The Family on CD (1985)

All the recent posts on fDeluxe and seeing them live in Oakland had me wishing I had a clean and crispy soundin cd of the first album. I made mp3's from the crackly LP and ran it through SoundSoap, but result sound a little too digitized to me.

I saw a used copy on Amazon a few days ago for a good price and bought it. It just arrived and I'm a little surprised that it says "made in Germany" on the back. I thought cd's were only from Japan on this album. Am I wrong?

The printing on the paper inserts seem a little "pixelated" to me, but the direct printing on the disc seems genuine.

How can I be certain this isn't counterfeit?

I remember seeing a post here a long time ago about things to look for, but the search feature gives no results.

Here's HouseQuake's/MoQuake's list:

The Family CD - German Pressing
Brought to our attention early 2009 by Yannick
Faults/flaws -
Poor print quality on the covers/inserts.
CD missing the Paisley Park logo.
Different/additional text on the matrix ring.
Mis-spelled Clare Fischer as "Claire".
2 second gap between each track.

SUSPECTED FAKES
These are "new" fakes that have been brought to our attention. They are as yet not confirmed as such,

however there is enough suspicion for us to bring these to our members' attention.

This is being discussed on another forum : Another counterfeit CD? J... SH Forums
The wide inner mirror band is unlike confirmed legitimate copies and is similar to that seen on other fake cds,

and the same seller has sold a number of copies (5+) over a period of a 3 months.

I think I had my eye on this same one but didn't buy. I even put it in my shopping cart then took it out. Then it was gone. I was very suspicious since genuine copies of this CD run high (he was selling for $23 or $29). I wonder sometimes if the seller even knows if they are real or fake.

Anyway, hope the CD sounds good. You didn't notice any gaps between tracks, especially High Fashion--Mutiny?

I sure wish I had a good Mp3 copy of this cd. There is a Japanese edition of the CD on ebay for $274!!! Wow, way out of my price-range.

Thanks for the replies. I got home late lastnight and everybody was asleep in the house so I couldn't play it yet. Saw the package on the counter and could only look at it.

Looks just like the suspected fake in the picture. Clare is mis-spelled and missing Paisley Park logo.

What struck me first was that the back insert says made in Germany and has some German language on it, but in the upper right it says "France: WE 833" under the catalog number.

No computers were on and i was searching this forum for info on my phone. Google's top result was why Jews faked their family tree.

Anyhow listened this morning in the car and fake or not, it sounds good on the Bose audio system. Better than my crackly vinyl. The gaps are there, especially noticed between High Fashion & Mutiny. Seems like the gap is even in the wrong spot. High Fashion stops, there's a gap, and you hear almost 1 second of the strings from the end of High Fashion, then Mutiny begins.

Why don't Warner brothers just re-release the damn thing?
