LOL
Get the fuck outta here with that shit!
You don't need to work in music to formulate an opinion on a damn song.
I understand the concept of a single, but look at The Time's track record. Their first single choices have been certified classics up until now. (Ice Cream Castles is debatable, but its still a good song imo).
+This track is very wack, and while I believe there will be at least a couple of jams on the album, I have heard enough to expect the worst.
You're so glam, every time I see you I wanna slam!

now we know who bought the last ticket to losersville...
you've worked in music for a long time.... what? cleaning the toilets as WEA. holding something together that is falling apart

Check your memory. The Black Album was withheld from release in December, 1987. Early in 1988 bootleg copies were reviewed in many major publications such as Rolling Stone and even my local newpaper. These reviews sent MANY Prince fans scrambling to find the album. What many of us discovered was that Black Album was not the only Prince bootleg and outtake bootlegs such as Chocolate Box became well known by Prince fans. Data Bank was on Chocolate Box (and MANY other boots). By 1990 when Pandemonium (and Grafitti Bridge) came out, most fans had indeed heard much of the music from outtakes, including Data Bank.
I live in Kentucky. If I heard it, and if ever other Prince fan I ever met heard it in those years, then, it was well known by Prince fans.
BTW, by 1990, only those of us that were DEEP into Prince were buying/listening to Prince and The Time anyway, so yeah, most of us knew about the outtakes.
Don't hate your neighbors. Hate the media that tells you to hate your neighbors.

perfect! | |

That is so untrue. I wasn't 'deep' into him like the collectors & didn't know anything about boots/outtakes until finding a.m.p. in like '94 or whenever it was. But I bought EVERY released album, as did a lot of people who weren't into the collecting rarities stuff (still true to this day for many!).

Yeah......OK!!!!! IF I DID clean toilets @ WEA, it's cuz Yo' ass STILL can't PEE STRAIGHT!!!!! I worked in the biz 4 a long time. And now i haven't worked in the biz 4 a long time. ....and THAT is EXACTLY my point!!!!!!! "Ice Cream Castles" wasn't the best choice of a 1st single (agreed) that's been a pattern in tha biz 4 a looooooong time (xcept Rap) I'm just sayin that w/ALL that talent (and look @ their INDIVIDUAL track record), there MUST be BETTER!!!! Hell-I'm just glad they found a way around the "biz-ness" 2 'Release It"!!!! Yessssssss!!!!!!!

I respect your opinion and everybody elses. And the amount of happy faces and all caps words in your posts is always a dead giveaway that you did in fact work in the music industry for a long long time time. Maybe too long.

check yourself fool. so what if you worked in the music industry. so do i - but i'm successful enough to not have to wear it like a shiny badge. something tells me you gave not or are ever likely to be on a a six figure salary... so i would say you are closer to the toilet cleaners than the andre harrells, mo ostins, russell simmons or neil bogarts of this world.
i genuinely pity you. resigned to adding a few lines of emoticons to your pathetic diction in vain hope they will strengthen the point you are trying to get across.
no wonder the united states economy is in such a mess with people like you around. the sacrifices previous generations made must wonder why they bothered. holding something together that is falling apart

Actually rebranding both "The Time" and "The Family" make sense, from an internet-drives-media perspective.
It's like Google has become the arbiter of trademarks. Not you-know-who. Both names were too generic to pass a quick Google test. You had to know a lot about their history and band member names to guarantee finding them.
Now, both groups have a unique and uniquely spelled name... instant findability.

OH...so now, both projects are going to sell more with the new names? As much as I love the Time, and The Family, these projects combined won't sell over 500,000, unless The Time have some groundbreaking song that somehow gets played in a big hit movie. Most of the fans from back then don't even care anymore. And the ones that do, will be confused by "FDeluxe." At least the Time had the sense to put "Band Formerly Known As The Time" on the cover...but it still won't generate sales in these horrible times for the industry.
When I was 16, I remember 40 year olds still listening to music made by younger acts. The younger acts were still making meaningful music. The oldies stations played new Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, Stevie Wonder, Elton John, etc. Now the oldies stations pick 3-6 songs from an artist's back catalog, and play them over and over. With Prince it has become: Doves, Raspberry, LG Crazy, 1999, LRC, and Kiss. On the R&B "Grown Folks" stations, it is I Wanna Be Your Lover, Adore, Do Me, Baby, Kiss, Doves, and maybe one or two others.
I hate this. It is people our age playing a major role in ruining radio, and thinking that all the damn stations have to have the same format. Prince has at least 30 songs that should be in rotation on both Pop and R&B oldies stations, but Oldies stations stink. I remember the oldies stations in the past playing tons of old Beatles and Stones songs, and not just Top Ten hits.
You might hear the Time's new song Trendin' on the radio for a minute, but even though I think the Family's new stuff is great, I doubt it will get played at all. I mean, their first album didn't even get much play. "Screams of Passion" should've been huge, but it only had minor impact.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I will not be so quick to write-off that they will not sell well. #trending is a catchy-ass cheesy song that would fit perfectly on today's pop radio. Jimmy and Terry are renown hit makers. So you never know.
I agree with you on F-deluxe not selling. I have not heard anything that sounds anywhere near great from them so far. It's something strictly for the hardcore Prince fans for old times sake. But The OG7 I will withhold judgement until I hear the whole thing.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I think FDeluxe may do well. They performed to a packed house and I feel they will gain fans as well as reunite the old fans once they start touring.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Ok.....without name calling & accusations, I wish both the OG 7ven & FDeluxe the best!!! And I'm so glad they found a way around the "business & BS" and releasing the music!!!!! I will support both projects, and in doing so hope they both kick ass musically!!!!!

No one asked me, but I think the name could do with a little simplification. I like the name and logo, but it's too much. I think a simple og7 rings better.

yall all know that neither of them albums gonna sell well no matter how good u think they are and the family only released one cd to the world they might as well be new.st paul voice is tipping the boat of horrible. of those 2 cds if either sell it will be the time.if i had 2 choice between the family singing the songs on there 1st cd or prince id take the prince versions anyday. i wish them both well and hope they conquer whatever it is they set out 2 do.now its time for rhianna, ciara and monica to put out another destinys child cd

I should have asked Jellybean about the album @ the Family show. Dammit.
Anyway, hope they dont try and please young people on this one and I have faith on this record. Jimmy & Terry did a good job with Chaka and Deborah Cox..I think they know their audience wants a mature funky upbeat sound their real fans love. Straight Jacket Funk Affair
Album plays and love for vinyl records.

Yes you should've pp4...com'on now. Yes I also have faith in the new album. As you said Jimmy & Terry did a great job with Chaka's album. I still play that often. Haven't heard Deborah's album. Fantasy is reality in the world today. But I'll keep hangin in there, that is the only way.

Yes this is too bad, TRENDING, the single, has totally disappeared from Amazon, no new relase-date yet. But the album should be out on Oct. 18, hopefully, if not postboned ....
