover without being blessed by his royalty himself ... I followed Peter in the next couple of years, too, but was similar dissapointed by his commercial output, which forced me to believe P had sth. to do with his debut. Acctually, we have Juan Rozoff and a few other Funkers here in France who have captured that magic MPLS sound ... Check out if you can!
