The C-O-O-L thing is are they are making new music as a band with the original members which is great.

In a perfect world they and FDeluxe could tour on a triple bill with Prince but.... oh well.

Of course they did. Remember "Data Bank"? That was a song about those little digital address books that were briefly popular back in the pre-cellphone era. It was a bit of a radio hit for them off "Pandemonium". So a song about phone technology is in keeping with the band's history. Even still "trending" is being used in the song as just another way of saying "I'm Blowin' Up", "I'm doing well", etc. Something for the old, something for the new.

Radio Hit? Data Bank? Not in any market I traveled in. Other than "Jerkout," ...never heard anything on the radio other than maybe hearing "Chocolate," and "Shake" a few times. Not to mention that "Data Bank" was nowhere near as funky as Prince's version.

Either you listen to black radio or you don't. "Data Bank" got airplay when it came out. People were into it. "Sometimes I Get Lonely" was also a radio hit. As to your comment about Prince's "Data Bank" demo, I haven't compared the two in years so my memory of it is a bit unclear, but I think you'd have to consider that 7 years passed and trends changed by the point the band made their version. They had a responsibilty to deliver a radio ready project to WB. In all likelyhood they polished Data Bank toward that end and ultimately they were successful because it was played on radio.

I love these guys, and good for them. wink

I just didn't expect for some OG's in suits to come out with a song titled Trendin'. I thought that would be for the college set. Not what I was anticipating, but I will sit tight, hang on in for the rest that's coming. The sound is not what I thought they'd be putting out either. I love the old school, vintage, classic Time sound. Hope there is some of that coming. I'll be optimistic in the meantime. I'm going to support it, see what comes of it.

the time is getting treated the same way prince do they hype and cant wait til he release something new soon as he does and it doesnt sound like purple rain they bitch moan and yell. u cant expect these 7 guys 2 give u the time sound when they never created that sound prince did u all know prince wrote and played all those songs now we gotta listen 2 what the time sounds like without prince.

None of what you have written applies to me. Loud and wrong. I have an appreciation for P's music back to the days of For You. I never listen to Purple Rain outside of The Beautiful Ones. If Prince never sang Purple Rain in concert again, it wouldn't matter to me. As a matter of fact I was looking for something that sounded close to 1999, Dirty Mind, Controversy periods when Purple Rain came out. You will never see me going off on here about Purple Rain. Again, wrong. For the record, I do love P's new material, Sticky Like Glue, Laydown, Future Soul Song.

Bitch, moan and yell? Did I type in all caps? No, so take it down a notch. A few notches.

As far as The Time goes, I'm an OG The Time fan, had it on wax, bumped Get It Up, was at the show. Of course it's Prince all over it, hence "Jamie Starr". I do know they will sound different without P, I was not expecting a song about Trendin'. Did u not read where I said I will support it? I would do that strictly on gp because I like this band, group of guys, and will support their efforts. You are going off for no reason. Right now I will lay in the cut and see what's next.

I'm not gonna say Data Bank was never played on the radio, but certainly, it didn't get much play, and it was NEVER a hit. In fact, due to the fact that most Prince fans had already heard a superior version in Prince's outtake, the fans didn't even like it much.

The only songs from Pandemonium to get any major airplay were Jerk Out & Chocolate. That's all the "masses" heard...

New band name is AWFUL. I'm kind of digging the song, although if I have no issue about it, it's the production. It sounds like there was a good song in there but they tried to hard to make it sound "modern". Still cool and funky.

I did listen to "black radio." I heard at least 10 Time songs through the years. Never Data Bank. Black Radio is a joke these days. On the "Grown Folks" stations that I can tolerate..Damn near every single song that had ANYTHING to do with New Edition is still played over and over. With Prince, I hear Adore, Do Me Baby, and a couple of the huge hits, but I never hear the Time anymore. How Bobby Brown, Ralph Tresvant, Johnny Gill, and those clowns gets so much airplay is beyond me. Back in the Day, I would've fell out if I heard Data Bank. Still, Donald Trump Black Version is much stronger. Just to be sure, I asked a few today if they ever heard Data Bank on the radio, and I even got laughed at once. I heard Glam Slam, I Wish U Heaven, New Power Generation and even Damn U...but no Data Bank. Must have just been your local station. Pandemonium and Skillet would've been better choices.

Get over it.

30 seconds is enough to get a general idea of a track like this. Unless it is an extended groove, I wouldn't expect too many variations from the main theme, but the song is only 4:08 long so it is pretty safe to make that assumption.

I can't believe The Time made a fucking song about twitter. Garbage.

Moving on to another poster's point, Time fans and Prince fans are not the same groups and even still Prince's version of DATA BANK wasn't a widely circulating demo back in 1990 or before. Generally, we all claim to love the demos more than final version of nearly every track that gets bootlegged so that's just kind of the nature of Prince-GEEK-dom.

Prince's version of Data Bank was widely circulating in 1990. I had it in 1988 and by then it had been on several vinyl bootlegs for a year or two.

Most fans today have bootlegs, thanks to mp3's. Back then they were costly and hard to find. There is no way most of Prince's fanbase had heard it. Only those of us that were DEEP into Prince would have known about it.

Again, I just want to emphasize that though the clip sounds NOTHING like The Time, it is extremely catchy. Maybe vomit inducing too much. I mean it would sound perfect back to back with Rebecca Black's "Friday". Shit, this would have been perfect for her follow up single.
